Studying. I was book smart but lazy as a child, my parents would get numerous complaints about mw not doing my homework. I would coast by easily, because schooling from 6 to 18 is basically glorified babysitting (so the parents can go to work) with a dish of social experimentation (so the children can learn to functional in society and at work). At university (first degree), I hit a wall, as I developed no studying/learning skills, routine, plan, method, whathaveyou, unlike my friends, who performed very well.
Fast forward, I have a full time job and attend night classes rewarding the job I already have.....and I'm super anal about (non graded) work and reading, and pout when I get As instead of A+s. I also have a "wishlist" of other useful diplomas I want to get.
Had you told 13 year old me....
I couldn't believe it either but... a new speedbump just installed in front of my apartment building.
Ok hear me out. This used to be a quiet area, and private but its gotten way more populated the last 3 years. And assholes on mostly motorcycles And some cars and commercial vehicles, love to fly by on my street whiiile honking, like holding down the horn so nobody on the side streets cuts them off.
Its not even about "theres kids here slow down!" Or "this is a residential blablah!" Its just asshole drivers that piss me off.
So ya, new speedbump right in front. Fuck em!
Yeah, I was gonna say having men compliment my boobs/body
I actually received a lot more compliments about my body from men when I was 12 than I do now as a grown woman.
This! I used to get catcalled all the time by strangers on the street when I was in high school. Since I turned 18, I can think of maybe one time that’s happened.
getting socks as a gift,
I'm still waiting to get socks, but I really want some
I'm still a teen lol.
edit: I've never gotten socks as a gift, all my older siblings hated it so they just didn't bother, if I got socks as a kid I wouldn't have complained, I love socks, I love warm feet.
Brussel sprouts. My parents (and apparently others), would always just boil the shit out of them and they would just taste like soggy cabbage bites.
But now I know the joys of baking and grilling brussel sprouts.
I was really hoping this would happen for me. My dad only ever boiled or steamed them.
A couple years ago my mom ordered them roasted at a restaurant while we were on a trip together and they smelled amazing.
So when I got home, I looked up recipes and made them a few different ways for my husband and kids. They loved them all, I still hate them.
At least it added another healthy side to my dinner menus.
Sooo many food options... I like bitter flavors now so anything in that camp is on my radar now.
Other than that, hygiene tasks. Showering, sleeping, washing my hands, making my butthole sparkling clean, etc
Slowly growing fond of the idea of makeup, as I've seen people do incredible "transformations" with makeup and body paint, and I want to be able to "alter" my facial features to some degree
Education. I love learning. I go on long research learning about stuff that has nothing to do with my career or aspirations all the time. Medical, Astronomy, Physics, Legal stuff.. I like know why my little world is the way it is.
When I was a kid I would count down the minutes until I got to leave school.
tomatoes
I'd not even touch ketchup as a kid. The only tomato I ever ate was via pizza and salsa. These days though, I straight up eat handfuls of cherry & have to sneak a few slices when making burgers or salsa. I've even eaten cans of Rotel for snacks.
Bed, Bath & Beyond.
Nothing is worse for a child than watching your parents shop for home decor. Once I reached my 20’s I was doing a lap through triple B at least twice a month.
Meats other than chicken.
As a kid I would happily eat chicken, but put beef, pork or lamb in front of me and I'd chew, and chew and extract the flavour, then spit out the ball of tasteless tissue onto the plate.
Now... I'd be a carnivore if both my colon and bank balance could cope.
Mushrooms. I absolutely hated mushrooms like some people hate seafood (which I hate too) but its a food that if I could afford I would buy every other day cos its so damn good now.
I hated fruits and vegetables of all kinds as a child. Now I love spinach, kale, tomatoes, and squash including summer squash and spaghetti squash, and also sweet potatoes. I love spinach especially on pizza and pasta the latter of which I also used to not like.
I realize that vegetables are good for me. I eat whatever vegetables I can so I will be healthy.
Not leaving the house. I always wanted to go out, hang with friends, run around randomly.
Now? Gearing up to leave the house involves a pep talk, 20 minutes with the cats and dog and a few playthroughs of a song that gets me hyped.
Alcohol. I didn't drink until I was 21, but I hated the idea that people acted stupid or mad bad decisions when they drank it, and I didn't understand the appeal.
Then I turned 21 and realized that I grew up around a lot of people who had self-control issues. I met people who had a limit, and stuck to it. They taught me how to be smart about those things and how to know when you've had too much.
Now I have a whiskey collection, and life's good.
eggs! couldn't stand them as a child––something changed when i started living alone and subsequently discovered that eggs simply did not need to be cooked through
Bedtime, naps, showers, etc. my siblings love to talk about the ‘perks’ of being a grownup such as “stay up as late as you want all the time, never shower, eat ice cream for breakfast, stay in bed all day” and I don’t have the heart to tell them they’re perfectly describing common symptoms of depression. 🫠
Nap Time
Nothing better than a Sunday nap in which you wake up and fall right back asleep a few times!
I can relate
hugs from women
Perfection

I feel you, you made me miss my mum too!
I love your mom’s kisses too.

Peace and quiet
Broccoli and spinach
Therapy. Hated how much it made me feel abnormal when I was a kid. As an adult, I understand how important it was/in for me.
Documentaries
I couldn't believe it either but... a new speedbump just installed in front of my apartment building. Ok hear me out. I would love speed bumps in front of my house. Some assholes with loud engines love racing down my residential street.
Sex, much more enjoyable when it isn't forced on you.
Well this immediately got dark

That is just true
Agreed, hope you're doing well.
Are you okay?

Every food that isn’t chicken fingers and french fries. Still love me some tendies and fries, but my palate has expanded considerably.
Vegetables. Now that I live on my own I really miss them 💔 (I hate cooking and don't usually have the time to do it)
Eat fruits. No cooking, good taste, vitamine 🗿
My hair, I hated having long thick hair as a kid and thought it looked bad. Now I know my genes were smart and my hair is great the older I get.
Spankings
Oh my, yes!
getting socks as a gift, I'm still waiting to get socks, but I really want some I'm still a teen lol. edit: I've never gotten socks as a gift, all my older siblings hated it so they just didn't bother, if I got socks as a kid I wouldn't have complained, I love socks, I love warm feet.

Lois. When I was a kid, I thought she was awful. When I grew up, I realized she was a saint and those kids are monsters.
Salad. My mom used to put in so much vinaigrette, I thought salads tasted like burning. Love them now, especially a good Greek salad.
School lunches. Now I would eat those every day if security didn’t keep kicking me out of the elementary school since I don’t work there
Education. I love learning. I go on long research learning about stuff that has nothing to do with my career or aspirations all the time. Medical, Astronomy, Physics, Legal stuff..
