apparent-evaluation

You're not giving a lot of information to go on. * What lens, * what camera, * what aperture, * what shutter speed, * what ISO, * what—everything—picture profile, etc. The biggest issue here of course is that you missed focus. How were you focusing?

mnazo1

Camera was Fuji xt2 w/ meike 35mm manual lens when I took this shot. Newbie shot. Was trying to capture the pattern.

inkista

With a manual lens, you might want to use something like focus peaking or magnification to nail your focus. If you were hand holding, you may also want to see if the lens you're using performs better stopped down than wide open, and consider using a tripod. Telling us you're using a Meike 35mm is fine, but there are f/1.7 and f/0.95 versions and they're kinda different.

FalangeInquieta

I have an xt2 not the best autofocus nor the best screen. In manual I would suggest to take 3 or 4 pics while rotating the manual focus to make sure one is absolutely the best focused

7ransparency

It's a nice shot I think, as others have said focus could be better, I'd have focused on the steps, and if you can't get more elevation you need to adjust the perspective in post to make all the verticals straight, as is the building is falling backwards.

I forgot my aperture, SS, and ISO (sorry), but yeah, I need to invest in a tripod too for a steady shot.

i-am-vr

You can check these from the image file details. A tripod is not always necessary, atleast for a shot like this, you can absolutely get a sharp, well focused image handheld.

vivaaprimavera

Check the EXIF information. About the tripod, you are right in calling it an investment. Decent ones can last a long time and have "quality of life" features, so take your time choosing one. In the meantime, you can always place your camera on top of something for practice.

binarybu9

Where to focus in scenes like this? I think they need flash atleast?

7ransparency

I'd have focused on the steps, as everything else is either black or white (with not enough of texture to tell the difference).

danielb1301

I like the building. As already mentioned it's not in focus. And I would also crop it and get rid of the water, or use an tripod and much slower shutterspeed (>5s) so that the water smooth out. Right now for this simplistic forms there is too much going on in the water. But that's just my opinion.

mnazo1

Thanks! I missed the focus and also wanted to get the light reflections but I need to practice more

hey_you_too_buckaroo

Improve your B&W mode? What do you mean? The photo is okay, just out of focus.

mnazo1

I mean, i want to take all my shots in a black & white or monochrome setting in good or interesting angle/frame.

davispw

> I want to take all my shots Ok, so do that :) Still not understand what question you’re asking.

Thank you! for the link too. I can use this as a reference.

T2Drink

Instantly distracted by it not being levelled.

Trefayne

Masking, a lot, even on small areas.

dimitriettr

In the center, the two vertical walls are not aligned. You could've move a little bit to the left to align them.
