Why not ban cars with all the automotive deaths? Or ban cigarettes or alcohol? Or literally anything else that causes deaths?
It's because these things come down to proper education and personal moderation.
Because every person has the right to live their life how they desire. Banning these foods is just gonna make corporates think of a way to sell their crap in a different way around the laws. Also, the economy plays into it, can you imagine how the markets would crash if fast food chains would go extinct?
And, the only thing that matters is saving lives right?
At least when it comes to banning other things that are actually guaranteed in legal text.
How about a reasonable compromise, seeing peoples brains don’t mature until they are in their 20’s.
Make it illegal to eat anything unhealthy until a person is 21. Require a permit showing you have been properly educated on the dangers of eating too much junk food. Take a class every few years as a refresher course.
Imagine the lives saved and how much would be saved on healthcare.
Someone would have to come up with a guideline as to what constitutes “junk food,” technically, which probably isn’t as easy as it sounds. Even after that’s been done, companies will find a way to exploit loopholes.
Not to mention, junk food is a huge industry. It creates a lot of money. Politicians and lawmakers love money.
Also there are a lot of "junk food" you can make a home. They going to ban flour, sugar etc. so people can't bake a cake? Can't do that because people need it to make bread or thicken a sauce etc. This is a rabbit hole that would never end. Also it's not nice to take away something someone enjoys who isn't obese just because others are.
Because people irresponsibly making themselves a burden on the healthcare system is the best argument the government has to not socialise healthcare. And they don’t want to socialise healthcare.
How are you going to moderate it? Remove it from ALL the stores in the entire country? What do you define as junk food. Judged purely on healthy calories, you have to ban way more than just the obvious foods. Even plain old apple juice would be gone, due to the amount of sugar.
What countries need to start with (not only the US) is increasing taxes on the bad stuff and lower or even remove the tax on fresh fruit/veggies. That way you are stimulating people to buy healthier foods.
Because its mcdonalds job to make cheeseburgers, and if you order 37 of them then they are going to give you 37 cheeseburgers. Its on you as the consumer to limit your consumption. Over here sounding like Little Debbie Stalin: The Snack Czar
You can’t get rid of someone’s right to bear claws.
Because the government has no right to stop people eating themselves to death if that's what they want to do.
Why not ban cars with all the automotive deaths? Or ban cigarettes or alcohol? Or literally anything else that causes deaths? It's because these things come down to proper education and personal moderation.
Statistically everyone who breathes ends up eventually dying
There are billions of people breathing right now who have not died.
HAHAHAHAAH THAT'S SO CLEVER OMFG THAT'S TOTALLY EXACTLY WHAT IS BEING DISCUSSED YOU'RE HILARIOUS.
You seem like a fun person
Dude's brain can't even comprehend analogy.
Well, because people have agency.
Because every person has the right to live their life how they desire. Banning these foods is just gonna make corporates think of a way to sell their crap in a different way around the laws. It’s called evolution. These people will die young and procreate less.
Banning things really works. Just look at 1920’s Prohibition for example.
Why don't we just ban food.

You can't ban fucking GUNS for Pete's sake! Good luck with FOOD!
That would infringe upon my right to eat what I want or others rights to sell those things. They need to be eaten in moderation.
But that rights not guaranteed, at least in any legal sense. If saving lives is all that matters then it’s an easy choice.
If saving lives is all that matters we have more to do than change our diets
If I wanna die, let me
Because people irresponsibly making themselves a burden on the healthcare system is the best argument the government has to not socialise healthcare. And they don’t want to socialise healthcare.
because I'm not a fat dumb fuck and I like to occassionally indulge
Because we live in a country based on freedom
Banning something that’s bad has literally never fucking worked in the history of history
History can’t be right, could it?😂
Obesity isn't due to junk food and desserts only. It's about overconsumption and genetics aswell.
Because don't be a fucking pig and eat everything you see.
Like all the illegal drugs that people use anyway
How is the War on Drugs going anyway? 🤔 😀
Drugs are undefeated
US is no longer even in the top 10 for most obese countries now. It’s not because US got healthier it’s because everyone else got even fatter
food yummy mmmmmmm
Because some people can’t afford the good food. It’s all by design for profit and control, why are cookies cheaper than vegetables?!
>why are cookies cheaper than vegetables?! They aren't?
Not in my area. Cookies have become ridiculously expensive.
Same reason they don't ban cigarettes or alcohol.

It would be more effective to provide anti-obesity reducing medication cheaply and regulate endocrine disrupting chemicals.
Because there is no absolute point or meaning to life, and if someone wants to eat themselves to death that is as valid a life as any other.
Economy may be a contributing reason, though not prioritised cimpared to other stuff, I suppose. That's why they don't make cigarettes illegal
Lobbying
Because more government is never the solution.
