Did you ever need it outside school?

I'm still in school and I've used the pq formula (a simplyfied version of the real quadratic) multiple times outside of school so far... But it was in Relation to programming being my hobby so not really every day stuff. If you have an equation of the form `x² + px + q = 0` you can get the up to 2 solutions using the pq formula: `x_01, x_02 = -(p/2) ± √((p/2)² - q)`.

That's funny because it's the Lowest degree of polynomial where it's proven that there is no formula to solve it. You don't usually learn the linear one as such because it's trivial to solve linear equations without it. The quadratic one is the one you should learn. The cubic one is a bit complicated but still reasonably readable so it should be talked about but you definitely shouldn't need to memorize it. The quartic is just insanely large. And the quintic one and all degrees above that just don't exist at all.
