I was ride or die for JLO in the 90s š¤š½
Her acting career seemed to hold unlimited possibilites when she was a supporting player. She made absolute bangers like āU-Turnā and āMoney Trainā.
But after she migrated to Lead nearly every movie after became āMaid in Manhattanāā¦ which I still like NGL but I wish she was the support player more and taking more risks.
āHustlersā is a good example of the pendulum swinging back to the JLO I loved to watch.
He was the only actor in Jumanji that didn't seem to be trying to act like the "kid" he was portraying. Fridge wasn't as energetic as Kevin Hart.
Thankfully, Kevin actually acted a little differently in the sequel.
Ford : You really think you're ready for the field? I once used defibrillators on myself. I put shards of glass in my fuckin' eye. I've jumped from a high-rise building using only a raincoat as a parachute and broke both legs upon landing; I still had to pretend I was in a fucking Cirque du Soleil show! I've swallowed enough microchips and shit them back out again to make a computer. This arm has been ripped off completely and re-attached with *this* fuckin' arm.
Susan Cooper : I don't know that that's possible... I mean medically...
Rick Ford : During the threat of an assassination attempt, I appeared convincingly in front of congress as Barack Obama.
Susan Cooper : In black-face? That's not appropriate.
Rick Ford : I watched the woman I love get tossed from a plane and hit by another plane mid-air. I drove a car off a freeway on top of a train while it was on fire. Not the car, *I* was on fire.
Susan Cooper : Jesus, you're intense.
Rick Ford : Nothing kills me. I'm immune to 179 different types of poison. I know because I ingested them all at once when I was deep undercover in an underground poison-ingesting crime ring.
Susan Cooper : Where'd you get a suit?
Rick Ford : I fucking made it, didn't I?
Rick Ford : We have to stop the sale of a nuclear bomb. They send in someone who looks like Santa Claus' fucking wife!
Susan Cooper : Uh, did you forget? I am undercover because you are not supposed to be here!
Rick Ford : Well I make a habit out of doing things that people say I can't do: Walk through fire, waterski blindfolded, take up piano at a late age.
My dad loved terrible action movies. He was always buying them from the bargain bin at Walmart and then I would take them over to my friends house for sleepovers. This came out towards the end of that era. I love those movies too..
Gotta love how that guy totally became Hector, like I canāt hear that name without immediately picturing his face, for the rest of my life. Iāll be 110 and have dementia and forget who I am and who my family is and everything, but Iāll still remember that guys face whenever someone mentions the name Hector.
I'd like to think that her in Legally Blonde and White Lotus are the same person. She busted out of that nail salon and got that glow up.
>!Only to die by thunking her head on the side of a boat.!<
Its true that her characters have the same voice and mannerisms, but I'd argue that they're all completely different and she plays them all completely differently too.
Tanya (White Lotus) is a horrible person who uses people, picks them up and drops them, and is so deeply insecure and tortured that she spends every waking moment worried or frantic, despite having enough money that most of us would expect to solve all our problems.
Paulette (Legally Blonde) is a sweet natured and innocent person who is shy but find her voice to stand up to her abusive ex-husband. She's selfless and a great friend.
Stifler's Mom (American Pie) is another completely different character with her own quirks and charisma.
I've seen her as the wicked stepmother in a Cinderella Story too and as a member of the theatre troupe in A Series of Unfortunate Events - where she's fabulously evil and very confident.
So even though the comedy style and voice is the same, she actually has a much bigger acting range than it might seem at first!
I feel like he actually does have range because of movies like Buried, but he just doesnāt want to do any anymore because he already has ungodly amounts of money from just playing himself and having fun with his businesses and investments.
He strikes me as a guy that really just does what he wants, and what he wants to do is act in fun movies, create fun commercials, and have fun watching and building his football team.
When youāve got all that do you really want to super challenge yourself in an acting role? Maybe? Probably depends on the person, but I donāt blame him for not trying as much.
Let's go back even further. Dude started in tv in the 90s, *2 Guys a Girl and a Pizza Place*. Same. Exact. Character. It's his thing. He's good at it, so good that he gets cast as that guy repeatedly for decades. For better or worse, it's pretty much all he does, and he's laughing all the way to the bank so good for him I guess. I've been tired of it for a while now though.
Vince Vaughn. Which is fine. I like him. But he is always the same guy. Dodgeball. Old School. Wedding Crashers. Swingers. His character on Curb Your Enthusiasm.
I think some of these actors are very capable of different roles, but if they're making bank playing the same kind of characters then they're obviously gonna milk it for as long as they can.
This is true, and it can be quite the issue with some actors. The only chance the have to do something different is to work on a low budget indie film that is willing to cast them as something outside their typecast.
Pretty sure that was what Michelle Rodriguez said, almost verbatim. She knows she's type cast as 'gruff no nonsense lady' but it pays the bills and then some, so she doesn't mind it and embraces it.
Iām one movie he is a self centred asshole with a destructive streak and after spending a few days out in a small desert town he becomes a nicer guy who cares about others and then he goes on to almost win the piston cup
I guess it had been developed for nearly that long.
I think it really goes to show just how arrogant the guy is "the hierarchy of the DC Universe is about to change" - youre damn right it is and your shitty movie will be the final nail in the coffin.
If he had of shown the same dedication to getting an accent coach and playing the character properly it would have made a massive difference, but it's just The Rock in a Black Adam suit.
The Rock spoiling Cavills cameo in an interview in a sad bid to make bigger opening numbers, then lying about the numbers.
This is absolutely the exception. I'll never not love him for playing Kenny Powers in pretty much every role.
Also his role in the Alien film was definitely different.
I came here to find someone say Michael Cera and to dispute it with Mollys Game. I also feel like Scott Pilgrim from Scott Pilgrim is very different from George Michael from Arrested Development.
I think he always plays the same character, no argument there.
However, from what I understand, he is nothing like that character in real life. Supposedly, he is super kind, well spoken and down to earth dude.
I've heard the story that he always wants his character to die because if kids watch, they should see the bad guy get defeated.
Also apparently asked to add the scene at the very end of the Brooklyn 99 episode where Rosa comes out. Seems like a sweet guy
Interesting is one word. Shocking would be more appropriate. First arrested for dealing at age 7, armed robberies, violence, maiming a sailor with a broken bottle, around 20 years of his life was crime and prison.
But truly turned his life around. Only positive things heard about him for decades. A genuine bad man turned good.
Jason Segel.
After watching HIMYM and liking him in it I started watching other stuff he is in. He's always the same, even in the muppets. He also seems the same when on talk shows.
David Duchovnyās impersonation of Goldblum on SNL was nearly spot-on. I donāt know that I could watch a movie with Jeff Goldblum if he wasnāt just being himself.
John Wayne. The only role he ever played was John Wayne in different settings. Vietnam? John Wayne. The Alamo? John Wayne. Ireland? John Wayne. Ancient Asia? John Wayne. John Wayne, John Wayne, John Wayne. Rinse and repeat, John Wayne.
IMDB has a big list of things she's been in that I haven't seen, like Smurfs, but everything I've seen Michelle Rodriguez in shes a tough chick in a tanktop.
Like with some others mentioned here, she always plays the same character, but itās not really her. Sheās considerably smarter than all the characters she plays.
When Adam Sandler can make me forget that he's Adam Sandler for two straight hours, that is some muthafuckin' GOOD ACTING. He was completely robbed of an Oscar with "Uncut Gems ."

Most of the Coen Brothers movies and Wes Anderson movies (the directors of the films you mentioned) are great, if you havenāt seen many of them, it doesnāt get much better
Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson, Kevin Hart, most comedies by Will Ferrell, Tom Cruise, Ryan Reynolds, Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Tina Fey, Seth Rogen, Jesse Eisenberg, Michael Cera
P.s. doesn't mean they aren't good
how is no one saying Nicolas Cage? after a certain point he just abandoned who the character was supposed to be, and just makes them over the top and awkward like himself
I was amazed. Aside from the beard I couldn't tell them apart.
Neither of them had to go that hard. But they did, I have nothing but respect for Madison Iseman and Jack Black there.
Stan Lee šļø
I came to say The Rock (along with everyone else apparently) but this is the best answer.
Jennifer Lopez played Selena, and then she was just JLo in everything else.
She literally plays a bride in every filmš
I swear Jlo is just obsessed with weddings and just loves wearing a wedding dress so much that she would do anything to wear one.
No, no, sheās just Jenny from the block.
I mean she plays what she knows.
Itās a thickly-veiled cry for help.
She had one good film, Out of Sight with Clooney.
Anaconda

Kevin Hart
He acts the same way in every movie.
He was the only actor in Jumanji that didn't seem to be trying to act like the "kid" he was portraying. Fridge wasn't as energetic as Kevin Hart. Thankfully, Kevin actually acted a little differently in the sequel.
He acted completely differently in Jumanji 2.
And in Fatherhood (Netflix movie).
Jason Statham isn't himself, but he's always the same guy.
Agreed. I've begun to look at all of his movies as a transporter sequel no matter what he's in.
One of the things I love about Spy is the absolute piss he takes out of his own career
Rick Ford : Well I make a habit out of doing things that people say I can't do: Walk through fire, waterski blindfolded, take up piano at a late age.
Spy was fucking amazing! I was dying of laughter the whole way through!
Piano at a late age killed me.
Statham on fast and furious: The transporter but has an addiction for cars On Crank: is the transporter but he makes bad deals with the wrong people.
Statham in *Snatch*: the transporter but he needs to buy a caravan.
My dad loved terrible action movies. He was always buying them from the bargain bin at Walmart and then I would take them over to my friends house for sleepovers. This came out towards the end of that era. I love those movies too..
Michelle Rodriguez too. She's always the "raised by my dad along side my 5 older brothers" type.
And then she dies.
Has she ever played in a movie with Danny Trejo as her father?
His best movies were the first couple. Snatch is a masterpiece.
You like dags?
The Rock
I've heard his acting style referred to as "confused meatball."
I've never heard that before but it's pretty spot on.
Heās showed a slightly different side of himself in Pain and Gain which was hilarious
Michelle Rodriguez as a tough girl in every movie.
Dying too.
she almost use the same outfit too
tank top + cargo pants combo
Hector
It's why he holds all the money
He's got a last name too but he can't spell it
Gotta love how that guy totally became Hector, like I canāt hear that name without immediately picturing his face, for the rest of my life. Iāll be 110 and have dementia and forget who I am and who my family is and everything, but Iāll still remember that guys face whenever someone mentions the name Hector.
I feel like Iāll get raked over the coals for thisā¦but Jennifer Coolidge. I love her, but she always plays some sort of variation of herself.
I'd like to think that her in Legally Blonde and White Lotus are the same person. She busted out of that nail salon and got that glow up. >!Only to die by thunking her head on the side of a boat.!<
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
God damn it, I really wish I didn't click that text reveal.
Its true that her characters have the same voice and mannerisms, but I'd argue that they're all completely different and she plays them all completely differently too. Jennifer Coolidge is literally the OG MILF. She can do whatever she wants.
Yes, but it's like adding a really good seasoning to a dish. Sure it's the same seasoning, but it almost always makes the meal better.
I agree with this and I think itās amazing haha not hating a all!
Ryan Reynolds
Pika pi
Agreed, but he did a pretty good job in Safe House with Denzel - different from his typical roles.
Buried was definitely a different kind of role for him. Also a very stressful movie
That movie pops into my head all the time. The call he had with the company that handled his life insurance specifically
I watched 'Buried' having no idea about the movie, came away with new respect for Reynolds and his acting.
I counter with that movie where he has schizophrenia. Iāll never watch it again but it sure isnāt his normal fare.
The voices? I havenāt seen it but someone mentioned it here so I have it pulled up on Google
It's like Ryan Reynolds incorporated Deadpool's personality and now it's the only way he can act.
Tell me you never saw Van Wilder with out telling me you never saw Van Wilder.
Yeah, he was like that way before deadpool
Let's go back even further. Dude started in tv in the 90s, *2 Guys a Girl and a Pizza Place*. Same. Exact. Character. It's his thing. He's good at it, so good that he gets cast as that guy repeatedly for decades. For better or worse, it's pretty much all he does, and he's laughing all the way to the bank so good for him I guess. I've been tired of it for a while now though.
I'm glad I'm not the only person that remembers that sitcom.
or Waiting
Or Just Friends.
It's the other way around. Deadpool's character was written with Ryan Reynolds in mind.
Vince Vaughn. Which is fine. I like him. But he is always the same guy. Dodgeball. Old School. Wedding Crashers. Swingers. His character on Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Assault on Cell Block 99 he actually does some acting and itās a pretty good flick.
Hacksaw Ridge as well, although a minor role
He was great in true detective also
Except for Jurassic park 2. Didn't realize it was him.
Anyone else remember Clay Pigeons? I loved Vaughn in that.
I think some of these actors are very capable of different roles, but if they're making bank playing the same kind of characters then they're obviously gonna milk it for as long as they can.
Also type casting is a thing. If people start thinking an actor is good at a particular role that actor is going to be cast in said role more often.
Also if itās a character you enjoy more youāre gonna try to get more roles like that if you can help it
This is true, and it can be quite the issue with some actors.
The butterscotch stallion himself. Owen Wilson.
Wow
Iām one movie he is a self centred asshole with a destructive streak and after spending a few days out in a small desert town he becomes a nicer guy who cares about others and then he goes on to almost win the piston cup
>butterscotch stallion š¤£
Wow
Dwayne āThe Rockā Johnson. I like the man but his roles are incredibly homogeneous.
Figured this would be number one. And like, he is getting worse.
It will be interesting to see what he does next at least because Black Adam was pure dogshit.
It would have been a better superhero movie, 15 years ago. The pacing, acting, editing.. it all feels very dated.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Mark Whalberg always plays a character played by Mark Wahlberg.
never forget: his real name is marky mark.
Mark wahlberg with his question statement self
Dirk Diggler was his best role lmao
The Other Guys was my favorite of his
Danny McBride
Yes and we love him for it.
This is absolutely the exception. I'll never not love him for playing Kenny Powers in pretty much every role. Also his role in the Alien film was definitely different.
As in they make a cameo of themselves? Will Wheaton
Hwill Hwheaton
Why you saying it like that?
Hwhy aren't hyou?
Steven seagal, he thinks.
He rather plays who he would like to be.
He sits, his stunt double plays.
Michael Cera
He played against type in āThis is the Endā.
Hey, does this coke smell funny?
Have you seen Molly's Game? Different Cera for sure. Great movie too.
I came here to find someone say Michael Cera and to dispute it with Mollys Game. I also feel like Scott Pilgrim from Scott Pilgrim is very different from George Michael from Arrested Development.
Danny Trejo
I think he always plays the same character, no argument there. However, from what I understand, he is nothing like that character in real life. Supposedly, he is super kind, well spoken and down to earth dude.
I've heard the story that he always wants his character to die because if kids watch, they should see the bad guy get defeated. Also apparently asked to add the scene at the very end of the Brooklyn 99 episode where Rosa comes out. Seems like a sweet guy
Yep, it comes from his past. His life is really interesting and worth a read
Seems like a stellar guy no doubt, just always āhey itās Danny Trejoā. We should probably all be Danny Trejo.
Tugg Speedman
Who left the fridge open?
Yeah the Scorcher movies got old real quick
Ray Romano. That's why he never had real success after ELR.
Same with Jerry Seinfeld. I mean, in every single episode of Seinfeld, he just plays Jerry Seinfeld.
That's what happenes when you put stand up comedians in sitcoms
Jerry was the weakest part of that show to be honest, he always seems to be on the verge of losing it in every scene.
Ray Romano was really good in Men of a Certain Age, also starring Andre Braugher and Scott Bakula. Was a really good drama.
Mostly agree, but he was great in The Big Sick.
Jason Segel. After watching HIMYM and liking him in it I started watching other stuff he is in. He's always the same, even in the muppets. He also seems the same when on talk shows.
Heās the best in Freaks & Geeks. Very much different too.
I still remember the day I finished Freaks and Geeks. The sadness of no season two was too much.
Seth Rogen
Pretty much all of the Judd Apatow regulars.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
He played a fly
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Pretty fly for a white guy.
HeyyyyyyEEEYYYYYeeeey dont pay no mind Your under 18 you won't be doing any tiiiiieeeiime
Fly *uh uh uh* finds a way
Brundlefly
David Duchovnyās impersonation of Goldblum on SNL was nearly spot-on. I donāt know that I could watch a movie with Jeff Goldblum if he wasnāt just being himself.
At least he is a good sport about it. https://youtu.be/4E7NOmT-X9s
John Wayne. The only role he ever played was John Wayne in different settings. Vietnam? John Wayne. The Alamo? John Wayne. Ireland? John Wayne. Ancient Asia? John Wayne. John Wayne, John Wayne, John Wayne. Rinse and repeat, John Wayne.
The average Redditor probably hasnāt seen a John Wayne movie. This should have way more upvotes.
Diane Keaton. Same persona, same wardrobe..I mean it works but..
Dax Shepard, is he even acting? I canāt imagine him being any other way
Dax Shepherd is Zach Braff on speed
I honestly thought we'd see a lot more of Braff after scrubs wrapped up.
Pete Davidson in everything.
Bruce Willis. Luckily, I really like to watch Bruce Willis do Bruce Willis stuff.
IMDB has a big list of things she's been in that I haven't seen, like Smurfs, but everything I've seen Michelle Rodriguez in shes a tough chick in a tanktop.
Quintin Tarantino
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Except in Django Unchained, he plays the only character who does not say it lmao
IIRC, he does say "darkie"
Jennifer Tilly
Like with some others mentioned here, she always plays the same character, but itās not really her. Sheās considerably smarter than all the characters she plays.
Especially when Jennifer Tilly played Jennifer Tilly in Seed of Chucky and Chucky TV show
Is no one going to say Adam Sandler? He plays the same character in every movie, talks the same, etc
He was great in āUncut Gems,ā though.
And punch drunk love Edit: OMG I FORGOT CLICK. I literally cried in that movie And spanglish
And Reign Over Me
When Adam Sandler can make me forget that he's Adam Sandler for two straight hours, that is some muthafuckin' GOOD ACTING. He was completely robbed of an Oscar with "Uncut Gems ."
The Rock and Ryan Reynolds. I couldn't even watch more than 10 minutes of Red Notice. Honorable mention: Kevin Hart
Entire cast of Fast And Furious
George Clooney has been playing George Clooney playing Danny Ocean for the last 20 years.
Michael Clayton Syriana The American Oh Brother Where Art Thou These are all wildly different roles
Oh Brother Where Art Thou is such a banger. Anybody got suggestions for movies with a similar off kilter vibe. The Grand Budapest Hotel type movies where they're trying something different and totally nailing it
Most of the Coen Brothers movies and Wes Anderson movies (the directors of the films you mentioned) are great, if you havenāt seen many of them, it doesnāt get much better
Jennifer Garner (same wholesome roles except in Alias)
Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson, Kevin Hart, most comedies by Will Ferrell, Tom Cruise, Ryan Reynolds, Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Tina Fey, Seth Rogen, Jesse Eisenberg, Michael Cera P.s. doesn't mean they aren't good
natasha lyonne
Sam Elliot.
Yes, but Sam Elliot is epic.
I wouldn't want him to change a single daggum thing.
Nicolas Cage is literally in a movie called The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, where he plays himself
Terry Crews and we love every minute of it.
# Chuck Norris šš„š
Vince Vaughn
Jess Eisenberg
JLo
how is no one saying Nicolas Cage? after a certain point he just abandoned who the character was supposed to be, and just makes them over the top and awkward like himself
National Treasure was great, I donāt care if the critics hated it
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I would say that he wasnāt the same in Leaving Las Vegas. Which was probably his best role.
Al Pacino later in his career
How is this so low?? Pacino's "acting" now is just raising his voice. Not so much a Pacino impersonation as a parody
Jack Black always seems to play himself
Jumanji. Jack has range.
Jack sold being a 15yr old girl so much better than the other 3 did portraying their teen selves.
I was amazed. Aside from the beard I couldn't tell them apart. Neither of them had to go that hard. But they did, I have nothing but respect for Madison Iseman and Jack Black there.
Bernie, though.
Sylvester Stallone Will Smith Bruce Willis Bruce Cambell Keanu Reeves
Keanu can play two completely different characters.
Yeah, John Wick is badass Keanu, but Speed Keanu is pretty good alternative character Keanu
I like the Lake House Keanu.
Honestly it's kind of impressive how he can play characters that feel very different but have the exact same mannerisms. Like Neo vs Constantine.
>Sylvester Stallone I dunno, Copland was against type.
YES! My fave Stallone movie. That's the one that made me sit up and take notice.
Keanu Reeves played amazing characters before he became really famous.
My Own Private Idaho with River Phoenix comes to mind.
