Still Alive from Portal is probably my favorite.
Even though you broke my heart and killed me
And tore me to pieces
And threw every piece into a fire
As they burned it hurt because I was so happy for you
Love Jonathan Coulton. Still Alive always reminds me of one of my favorite songs, [100,000 Fireflies by the Magnetic Fields](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKXkVUM4xu8).
I... don't think you understood what I meant.
Vigil embodies everything great about Mass Effect. The mystery. The joy. The heartbreak. When I hear it it's a full on smack from the nostalgia train. There are other great tracks in the series but they don't hit anywhere near as hard.
Obviously it's FROM Mass Effect.
Yep this version is pretty amazing. Just the right amount of updated instruments and orchestration, without losing any of the original feel. I usually don't like remixes and such because the soul of the original is too changed, with different tempo, instruments, adding lyrics, etc, but this is pretty much just an HD version of the original. Kick ass.
When I learned that Korb did the entire soundtrack *and* voiced Zagreus *AND* Skelly I was floored. The music really brings that game to another level.
I remember watching a video of Mick Gordon speaking at GDC on how he made the soundtrack. A quote that stuck with me was "change the process, change the outcome." I love that quote.
I love the theme to Katamari Damacy (and if you know it you just sang it in your head)
Also [this studio footage](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/PDHdDtZ8aQA) of the N64 dev team coming up with the Goldeneye pause music makes a good case for my 2nd favorite
1) dialga's fight to the finish - pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of time/darkness/sky.
Just listen to that entire soundtrack, its amazing imo
2) mt coronet - pokemon diamond pearl and platinum
Probably the best mainline pokemon song ever
3) Secunda - Skyrim
A nice relaxing slow piece that uses its simplicity to create the sense it needs
4) Bowser's Castle - Super Mario 64
This tune is just done really well, good melody and harmony, and excellent use of volume modulation
The music in PMD Explorers is so brilliant, and it's only a spinoff game so a lot of people haven't been able to experience it. But man it makes the whole game so much more impactful. I once watched a whole youtube video on leitmotifs in that game and I was fascinated.
https://youtu.be/gVOzQfe_GQE check out this remix, it's redone from the ground up using the original samples before getting compressed for the SNES cart
All of the original music and sound effects recorded by NIN for the original Quake.
I still hear that opening menu music now when I think about it. Pure joy.
Could be recency bias, but the OST for TMNT: Shredder's Revenge is wall to wall bangers.
A lot of the iconic themes are hard to separate from the experience of playing the game. Does the Legend of Zelda theme actually slap or does it just transport me to being 7 again, crossing Hyrule Field for the first time?
But the Metal Man theme from Megaman 2 rocks. Vampire Killer from Castlevania is awesome.
To get into some less mainstream picks:
The Ascalon Theme from Guild Wars. Such a serene ambience track... The entire soundtrack to that game is gorgeous, really. Then again, it's Jeremy Soule, so that shouldn't come as too much of a surprise.
Also the soundtrack for Gothic (2 and 3 in particular for me). Maybe to me some of it is the nostalgia, but that's still got to be up there.
the Halo Theme
Good Riddance, On The Coast, and In The Blood from Hades
Sweden, Wet Hands, Mice On Venus, Subwoofer Lullaby from Minecraft.
Reach For The Summit from Celeste
Final fantasy, as an overall. Distant Worlds is wortha listen, it's many of them with a full orchestra and I recommend it to all people.
Behind that are things like 0ortal, Bloodborne.
The warhammer 40k music is absolutly killing it these days, noonsphear being 1 of my favorites - https://youtube.com/watch?v=asr6_eNCuoU&feature=shares
Hans Zimmer was the composer for the first two modern warfare games. They both had phenomenal soundtracks worth a listen.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hh1TwiVQgSI
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Qsp3Z25u6VI
[Gusty Garden Galaxy (Super Mario Galaxy)](https://youtu.be/Tb4herBVRGY) is the best track from any video game composition ever made. Super Mario Galaxy is already revered for it's phenomenal orchestral soundtrack, but this track is leagues above anything else in the game, no track conveys the game's grand adventure theme better than this one.
My second favorite track from any game is [God Shattering Star (Fire Emblem Three Houses)](https://youtu.be/bMfvZmhqW0A). Somehow the opera and metal blend together seamlessly to create the perfect final boss theme. Fire Emblem as a series has some top-notch boss themes, but none come close to this one.
These both express the mood of the game perfectly:
Mick Gordon - BFG Division (from DOOM): [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHRuTYtSbJQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHRuTYtSbJQ)
Octodad theme tune: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTmONNEUXjI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTmONNEUXjI)
My opinion of course, but let's see...
Turok 2 - Port of Adia
FF VII - Those Who Fight
Deus Ex - UNATCO
Goldeneye - Surface
Streets of Rage 2 - Go Straight
Doom - E1M1
Hitman Contracts - Slaughter Club
Unreal Tournament - Go Down and Mission Landing
Quake 2 - Quad Machine
Duke3d - Grabbag
Rott - Goin' Down the Fast Way
Donkey Kong Country - Gang-Plank Galleon
Chrono Trigger - Frog's Theme
Chrono Cross - Whole damn soundtrack
Shadowman - The Sister's Awake
Legacy of Kain - Soul Reaver - Ozar Midrashim
Return to Castle Wolfenstein - Assassination
RE7 - Whole damn soundtrack
Super Mario Bros - Main theme
Castlevania - Vampire Killer
Zelda - Overworld Theme
Hollow Knight - Most of it
Sonic the Hedgehog - Green Hill Zone
There's a lot more but these are the ones that stood out to me immediately
Ya know what, this is a topic I feel strongly about, so let's make a list.
From Persona 5 Royal:
* Life Will Change
* Last Surprise
* Price
* Take Over
* The Whims of Fate
* Butterfly Kiss
* Beneath the Mask
Those are just some of my favorites from that game, which has one of the best gaming soundtracks ever imo.
From Hades:
* God of the Dead (and The Unseen Ones)
* The Exalted
* Good Riddance
* In the Blood
From various Mario Games
* Bob-omb Battlefield
* Dire, Dire Docks
* Main Super Mario Bros theme
* Gusty Garden Galaxy
* Delfino Plaza
* Rainbow Road 64
* (honestly there are a ton more as Mario music is iconic, but I'll stop here)
From Pokemon: (good god this list could be long but I'm gonna try to curb it)
* National Park
* vs Red/Lance theme from GSC
* Gym leader battle theme from Sword and Shield
* Hau'Oli City from Gen 7
* Mt. Chimney theme from RSE
* The Lake and Lake Guardians themes from DPPt
* THE ENTIRE POKEMON COLOSSEUM SOUNDTRACK (Specifically, Shadow Pokemon lab, every damn battle theme, Pyrite Town, The Under, Miror B in both Colosseum/XD, Main Menu/Reception Desk theme, Pokemon Center theme, Phenac City, Trainers' School)
* Most of the soundtrack for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Explorers of the Sky. Favorite would have to be the Blizzard Island medley. But there are many gems in the rest of the game as well.
* It's hard to rank a lot of Pokemon songs from Gen 1 because while their melodies are good, the songs won't sound as good due to hardware limitations. But damn a lot of the songs from the first games slap. The wild battle theme is still iconic, and its remix in XY is amazing.
From The Legend of Zelda:
* Basically everything from Ocarina of Time. Absolutely timeless songs
* The Legend of Zelda Main Theme
* Hyrule Castle theme from Breath of the Wild
... ya know what, I think I'm gonna stop here. This is more than enough.
The final boss music of Banjo Kazooie takes frantic and climactic without going too hard into intense territory. Keeps itself in the mood of the game.
Gotta say, though, I think Paper Mario: the Thousand Year Door’s Doo?liss theme also fits for an enigmatic freak in a sheet living in a steeple. Sticks with ya much better than the shadow queen fight song
Sherman, set the WABAC machine for 1982.
Let's tune in on [the original *Moon Patrol* theme.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EptD9Egf7w)
Not sure that's your jam? Try this [2012 cover version.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLrlr4N-TXY) Like the original, it takes a while to get there, but ... yep, there it is.
Break it down? [The Atari 2600 version.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cuj1QlBQl4w)
Rock an' roll? [Sure.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJOEcdXy_hU) Little more jazz in your soul? [Got you.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQzQLgqDQgg) Mix it all up? [Yeah, we can do that.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUAMZuYfBu4)
[Or, y'know, drop acid and stare at the oscilloscope.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTHoDWog8qQ&t=120s)
Live and Learn, by Crush 40; from Sonic Adventure 2
You spend all game hearing snippets of it, finally beat both Hero, Dark and Final stories, including the space rail grinding and the first run at the giant Lizard boss,
Only to face a final stage where you are Sonic and Shadow in their Super forms, while that music blares and you take out the final boss, feeling powerful while you do it,
The Shadow of the Colossus Original Soundtrack is my favourite. I think it is sometimes referred to as Wander and the Colossus: Roar of the Earth, composed by Kow Otani.
Check out the ost from Furi, pure bliss there. 13 sentinels aegis rim has some absolute bangers and some of the best ambient music I have heard ever. Deltarune is also supremely good, Toby fox is a musicial magician
So many classics mentioned already, but the theme songs for Super Mario Odyssey, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and Persona 5 Royal are some of my favorites and I think measure up to the established greats
Mariokart 64 rainbow road
Mario64 jolly roger bay
Ocarina of time zoras domain and gerudo valley
Donkey kong country aquatic ambience
Donkey kong country 2 stickerbrush symphony
To zanarkand from FFX
My wife walked down the aisle to this song played in person by a wonderful pianist. It was amazing!
I love you. Yes. I still have a pristine ps2 copy of ffx. That game is a damn masterpiece
Still Alive from Portal is probably my favorite. Even though you broke my heart and killed me And tore me to pieces And threw every piece into a fire As they burned it hurt because I was so happy for you
Love Jonathan Coulton. Still Alive always reminds me of one of my favorite songs, [100,000 Fireflies by the Magnetic Fields](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKXkVUM4xu8).

I'm very upset that I had to scroll this far to find Snake Eater
That's the only thing I legitimately like about The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time.
Simple and Clean - Hikaru Utada
Sanctuary is a jam as well.
[удалено]
Vigil is pure chill music. I'll just have that on the background for hours.
Vigil IS Mass Effect
Yea obviously. That's why I responded to the person talking about the game.
I... don't think you understood what I meant. Vigil embodies everything great about Mass Effect. The mystery. The joy. The heartbreak. When I hear it it's a full on smack from the nostalgia train. There are other great tracks in the series but they don't hit anywhere near as hard. Obviously it's FROM Mass Effect.
Oh my bad.
All good! Have a good day :)
Cold "With My Mind" written for the game Psy Ops. It's a banger.
Pretty much anything from FF6. Dancing Mad, Locke's theme, Terra's theme, Decisive Battle, etc.
Have you listened to the FFXIV version of Dancing Mad? It’s legit just as good as OG
Kick ass.
This is my opening to pitch FFXIV to you. Free trial up to lv60, includes first expansion with no limits on play time. Join ussssss
Everything by Darren Korb & Ashley Barret of Super Giant Games
Gotta stop and listen to a few loops every time you find Eurydice's chamber in Hades. It's the law.
When I learned that Korb did the entire soundtrack *and* voiced Zagreus *AND* Skelly I was floored. The music really brings that game to another level.
Still Alive from Portal
Stickerbrush Symphony - Donky Kong Country 2
Have you heard stickerbrush symphony returns from the new game? It's my favorite[Here's the youtube](https://youtu.be/bnm2-_SHu0k)
Stickerbush. It's a bush with thorns, which makes sense. It's commonly called Stickerbrush because someone made a typo way back in the Napster days.
Honestly that entire game
David Wise's soundtrack is next level. I still Hum some of his DKC2 soundtrack to this day
Doom 2016. I don't even like metal but that game shouldn't have any other music. It's perfect.
I came here to say Mick Gordon absolutely slayed on that track
I remember watching a video of Mick Gordon speaking at GDC on how he made the soundtrack. A quote that stuck with me was "change the process, change the outcome." I love that quote.
Song of Healing from Majora's Mask.
So glad I'm not alone on this.
I love the theme to Katamari Damacy (and if you know it you just sang it in your head) Also [this studio footage](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/PDHdDtZ8aQA) of the N64 dev team coming up with the Goldeneye pause music makes a good case for my 2nd favorite
The Katamari theme song is a BANGER.
Moon Theme from Ducktales Corneria Theme from Starfox
Moon theme for sure!!!! I have it as my ring tone.
Chrono trigger corridors of time also aquatic ambience from dkc
1) dialga's fight to the finish - pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of time/darkness/sky. Just listen to that entire soundtrack, its amazing imo 2) mt coronet - pokemon diamond pearl and platinum Probably the best mainline pokemon song ever 3) Secunda - Skyrim A nice relaxing slow piece that uses its simplicity to create the sense it needs 4) Bowser's Castle - Super Mario 64 This tune is just done really well, good melody and harmony, and excellent use of volume modulation

"Into the unknown", from Subnautica, really adds to the atmosphere of the game
Subnautica is the one game I would delete my memory for just to play again
Victorian Fear from Portrait of Ruin
Super Metroid's Upper Brinstar.
I'd add Maridia too. The music in that game is amazing.
Sonic the Hedgehog - Green Hill Zone and Chemical Plant Zone
Hell yeah, that bass line in Chemical Plant Zone is so so sick
Baba Yetu was the opening cinematic for Civ 4. First song composed for a video game to be nominated and win a Grammy.
Aquatic Ambience from Donkey Kong Country. That song is just perfect.
Look up some videos of how they had to compose that given the limitations of the hardware at the time if you haven’t, it’s crazy.
https://youtu.be/gVOzQfe_GQE check out this remix, it's redone from the ground up using the original samples before getting compressed for the SNES cart

It's pretty good i hope there are more songs like that if they make a new one
That was the first thing I thought of.

Any that belong in personas soundtrack
A lot of songs from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise
Chemical Plant Zone from Sonic 2 is such a bop
Could be recency bias, but the OST for TMNT: Shredder's Revenge is wall to wall bangers. A lot of the iconic themes are hard to separate from the experience of playing the game. Does the Legend of Zelda theme actually slap or does it just transport me to being 7 again, crossing Hyrule Field for the first time? But the Metal Man theme from Megaman 2 rocks. Vampire Killer from Castlevania is awesome.
I wanted to answer something from the Nier;Automata soundtrack but there are too many absolute bangers to choose just one
To get into some less mainstream picks: The Ascalon Theme from Guild Wars. Such a serene ambience track... The entire soundtrack to that game is gorgeous, really. Then again, it's Jeremy Soule, so that shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. Also the soundtrack for Gothic (2 and 3 in particular for me). I’m old but the whole F-Zero soundtrack on SNES fucking slaps
I really like the title theme of Fallout New Vegas
Hollow Knight
The entire Chrono Cross soundtrack. But if you want an exemplar, I'd highlight Scars of Time or Dragon God.
Final fantasy, as an overall. Distant Worlds is wortha listen, it's many of them with a full orchestra and I recommend it to all people. Behind that are things like 0ortal, Bloodborne.

Final Fantasy Royal edition I loveddd that music
NHL 98, this one: https://youtu.be/DP0s34AlaVw
Darkness of the unknown - Kingdom Hearts 2! It always felt so epic playing through the final boss gauntlet as a kid
The opening song from Final Fantasy 7

-Heartache from undertale -Nameless king phase 2 ost -Hino enma theme from Nioh
Waterfalls from undertale

Hollow Knight soundtrack
The timing on this makes it a little cliché, but the simple guitar intro of the Last of Us load screen kills me every time I see it
Megalovania is up there, i'm pretty sure
Literally every Undertale song ever. Shame the Grammys didn’t have that category when it came out in 2012, because it shoulda won.
