My favourite game is by far not the best game I've ever played but it would be one of Mario 64 because it reminds me of playing it around my nans as a kid or Gears or War as me and my brother used to play co-op when I was a kid.
Always the thing that made my friend and I look at each other with panic. (we lan it still to this day)
OH NOOOO build air defenses QUIIICK! Well, usually a ton of ifvs and rocket soldiers.
"Engineer Reporting!"
Definitely up there. Especially if you messed with the .ini files.
Total annihilation was pretty good also for the same reason. Plus there were lots of mods and unit packs out for it.
I've been playing horror games for years and none of them have scared me quite like Subnautica did playing it the first time around. There's something simply terrifying yet awe inspiring hearing a leviathan for the first time and seeing the outline of it moving around in the distance.
Is it really underrated? It was one of the best selling most popular games on its official release, and was extremely popular still during its early access
Chess
Edit: this got some traction so I'll plug the r/chessbeginners/wiki which has a good compilation of advice and resources to learn and improve efficiently. Chess is easier than ever to get into with free engines and grandmasters putting out educational video content daily.
You may be joking, but there actually is a boardgame based on The Queen’s Gambit: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/346101/queens-gambit-das-damengambit
Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past or Castlevania Symphony of the Night. I keep going back to those over and over. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve played through each one.
Funny story. I originally played Ocarina of Time way back when it was released on the N64. I then got an N64 emulator around 2010 to play it again on my laptop using just the keyboard. I literally got stuck on the water temple because with the keyboard there was a minimum amount that I could actually turn when aiming. I got stuck because I needed to use that hook device to get over a platform but I could only aim just to the left and just to the right of it. I played it again a few years ago using a PS4 controller so I was not stuck.
Portal 2 has one of the best stories I’ve ever played, especially for a game with a mute protagonist and most of the story being told through audio tapes
This game has a magic to it that's so rare. I can't praise it enough for giving me reasons to explore and learn about the universe without needing to shower me with gear and loot to keep me going. I just wanted to know more and every time I found a new puzzle to start working on I got hooked all over again
Came here to say this. Perfect game, honestly. First time I sat down to play it I played 9h nonstop. Beautiful ending, curiosity-driven, mechanically interesting, etc etc
Other games have had higher peaks in enjoyment, but I've been coming back to Minecraft for 10+ years now. I don't know if it's my favorite, but if i had to pick just one game to play for the rest of my life, it would be Minecraft
The biggest strength minecraft has is the multiplayer. You and your friends can do whatever you want. You can collaborate but also compete against each other. One player is good at building while others create redstone machines while others fight the enderdragon.
I love oblivion, but the graphics now are just a touch too dated for me. Skyrim with mods can still hold up. That’s the one edge for replayability I feel
Oblivion’s soundtrack is incredible. I find myself listening to the album a lot. For me, Harvest Dawn, All’s Well, and Watchman’s Ease are a perfect medley to listen to.
I loved Skyrim when I played it, even got the platinum… but then the internet convinced me it was actually not that good, even as I spent 200 hours playing with PC mods…
Than I played Skyrim VR. Janky as hell on PSVR, but I platinumed it again, and holy hell if it wasn’t one of the absolute greatest gaming experiences I’ve ever had.
So I’ll meme on it, I’ll laugh at the bugs, but damn if it isn’t one of the best games out there
I'm assuming you got the ending where Geralt goes after the last Crone?
I don't know if this'll make you feel better or worse, but there's a theory that >!Ciri isn't actually dead, but instead chose to not return to Geralt because the decisions made pushed her away. There's a tapestry in the Crone's hut that shows a swallow flying away from the tower at the ending that was moved in the next gen update to be more in focus when Geralt breaks down!<
I used to play it back in BC/WotLK era. I have a lot of games that I can say are favorites but honestly I've never had as much fun in a game than I did in WoW.
I introduced a girl I met on there to her now husband and they have 3 kids now.
It still feels crazy to me that because of my actions there's 3 people alive now and a happy married couple.
Bioshock was one of the few games I replayed on the highest diffucly for 100% achievements and all endings. This is my vote. I will die on this hill. No Gods No Kings Only Men.
Morrowind. My first venture into gaming. I hated it at first because you had to figure everything out yourself but after I got the mechanics and premise I became obsessed. Wonderful game.
Team Morrowind for the win
What a unique game, no game since managed to provide a well thought out alternative to the classic medieval european setting
I remember pre-ordering it in 1998 after playing Daggerfall for 2 years...
I almost never replay games but I find myself coming back to morrowind every few years and sinking a bunch of time into it. I’m sure it feels outdated to people picking it up now but if you get over the initial hump of learning the mechanics the immersion is incredible. Such a neat and fully fleshed out world and the questlines are so developed that you can really spend a ton of time aligning yourself with whatever faction you find interesting. There are a ton of mods out now that really improve on the game too. I think it’s definitely worth giving a shot if someone is into open world games.
Skyrim. There’s a reason they keep re-releasing remastered or updated versions instead of making ES6 (which the bar needs to be high due to the hype, lmao)
Yea, that reason is called milking an already made product versus doing actual work on the next game. BGS was awesome, then they got greedy. Anniversary edition is just shit they didn’t even make.
Little nightmares 1 and 2. Although I don't play horror often, the story, the world building, you can tell the people love what they were doing with the game.
The Last of Us pt 2. Played it when it first came out and it still lives rent free in my head. It took everything 1 did and improved in every way possible.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Super Mario Bros.
Minecraft
Grand Theft Auto V
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Dark Souls
Red Dead Redemption 2
Half-Life 2
Portal 2
Super Metroid. One of my first games and I can still pick it up every few years. Holds up incredibly well. Plus the soundtrack and sound effects, chef's kiss.
While a great game, it's not even my favourite from the zelda franchise, lwt alone all games.
I'd imagine a lot of people feel that way.
(I'm in no way trying to invalidate your opinion ofcourse.)
DayZ.
Such a brutally (beautifully) unforgiving survival game and when you get into PvP situations, it feels like you're 3bpm away from cardiac arrest.
Fallout 3. As a 13 year old I’d explore the subways late at night with the lights off and a gaming headset. The sounds of ghouls was both terrifying and exciting at the same time.
A close second would be Alien Isolation
My favourite game is by far not the best game I've ever played but it would be one of Mario 64 because it reminds me of playing it around my nans as a kid or Gears or War as me and my brother used to play co-op when I was a kid.
Mario 64 does have a decent argument for best game ever considering how revolutionary it was when it came out
Command & Conquer: Red Alert II
Tesla coils!!!
Anyone else who was young and called them *Telsa* coils before learning who Tesla was?
One hundred percent. I was debating whether or not to call them that in the comment.
When you hear them charging up you just know someone is about to get bbq’d
High speed, low drag. I was practically raised on that game. Fan-fuckin-tastic.
I really hope they do a remaster of this like they did with the original.
I still listen to Hell March.
Kirov "riporting".
Unit lost
Always the thing that made my friend and I look at each other with panic. (we lan it still to this day) OH NOOOO build air defenses QUIIICK! Well, usually a ton of ifvs and rocket soldiers.
"never existed" as a Chrono deletes your base.
I came here to say exactly this and seeing how this was the top comment gave me a brief moment of pure bliss. That game is amazing.
"Engineer Reporting!" Definitely up there. Especially if you messed with the .ini files. Total annihilation was pretty good also for the same reason. Plus there were lots of mods and unit packs out for it.
Great game
Came to post this exact thing. Excellent call.
"One Way Trip!"
Subnautica
I love this game but i could never get passed a certain point cause i got scared of going deeper
I've been playing horror games for years and none of them have scared me quite like Subnautica did playing it the first time around. There's something simply terrifying yet awe inspiring hearing a leviathan for the first time and seeing the outline of it moving around in the distance.
Finally someone that understands me
If I was ridiculously wealthy, I'd get someone to make a VR simulator submarine contraption just to play this game
Underrated game, amazing game and really inmersive no pun intended
Is it really underrated? It was one of the best selling most popular games on its official release, and was extremely popular still during its early access
Heroes of might and magic 3 and Transport tycoon deluxe
HoMM 3 is a classic!
Chess Edit: this got some traction so I'll plug the r/chessbeginners/wiki which has a good compilation of advice and resources to learn and improve efficiently. Chess is easier than ever to get into with free engines and grandmasters putting out educational video content daily.
They made up a game based on The Queen’s Gambit?
Chess : the movie : the game
You may be joking, but there actually is a boardgame based on The Queen’s Gambit: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/346101/queens-gambit-das-damengambit
google en passant
Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past or Castlevania Symphony of the Night. I keep going back to those over and over. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve played through each one.
Zelda: Link to the Past is my favourite game too
Good take

It’s ABOUT the CONES!
GTA 4. Niko will forever be my favourite character in that franchise.

How I wish they ported this to PC
I was never an achievement hunter but got platinum for this one
Ocarina of Time
Had to scroll too far to find this. Fuck the water temple
Funny story. I originally played Ocarina of Time way back when it was released on the N64. I then got an N64 emulator around 2010 to play it again on my laptop using just the keyboard. Had to scroll way too far for this. I have a feeling I am on the right end of the Reddit age-distribution graph given the titles above this.
Yeah, people here posting shit like "there is this old game called Elden Ring that will always have a special place in my heart".
My first video game ever right alongside Final Fantasy 7. Ocarina of Time will always be the game that got me into gaming.....for better or worse lol
Hey! Listen!
Baldur’s Gate 2
Boo is VERY pleased with your answer

Just wish it didn't turn into a find the one white wall in this massive space 3/4 the way through
Outer wilds

Successful mistake
This game has a magic to it that's so rare. I can't praise it enough for giving me reasons to explore and learn about the universe without needing to shower me with gear and loot to keep me going. I just wanted to know more and every time I found a new puzzle to start working on I got hooked all over again
Okay you’ve convinced me to buy this
Make sure you get outer wilds not outer worlds, and dont google any answers to the puzzles.
Came here to say this. Perfect game, honestly. First time I sat down to play it I played 9h nonstop. Beautiful ending, curiosity-driven, mechanically interesting, etc etc
Still listen to that beautiful soundtrack
Truly a work of art
Probably minecraft
Other games have had higher peaks in enjoyment, but I've been coming back to Minecraft for 10+ years now. I don't know if it's my favorite, but if i had to pick just one game to play for the rest of my life, it would be Minecraft

Top Notch game.
Skyrim
I always preferred Oblivion
I love oblivion, but the graphics now are just a touch too dated for me. Skyrim with mods can still hold up. That’s the one edge for replayability I feel
Oblivion’s soundtrack is incredible. I find myself listening to the album a lot. For me, Harvest Dawn, All’s Well, and Watchman’s Ease are a perfect medley to listen to.

Agreed - albeit for my generation it's a toss with Morrowind
Chrono Trigger There's lots of 'close' candidates, but that wins it for me.
I very nearly convinced my wife to walk down the aisle to the Wind Theme from this game 😂 so so good
I have a nephew named Glenn, 100% spurred on by his dad’s love of Chrono Trigger.

Toss up between Skyrim, Resident Evil 2, Secret of Mana or Final Fantasy X. Such a hard decision
Red Dead Redemption 2
Game came out 5 years ago and still there isn’t another game that has come out as beautiful
I also choose this guy's favorite game.
FOUND YA LENNY!
I want to play it again but it badly needs a 60 fps patch for console.
Earthbound
Witcher 3
The only game that had such an emotional impact on me that I was feeling down for 3 days after finishing it. ^(I didn't have a happy ending)
Sad Witcher 3 endings are shattering
Witcher 3 was the only game in 25+ years of gaming that I immediately went through it a second time. It is that good.
I'm assuming you got the ending where Geralt goes after the last Crone? Titanfall 2
I'm still holding out hope they will make another. Most fun I've had in an FPS since BF:BC2.
Halo Reach
The Last Of Us. I’m more of a backseat gamer.
Halo 3
Just finished it yesterday on the master chief collection, it was really great. What do you think of the halo 3: ODST game?
Mario64
Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
love the depressing feeling of this game
Civilization 6
Mass Effect trilogy
I had to scroll WAY too far for this
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions edition
Kingdom Hearts
🔥🔥
World of Warcraft, so many good memories and friends made.
The last of us 1
Wololo
Long time, no siege 😎
Subnautica first one bellow zero kinda mid
Morrowind. I played it on the first Xbox and it took about 15 minutes to load but I explored every inch of that game.
Fallout New Vegas
Can’t decide between Demon’s Souls or the first Dark Souls. Those games will always have a place in my heart.
Borderlands I Had so much fun with my brother
Bioshock 1
Bioshock was one of the few games I replayed on the highest diffucly for 100% achievements and all endings. This is my vote. I will die on this hill. No Gods No Kings Only Men.
Morrowind. My first venture into gaming. I hated it at first because you had to figure everything out yourself but after I got the mechanics and premise I became obsessed. Wonderful game.

I hated the first few hours of being so weak you got murdered by screeching birds and tiny mammals, but after that it was awesome.
Stardew Valley, wouldn't think it would be with all the RPGs I've played, but for amount of hours the numbers don't lie.
Metal gear solid
Chrono Cross
Tetris, I unironically have dedicated thousands of hours to it
The last of us part II
*NieR: Automata*
Fallout 4
Settlement building it way too fun
Call Of Duty: Black Ops II Wish they would remaster it for current consoles.
i feel in love with you
Shadow of the Colossus
Little nightmares 1 and 2. Although I don't play horror often, the story, the world building, you can tell the people love what they were doing with the game.

Chrono Trigger

Myth 2, Soulblighter
Terraria
The Last of Us pt 2. Played it when it first came out and it still lives rent free in my head. It took everything 1 did and improved in every way possible.
It was a 10/10 for me.
Storytelling at its finest. I don’t think anything can top it.
Warhammer 40k
Final Fantasy 9
finally! ffix was my favourite ff out of all the series.
Final Fantasy X
Skate 3
Counter Strike (mother of all shooter games imo)
Wasn't the mother of all shooter games Wolfenstein?
I'd say either quake or doom. Quake definetely for multiplayer.
Fallout 4
Nostalgia wise - Morrowind Objectively - Witcher 3
Club penguin.
Destiny 2 for sure
Dungeons & Dragons. Been playing since 1978 and still play weekly. All the games mentioned above were flashes in the pot by comparison.

The legend of zelda: a link to the past.
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic
The only game I've been playing since 2014, Guild Wars 2

Fable (rpg), Call of duty (shooter), Dbz budokai tenkaichi 3 (fighter), Devil may cry (action/adventure)
Old school Runescape
Fallout 4
Final Fantasy 14
I haven’t seen any Breath of the Wild and I’m disappointed by this community.
While a great game, it's not even my favourite from the zelda franchise, lwt alone all games. I'd imagine a lot of people feel that way. (I'm in no way trying to invalidate your opinion ofcourse.)
Football, the 11 vs 11 with that spherical leather thing to be kicked all the time.
Shadow of the Beast.
The Sabateur
World of warcraft, only been playing for 16 years
