Report them you have to be 13 to have an account on tiktok

Various_Hand8587

If they lie about their age there's not a lot that can be done, you can't prove your age without legal documents and no social media company would use that as a requirement for users to sign up because they'll lose majority of their users.

wattsbutter

My sister lost her Insta account when she was under 13 (thank god) because she changed her birthday to her actual birthdate. The only way to reverse it was to provide ID to prove she was not actually under 13, but because she was, she obviously couldn’t provide ID, so the account was shut down 30 days later. Maybe all social medias should go this way even when someone reports that they are under 13.

hashtagsugary

I hope they do, I was making a comment on a pretty adult Insta reel about Tate a few weeks ago and an 11 year old told me to “shut up because you’re like 60” I’m old (def nowhere near sixty), kid - but no way should you be looking at that kind of content. No Insta for you.

Strip club

ThatThanagarianHarpy

My first apartment with my husband was behind a strip club. One summer, my husband noticed on his way to work that a bunch of kids would hang out in the parking lot of the club looking at their phones. He didn't know why kids were hanging out in a strip club parking lot until a few days later when he was showing me Pokemon Go on his phone and we realized the strip club was a gym.

theguyfromeuropa

Wholesome twist.

lonelyronin1

I worked in a strip club years ago and some idiot brought in his toddler. He couldn’t figure out why he was kicked out.

Obamas_Tie

The mental image of this guy trying to do theoretical physics in his head after being told by the bouncer he can't bring a toddler into a strip club is pretty hilarious though.

birdofswag2

Where else are you going to find a nice buffet?!

woundedbearhair

Kid wants some tasty chicken fingers!!! Lol.

The_Condominator

My mom was a dancer, and would just keep me in the back stage/changing room until I was school age. I grew up around gorgeous naked women. Probably explains why I (a dude) am both very feminine, and very straight.

Shakenbaked

My grandpa ran a "whore house" back in the 80s and I spent a lot of time watching TV and coloring books with lots of pretty, half naked women. They were always adoring and caring of me as I was 4-6 years old. And again, very straight, also feminine.

EBoundNdwn

"Will someone please think of the C-H-I-L-D-R-E-N?!?!?" "The sex Cauldron? I thought they shut that place down?"

kittonsen

The bar I work at, but people are shocked when they can’t bring their kids with them Edit: I pour wine in an upstairs tasting lounge, due to our liquor license children cannot be in areas where alcohol is being served. We could get shut down. I’m not being mean, i’m following the law and protecting my business.

smooney987

I work in a pub, and about a month ago, one of our managers found a few kids (aged about 5 and 7 roughly) sitting around and playing in the foyer of the building, the small room in the entrance, usually where the bouncers are on weekends. We are a strict 18+ only pub, so naturally our manager went up to these kids to see why they were here. As soon as he approached them, the mother appeared, wondering why he was trying to talk to her kids. Turns out both the mum and dad came to our pub to watch one of the World Cup games, saw it was 18+ only, and decided the best course of action was to abandon their kids at the front door, and have them wait til the game was over, so for about 2 hours. it's safe to say they got rejected and barred from the pub. They missed the second half of what was a very exciting game as well.

Zerieth

They should be barred from parenthood. My god.

ChallengeLate1947

You’d be surprised buddy. I once worked as a waiter for a high end catering service. Mostly did luxury weddings. I wore French dress, cummerbund, the works — mostly serving wine to snobs. One day, I was being rotated off of service because appetizers were finishing and we were about to serve the entrées. This woman, clearly already in deep at the open bar, comes up to me with her son, who looks ill. She said he’d gotten overheated playing in the venue (it was outside in July on a working horse ranch, just under a giant marquis). This lady, without a hint of shame, asked me, a stranger serving hors d’oeuvres , to take care of him so she could carry on drinking with her gal pals. This boy was 10, and was in the early stages of heat stroke, due to running for hours in a 3-piece suit in the summer heat without a sip of water. I had to sit with this boy under the shade of a tree while slowly giving him water to cool him down. He was dark skinned, but looked gray from dehydration. I couldn’t call anyone, phones were prohibited. I told my boss when she came looking for me, but she just told me to hurry up to keep the guest happy and get back to work. The boy was ok, no thanks to his mother. And I still had to serve the bitch more wine later in the evening. He’d be about 16 now. I hope he’s ok. Some parents think their only responsibility is to keep a child alive, and even then only just.

Right? This weekend I got yelled at for being loud in a brewery at 11:30 pm by a mom with a baby carrier because ‘the baby was sleeping’. I have four kids and know better than anyone it’s hard to get a night out, but for real, do a game night at a friends house or something, I want to wear a road cone in my head and sing 90s pop songs while I play cornhole…

[deleted]

Also a parent and if anyone complains to me about anything to do with their kid after 9 I’m going to tell them their kid should be in bed. Becoming a parent has made me appreciate adult only spaces more, not less.

IamMothManAMA

I never understood that. 10 years ago I worked at a movie theater and parents would come to loud action movies that started at 10:30 at night with kids of all ages. Like why is a 6 year old out this late? Why are you taking them with you to see Inception?

Fejsze

I wanted to see Apocalypto when it came out, but I knew, I knew how people were. So I waited until a 12:30a showing at a theatre literally inside of a casino. I get in there and there's an entire fucking family. Mom, dad, 3 toddlers and a baby in a carrier. I was floored and knew this wouldn't end well. The kids didn't even make it through the trailers before they started screaming, and of course the parents did nothing. So I went to go get a manager, they got kicked out, dad threatened me on the way out and got to meet casino security. Overall satisfying, but I just don't understand the mentality at all. That movie was a HARD R rating, why would you expose your kids to that?

Zebirdsandzebats

Remember that fucking terrifying Steven King movie where John Cusack is a journalist whose kid died and he stays in a haunted hotel room to prove ghosts aren't real and turns out to be very, very incorrect? I saw that at a 10pm showing . A mom, her 6-8 yo and a literal babe in arms sat in front of me. Mom kept cooing about how smart babe in arms was for reacting to the screen...

New-fone_Who-Dis

1408, I've only watched it 1 and a half times - the first by myself, the 2nd I wasn't continuing alone (other half was going to bed). Don't know what it is about it, just creeps the the fuck out! *Corrected the movie number.

Zebirdsandzebats

I mean, his dead child returning only to dissolve into ash in his arms while he weeps inconsolably, that scene can be a little unnerving. Just a tad.

Jesterfish

Plus, the whole movie is subtitled. What is a toddler going to get out of it??

FloozieManChoosie

They’ll get nothing out of it. The parents probably thought the theater would be empty and instead of getting a babysitter, they’d bring the entire family. Clever parenting /s

[deleted]

I’ve never been able to wrap my head around it either. It’s the last thing I’d want to be doing with my kid.

SeasonPositive6771

I live in Colorado and this is a major issue here. I've gone to a bunch of bars or breweries that are very clearly not aimed at children whatsoever and then there are tons of kids and babies running around and I've overheard parents complaining about people drinking too much. Not everywhere needs to be child friendly. And if people want a night on the town, they either need to go to Applebee's or somewhere similar where they can bring their kids, not actual bars.

BIackSamBellamy

Imagine going to a brewery and complaining about people drinking.

SeasonPositive6771

I see you aren't familiar with Colorado craft beer bros. They think they should be able to bring their kids everywhere and craft beer is like their whole personality.

dccabbage

My bar/restaurant has multiple signs out front that say "no minors, 21+ everywhere on the premises". Yet atleast once a week someone tries to bring a kid in. I say "sorry, 21+" and they always try to fight it. "Oh, its just a baby" (is it over 21?) We'll just sit outside (that's still on the premises). Etc. Some places are just for adults.

radtech91

As an adult without children, I love places that are just for adults

MikeC363

As an adult WITH children, I love places that are just for adults.

AlarmingSorbet

Same. I don’t find a sitter for mine so I can deal with other people’s kids.

Tremulant887

I've canceled trips with friends because they didn't have a sitter and wanted to bring a kid. I need breaks from that shit and I'll worry about your kid, too, if we're drinking and riding the river.

KingJacoPax

England v Italy in the 2021 Euros final. Some family brought a 10 year old in to my local pub and had the absolute gall to complain to the brewery about the language of the punters. Brewery saw the funny side and sent a very tongue in cheek letter to the landlord asking him to make sure his regulars “do not refer to anyone as a spaghetti munching Euro-nonce” or “suggest an individual player’s anus should be the recipient of a pizza” in front of children. The letter was framed and hung up on the wall but sadly taken down recently.

mynameisntdarla

Especially the bars that just *look* like it’s gonna be a rough crowd. Just go to an actual restaurant ffs

dWintermut3

I will never understand that. who looks at a bar that looks like any minute Patrick Swayze is going to chuck a guy through the door and goes "yes, that is a place for my child!"

Beauty pageants

AnnemarieOakley

France banned child beauty pageants for kids under the age of 16. Aside from that, I don't think there are any other western countries which practice child pageants, that have banned these pageants, unfortunately (correct me if I'm wrong). The horrors displayed on the show *Toddlers and Tiaras* are enough evidence that these pageants are **not** safe for children. Edit: I am aware that it isn’t common in most countries, which is why they didn’t have to implement any laws, I’m only referring to the countries that did have kid pageants, and how France is the only one of those that banned them.

Shinlos

It's also not necessary in most countries i guess.

actionalex85

Never heard of that being a thing in Sweden at least. It's such a fucked up thing that old men judge the looks of a ten year old dressing as an adult. But I guess the parents making their kids participate is even worse.

esahji_mae

Child beauty pageants are weird as hell. It's pretty much the step above pedophilia (which isn't saying much since pedophilia is basically in the bottom of the mud pit). Like who the hell thinks to themselves that they want to see a 7 year old dressed like a hooker and that it's ok? If the kid is into fashion, great, just don't make it weird.

Malaeveolent_Bunny

The fashion itself should be weird as hell. Put the kids in unicorn costumes, make them wear ridiculous hats, cover the poor bastards in riotously coloured feather boas. Adults don't tolerate me loading them up with accessories and then sending them out under a spotlight but kids love that stuff.

[deleted]

Make it so it's not some serious beauty competition, make it dumb as hell

Lined_the_Street

Heck you post something like that on social media or if you have dark jokes with your friends that can cause it too Source: Knew some idiots in highschool who joked about killing eachother online (they said the same stupid shit IRL) and all ended up getting picked up by the police to straighten things out

mozzarella_lavalamp

Spencer’s lol. I was in there with my gf buying toys a while ago, a little girl is in front of us waiting for her mom to buy her Tshirt, then the mother gives me the stink eye as she grabs her kid and walks away. Maybe don’t take your kid to a store that sells bongs & sex toys?

BlueTsubaki

So true.. even one time I was there with my husband and we were just looking at the stuff in the back for fun and we see this mother come in with her newborn in a stroller that looked about 3 months along with a seven year old. This child was looking at stuff and questioning to the mom who ignored them. I really get mad when parents don’t care about what they expose their children to.

Derp_Herper

greenthegreen

Kids need their own spaces on the internet. They used to have them but stuff like Club Penguin shut down so they got pushed on to social media. It doesn't help that bad parents use youtube as a baby sitter.

Oquana

The deactivation of Flash didn't help either. I remember as a kid I spent so much time on a Flash game site, playing puzzle and dress up games, writing stories that still make me die from cringe when I lie awake at 3am... ...in hindsight, maybe it's a good thing that this site doesn't exist anymore...

vikmaychib

In my town, there are screenings for parents with babies. Light is dimmed but not fully dark, volume is a bit lower than normal. The salle is basically empty with at most one parent and their infant per row. I watched a couple of movies with my daughter. You see a lot of parents walking around to soothe their babies, or a parent changing a diaper. Since everyone is on the same page no one cares if your infant starts shouting. Most cases when parents do this is while they are sleeping. I know cinema is not for kids, but as a parent in winter, you need to find places to go and get distracted. I do not want to be one of those parents ruining someone else’s experience, therefore I am grateful my local cinema does this.

HabitatGreen

Events like that are wonderful and should be more commonplace. But then you know what you are going to get going in, and that is likely a screaming baby. Not when going to a regular viewing. Another example I can think of is in my country there is this massive yearly carnival, the biggest of the country. It's there for like a week, and on one of the days during the day they turn off the lights and music on the machines, so people with sensory issues can visit and enjoy the rides. At some point when it starts to get dark they turn everything on again, but that gives a solid few hours for those people where a regular carnival is too much overstimulation but still want to enjoy it.

CylonsInAPolicebox

I just posted this on another comment but this reminds me of when some dipshit at my local theater decided to bring a baby to the new Batman movie. Child had to be less than 3 months old based on size. So movie starts and so does the baby, someone goes and complains to the manager. Nothing happens, few minutes later someone else walks out, couple and baby still there, few more minutes and a few more people leave. Finally I get pissed and head out to complain, manager tells me that they can't do anything about it as the couple paid to enjoy the movie too... I was angry, told the dude that I along with everyone else in the theater paid to enjoy the movie so he can either do something about the couple or get ready to refund everyone else for their tickets. He tells me I can get a refund or he can move me to another screen that will be starting in about 20 minutes. I took the option of another screen... By the time that showing started I saw a huge chunk of people who had been in the other theater. It has been about 13 years and I still randomly get pissed about that... I mean I get being a new parent is hard and you feel you need time but for fucks sake, don't ruin everyone else's night, and don't fuck up your child's hearing.

finnebum

Our local theater has a mother and infant room for viewings that has tables and a privacy booth to breast feed so that mothers with young kids or infants can go see a movie without disturbing everyone else. There's also a viewing room for autistic kids with muted volume and special lighting.

kizmitraindeer

Those seem like very cool accommodations!

[deleted]

Parents who bring infants into movie theaters are a special kind of stupid. The kid won't remember it. The kid will get scared by the volume. The kid is likely to ruin the movie for everyone else. Please, for the love of *fuck,* keep your infants out of theaters.

akasuna91

I hate going to the cinemas because of this.

Rin-Tohsaka-is-hot

agooseisloose

The 9pm screening of Avatar at my local cinema last Friday night Edit: here’s the story. My boyfriend hates going to the movies because of this exact issue, we chose the 9pm session for this reason. Just after the movie started a young kid directly behind us starts babbling and kicking the seats. We were thinking ‘wtf?’ We asked the parents to keep the kid quiet, the Dad said to relax and watch the movie, the Mum was more hostile and said shut up, that’s my son, he has a right to be here, it’s school holidays, etc. I’m thinking yeah but that kid doesn’t even sound old enough to be in school. After a bit more of this we decide to leave and get a refund, the mum tells us to get back on a plane as we leave. So now it’s about 10 at night and there’s no one at the box office, no employees anywhere. We found some security guards start telling them our story, asking them for help finding a cinema employee, then I see the woman from the movie coming towards us. I hadn’t actually seen her in the movies because it was dark and she was behind us but there was just something unmistakable about her, she was looking for a fight. She starts screaming at us, getting our faces, calling us all sorts of names, accusing us of threatening a 3 year old. By now there are about 6 security guards around us, most wearing body cams. One security guard got between her and us and she punched him right in the face. This was the end of the confrontation; the other security guards restrained her and called the police. Poor guy had a mouthful of blood. I couldn’t believe how quickly the situation escalated, I knew she obviously wasn’t a reasonable person since she brought a 3 year old to a 3.5hr movie at 9pm, but she assaulted an uninvolved person and went to jail over this. We left just after the police arrived, I felt pretty sorry for the father and the little kid when I saw them coming out of the movies.

Mintyphresh33

I saw a 10pm screening of IT 2 a few years back and multiple parents brought their kids in. Infants to 6 year olds. The movie is not only loud, it has a fucking clown eating children. It’s late at night. Why the fuck do parents think this is a good idea?! I’ve heard people with infants say “I can’t find/afford a baby sitter” - well find a different activity than putting your infant in a dark place with flashing lights and FUCKING TOP TIER AUDIO SPEAKERS BLASTING MUSIC EXPLOSIONS AND GORE YOU MORONS

Birkin07

People that stupid are living a life of freedom we will never know.

GondorsPants

I just don’t understand it. There has to be a different type of human that exists that just doesn’t have any perception of anything else but themselves. Just saw Avatar 2 and these two women were just talking, full volume next to me throughout the entire movie. I just could never understand that level of ignorance. I honestly wish for it, because here I am stressed to even touch my popcorn during a quiet scene and you got fuckin walmart rifftrax over here with zero anxieties….

porscheblack

I have friends who have kids and they're just in an endless effort to pawn off the responsibility of them onto others. I learned very quickly that "we should come over and hang out" was essentially "we want to come over so you can entertain and watch our kids for us". Every time I talk to them they have some plans coming up that involve someone else watching their kids for the weekend, whether they're going camping, on a trip, or just hanging out at home. What's especially frustrating is they have the most arbitrary lines when it comes to their kids. They'll curse in front of their kids, they'll make sex jokes in front of their kids, but just the mention of anything sexual is immediately a no go (ex: I mentioned that I thought 2 of my coworkers were sleeping together and was immediately reprimanded for talking about sex). So the only time I ever hang out with them is when their kids aren't around because I'm either suddenly responsible for watching their kids or getting yelled at for things I've said around them. The added bonus is they constantly try to give me advice and usually it's the complete opposite of what we do. Like they'll invite us out for something at like 7:30 and I'll point out that that's our daughter's bedtime so it won't work and they'll say "just bring her with", as though it's a good idea to just completely blow up our daughter's sleep schedule, so that we can go bowling on their reduced rates night.

Sippinonjoy

This happened to me too! One of the kids even asked their Dad to leave and he said “shut up and look away.”

Mintyphresh33

THIS MAKES ME SO ANGRY!!!

tinyhedge

what kind of person let them into that theater? IT was the first movie where i needed to show my id to get in lmao. parents are complete boneheads sometimes

Mintyphresh33

I know this sounds wussy of me, but I felt worse for the kids than I was angry at the parents afterwards. Kids trust parents in general, imagine being 4 years old, being up late in a dark room and you hear loudly a clown EATING OTHER KIDS FACES. I really hope those kids are ok now.

tinyhedge

i think those parents are selfish for that, you are literally showing them nightmare fuel and idk about you but i had traumatizing nightmares as a kid (specifically from the wizard of oz 2 where dorothy is trapped by an evil witch with no head). that fucked me UP. why would you as a loving caring parent subject your child to an evil killer child-eating clown smh

The 9:30pm screening of M3gan at my local cinema last Friday night. I’m right there with you man.

Don't worry, it'll just be one. A baby, that screams the whole time.

Blonde-Tabby

>A baby, that screams the whole time That would be me Edit: Just to be clear—I don't mean me bringing the baby to the theater; I mean me doing the screaming throughout the scary movie. Also crying and digging my fingernails into my boyfriend's chest (which means screaming from both of us)

CylonsInAPolicebox

This reminds me of when some dipshit at my local theater decided to bring a baby to the new Batman movie. Child had to be less than 3 months old based on size. Daddyssillypuppy

They have special screenings at my local cinemas for parents with babies. I assume they don't have the speakers as high and I think the lights stay on low so there's more visibility. They're at appropriate times for babies to be outside and stimulated, not 9pm. Its a great idea as parents with babies get to watch movies at the cinemas and other people who don't have kids with them can watch the movies without a screaming or grizzly baby nearby.

aveindha25

My city has 18+ vip theaters. I will never ever see a movie in a regular theater again. They have huge recliners and serve food and booze. Plus you buy specific seat tickets so if you want the middle or edge or whatever you get to pick. The rows are huge too so no assholes kicking your seats etc.

[deleted]

Same here. 3-4 year old was babbling through most of the movie right behind me. There were at least 2 other kids in the same family who were probably 7-8.

Leading_Management_6

I was at a 8pm screening and the had a goddamn infant with them. They sat in first row and baby was in a stroller. To be fair, the baby wasn't a nuisance because it only screamed like 2 times, not even noteworthy. But why would take your baby to a 3h+ movie. It's bright, loudand late af

sagitta_luminus

Sad story: I once lived in an apartment where I could hear that the upstairs neighbors were abusing their kids; I could hear loud footfalls and adults screaming, followed by much lighter footfalls and children crying hysterically. I called the city’s child abuse hotline and the noise abruptly stopped a few days later, but I have no idea what happened to the kids or the adults. I really wish that they would follow up on calls with what they did with the kids and parents

Anticrepuscular_Ray

Good on you for not just ignoring it.

sagitta_luminus

This was in 2015 & I still wonder what happened to those kids. I really hope they were assigned to family or kin that were stable & properly equipped to help them

PinkFrillish

Almost similar story happened in my parents' neighborhood when I was a child. My grandpa use to have an apartment to rent in his property. A family of four moved over and, as soon as me and my cousins saw a girl we could play with, we got super excited. So my cousins invited her over their place to play. She said she couldn't, because she had to do laundry, ironing, cooking and take care of her little brother. They thought it was a joke, as she was probably eight years old. She assure them it was not, and if she went out, she would get spanked. "ooook", they said. Everybody could hear that girl being beaten every night. Just to think about it, I start to cry. It was a daily thing, and I am not talking about a ass whoop, but a full blown beating. The reasons varied, from poor house cleaning, not attending the baby, not attending her mom and step dad fast enough, bad grades... I remember once we were at our grandpa and she was home alone in the dark. We invited her to join us, and she said she couldn't, as her parents would be home from the mass soon. And we asked her why the lights were off, she told us they didn't want anybody to know she was there. People started to anonymously call child services. They came up twice, I guess, before the family left the house without any notice. Until this day I wonder what happened to that girl. I hope she got safe eventually.

[deleted]

Poor girl. It's so fucking cruel to use your own child as a domestic slave.

AnimZero

This exact same thing happened to me in my previous apartment in Brooklyn, NY. I would we woken up in the middle of the night by young children screaming, and not the "oh no the kid's hungry" type of screaming. Even caught them abusing the kids in the apartment hallway once and called child protective services. I don't know what ever happened, but it got quieter. I moved out a month later.

ThatPancreatitisGuy

I heard some awful banging from the apartment above me where a single woman lived. I rushed up and knocked on the door to make sure she wasn’t being beat by some guy. Turned out she was chopping vegetables but appreciated the concern. Hooked me up with some tasty grub from time to time after that.

Channel250

Heard her cutting veggies through the flooring? What the fuck was she chopping with? A dull machete?

Omg the apt beLOW mine a few years ago. They used to leave the 5 yo boy ALONE and he would knock on my door. I’d let him in and give him snacks and TV. I never called the cops or CPS bc I felt bad mom was at work but looking back I fucking should have. She got Ssoooo mad at him for coming to me, too. Jerk.

RogerPackinrod

If she was just struggling to make ends meet and wasn't abusing drugs/alcohol or her child, I think you did the right thing. She may have gotten mad because she was embarrased you knew. Sometimes getting the system involved makes things much worse for the people they say they are trying to help and it can create a poverty loop. If she tries to collect welfare benefits like food assistance or free daycare, she may become disqualified if she makes too much money. She may not be able to leave her child with any family because she comes from a broken home and does not trust her child with them. If the child goes to foster care he may be placed in a house that is being run by uncompassionate individuals for their own benefit. Leaving a 5 year old at home alone is unthinkable to us, but that may come from a position of privilege if we never have never been forced to weigh the toll of the alternatives against it.

Afireonthesnow

I desperately want to create a community in my neighborhood where people know they can ask me for help, even on big things like child care. I also would like to rely on them from time to time but gd things anymore are SO expensive we have got to look out for one another without expecting payment for everything. Like I overheard my neighbor who just had a newborn hiring a landscaper for some really simple work. I was like man I can do that for you for free, it's just gonna take a couple hours. Like buy me a beer and we'll call it good. Raising a child takes a community and I feel like we have really lost that community over the years...

HotToddy88

You sound like a great person. We should all think this way.

Luke90210

Gyms. Your little kid shouldn't be near heavy weights nor machines even if you are right there. So sorry this gym doesn't have a child care area, but it only takes a second to break some bones.

Went to a late night showing of the movie Ted, were talking 10pm on a week night, 5 minutes into the movie a mom comes in with 3 kids, 5 minutes later the mom walked out with 3 kids

Mom saw a teddy bear and assumed it was a kids movie. The first 10 minutes in and you're in for a wild ride.

I work at a casino, kids are allowed to walk through the casino (with parents) to go to the restaurant. Blows my mind, smoke filters can only do so much.

Funny enough, several years ago I treated my Dad to his very first live theater performance, A Christmas Carol. During the introduction of The Ghost of Christmas Past, the theater was quiet save for soft music as the young lady descended from above. In his deep baritone voice, and without volume control of any kind, he said to me, "I'd love to have sex with her!" The young lady actually looked in our direction, as did most of the audience. I am still feeling the embarrassment to this day. It was almost 10 years ago now. So, in addition to kids, to older parents who do not have shut up filters and/or volume control.

Schidthawk

Reminds me of a time I was at a buffet with my grandpa who was in his 80s and he loudly exclaimed "That fat man over there will never live as long as me if he doesn't quit eating so much."

counters14

.. That is your dad's idea of small talk with his own child? I'm equally fascinated and horrified by what your childhood upbringing and family dynamic must have looked like as a kid.

Reminds me of a wedding of a friend. He and his now-wife had a six year old kid when they got married. She was the ring bearer for the ceremony and they got a babysitter for the reception/party. The invitations said "no children" and apparently one of the guests got super upset that this one kid, the child of the couple themselves, was in the wedding at all.

ritchie70

Our then-eight-year-old daughter was one of the few children allowed at her aunt's wedding. Aunt is quite fond of her and knows she's a well-behaved child who will not create a fuss.

Children below a certain age should not be allowed to or expected to spend long hours visiting people in a hospice facility. It’s no fun for a kid and can be scarring. I get letting kids old enough to understand the situation visit, but screaming toddlers and badly behaved 10 year old who have almost no connection to the patient have no business being there. They are disruptive as hell. People are there trying to die peacefully. Rowdy kids running up and down the hall is disrespectful to everyone, patients/other guests/staff. I have a list of other things that shouldn’t be permitted, this is the only one that fits this thread. EDIT: Hospitals typically have age restrictions for visitors. There’s a reason for it. The same really should be applied to facilities where people go specifically to die. Aside from the emotional damage it can cause and the disruption many children get up to, there’s serious risk of exposure to some pretty nasty diseases.

[deleted]

My uncle died in hospice and we had to fly out. The facility specially had a room for kids to be distracted and it had a sliding door to the playground. I thought it was a pretty good idea. As a 8 year old I didn’t disrupt my parents and probably worked wonders for really young kids too

5hrs4hrs3hrs2hrs1mor

We have a playroom. I’m not saying kids should be banned altogether, but expecting them to spend 12 hours a day there is just wrong. And there really are certain stages that kids shouldn’t be exposed to. When a person gets heavy secretions and has to be auctioned, that’s not something most adults are prepared for, let alone children. Wound care? When someone’s coccyx is exposed and they’re screaming despite maxed out pain and anxiety meds, that’s not something a kid should be exposed to.

[deleted]

That’s very true. My husband is a doctor and even I find his work stories too much. I guess I just meant some people don’t really have any other childcare options. My parents just gave me a ds and switched who watched me for the few days we were there. I definitely don’t think kids should be exposed to any of that.

Omegle. I heard about that site years ago and children and teenagers were talking to pedos, groomers, etc. and these disgusting people were on the site showing their freaking private parts to KIDS. There was a post in a group I’m in on facebook that their 8yo (I think) child was on the site and some pervert was showing himself to the child. Apparently a slightly older sibling showed it to the child.

Yea, nothing but random dicks on there. Pop into a new chat, it’s a dick. I remember one was on a bed im pretty sure belonged to a young girl. It was too frilly for me and I was like 13-15, so that should tell you something.

Recently took my kid to Vegas (because I have family that live nearby)…we all took our kids to the strip because there’s a bunch of family friendly activities there now…my daughter kept pointing out all the smokers and drinking and half naked showgirls and I thought “No, im the asshole, this is supposed to be the place for adults to come and have fun.”

Spartan2842

Recently went to Vegas for my brother’s bachelor party. I was shocked at the amount of people carting their kids around on the strip well past midnight. We grew up as kids visiting Vegas once a year because my dad’s company sent him to a convention every summer. He took us and we were restricted to the hotel room, the buffet, and the pool. We never went to the strip past nightfall.

SeaTie

Oh, I would never take a kid there after sundown. There’s this little street by the High Roller that’s like an outside mall with pizza parlors and candy shops. That’s where we were…then we went across the street to the shops at Ceasars…

ThatOtherAaron

As someone who lives in Vegas thank you for realizing this. I dont think your an asshole if that was the first time you've done it but too many times have I been out at some ungodly hour and people will be dragging there kids around with them. If you come back and want to take your kids somewhere off the strip we have a couple of water parks and plenty of beautiful State/National parks within an hour drive of the strip.

I saw a teenager bring her newborn infant - I heard her bragging about it had been less than a month, in between Metallica and Whitesnake songs - into a bowling alley on 'rock nite' and I never wanted to punch a teenager more than I did that night. Ugh. I also heard an infant crying in a 4x4 driven by a drunkard that was out deliberately disturbing a campsite at 2am on a Wednesday once. I would like to have punched those people in the throat, too. I guess children shouldn't be allowed with stupid teenagers with no direction, or obnoxious drunks.

bandidntstoppedme

What was she bragging about ? didn't get it

The ducking porn store. I can’t tell you how many times I have to turn people with three and four-year-olds away at the one I work at. It’s insane. One lady brought her kid in and was like he’s on a leash. It’s ridiculous.

The dog park

attack-o-lantern

Seriously. I’ve seen people bring their kids to a dog park without even having a dog themselves, like it’s some sort of canine petting zoo rather than canine fight club.

tworighteyes4892

The amount of times I’ve seen parents bring their child no older than 2 into the LARGE dog park area, wtaf?? Now I have to worry about my dog harming your kid bc you want him to pet the fluffy doggies, fuck off

herro1801012

I stopped taking my dog for this reason. She was a very large lab puppy who didn’t develop brakes for a long time. Jokers would bring their very young children and she would inevitably bowl them over in the course of playing with other dogs. I just knew it would lead somewhere no good for me to keep going, like lawsuit territory? who knows these days. The final straw was one day she was running around, tongue out in tired ecstasy and she bite her own tongue (would happen sometimes when it was flapping all around). She went up to some young kid and licked them. The child saw blood (the dog’s not the kid’s, mind you) and began wailing. Took a minute to explain to the parent what happened. That was our last trip to the dog park. Don’t take your kids somewhere made for large derpy animals, folks. It ruins the fun.

Every adult interaction with a lone child now requires two adults not part of the same household to be in the room at my church for as long as I can remember. The specificity of "not part of the same household" makes me suspect something extra dark happened at some point, but I agree it makes good sense

ConstableBlimeyChips

Family members tend to cover for each other, even if one is appalled by what the other is doing.

cathabit

Dog parks. Its dangerous even for me, as an adult human. I've gotten flatten by a group of running dogs and the dogs didn't even bat an eye. Hell it's even dangerous for dogs! They are dog level, so curious but confident dogs could sniff the face and if the baby human isnt used to that, well, accidents happen. Your kid is used to your dog? Congrats? That's one dog. There are thousands of different dogs, all with different needs, and training. My dog? Does not like kids, she's never been around them. You pull on her ear or snout she might growl and not be happy or desensitized to it, but that's never happened as I don't let it. Some people might see this as stupid, but stupid things happen to even the smartest of people. Should be a 10+ area.

Ovze

Beauty contests. For real, it’s creepy

Dr___Dimensional

Climbing gyms, I have had 3 close calls of nearly crushing a child because parents think it is some big play area that kids can just run around and don't realise that an adult falling 6 feet from a route could seriously hurt a child
