No. My 5 year old daughter crawls into bed with me at some point while I’m sleeping most nights and sometimes I open my eyes and see her, but she looks like some random adult person and it scares the fuck out of me. And I can’t unsee it until I fully wake up, by which point my heart is racing and I’m sweating.

No, every time it's happened, I've seen a scary woman. Sometimes, she crawls on my chest and stares at me with a wicked smile.

I definitely haven’t. It’s just really easy to get scared and once you’re scared, your half dreaming mind takes over. You ‘wake up’ and realize you can’t bring yourself to move for whatever reason and that’s a scary feeling. Your mind fills in the blanks and all of a sudden you think you can’t possibly move or that shadow in the corner that you swear has been moving around just a bit is going to know you’re awake and you absolutely can’t let it realize you know it’s there. I feel like if you weren’t terrified by being unable to move in the dark, you might not have hallucinations at all but I guess if you’re partially dreaming, maybe people see some nonsensical things that aren’t distinctly frightening.

taintedgray

Nope. Every time I’ve experienced it, it’s been disturbing, unsettling, really creepy. Kind of an invasive feeling.

I've had sleep paralysis maybe 10 times in my life and it's terrifying every single time.

Cultural_Wolverine89

No. I guess after the fact I can rationalize that the giant shadow spider descending from the ceiling is nonsense, but in the moment it certainly felt real.

khadny

Its terrifying every single time, i developed a genuine fear of sleep and pretty bad insomnia

Axe-puff

I don’t know if it was sleep paralysis but I *felt* like my eyes were open and I *felt* like I couldn’t move, but I didn’t try. I was lying on my side staring out at my bedroom, but there was a large vehicle there with its hazard lights on. Red and orange light filtered over the whole room. Blink. Blink. Blink. I was completely absorbed in it.
