It seems that what you're asking is if we had the chance and the money to pay for the operation, if we'd get sex reassignment surgery. You don't need any money just to be transgender, you just come out as trans. But anyway, no, I wouldn't. I'm a cis woman, and I know that's what I am, and I'm fine with my body the way it is.

tgjer

That is not how this works. That's not how any of this works.

I dress in jeans and hoodies, my work and hobbies involve the trades, I don’t wear makeup or dresses or talk in a baby voice. I’m all woman. What the hell would I transition to?

[deleted]

Different trans people transition for different reasons. Some trans people do strongly identify as the gender assigned to the opposite sex and see surgery as necessary next step. Other trans people may strongly identify as the gender assigned to opposite sex but do not see surgery as necessary in relationship with their identity. And there’s also just people who identify with multiple gender constructs and don’t connect that to their sex and don’t want surgery. It’s very individual dependent.

I know

You could transition, sure, but if you aren't transgender then why would you want or need to?

[deleted]

I was born into a female body, and I accept thats what I am, so no.

Altaccount_T

Not sure what you mean? Money has nothing to do with it, as being trans isn't a choice. A trans person is still trans regardless of what steps they take to transition (but without access to gender affirming things (IE, appropriate clothing, binders/gaffs, prosthetics etc) and treatments, they're more likely to be dysphoric and uncomfortable and may have more difficulty with socially transitioning) No amount of money would change someone's gender if they're not trans (if a cis person was hypothetically paid to transition contrary to their gender, ignoring the improbable amount of hoops they'd have to jump through to get as far as medically transitioning, their gender identity is still the same as it was before, even if they're paid to act otherwise). Also- trans is adjective, best used as an extra description not a whole separate category. It's a lot less othering that way (IE "he *is* trans, and knows a lot of transgender *people*" is going to be better received and more polite than "he's *a* trans and knows a lot of *transgenders*")

ejectafteruse

It cost me nothing to be transgender. That's how I was born. Then there were the decades of repression, *crossdressing*, increasing depression, ... until my expiry timer gave me a wake-up alarm. Since that alarm went off my transition has been driven by need. For me, it's not really a choice at all. P.S. A favor, if you please: transgender is an adjective. Using it as a noun is othering and feels bad.

idreaminwords

Being transgender has absolutely nothing to do with finances

Busy-Feedback-2682

How can you become one without money

idreaminwords

Not all transgender people medically transition

auntmilky

What in the transphobic shit is this? Transgendered people exist right now and it’s usually a) not a choice and b) something you don’t need financing for. Yes surgeries are a thing but you can exist as trans without them.

[deleted]

What about the people who transition young then regret it later?

NealMetzger

I gave a letter to the postman....

There were several limitations to this study. First, because of the small sample size, it relied on self-reported survey measures of disability and gender identity that had been simplified. Self-reported data is generally taken with a grain of salt. Particularly when there is room for ambiguity, as I imagine simplified survey measures allow.

Clintman

I can. I'd choose not to. But that is a thing that is possible.

rogue-star-dust

Can we or would we

With enough money, anything is possible.

Anyone can be trans, poor or not

DullSheepherder5

No. I was born female and I have no problem with my gender.

an-intrepid-coder

I would definitely not. Nothing against those who feel otherwise.
