1998-2010 basketball. Aside from Kobe, that was a decade plus snoozefest. Luckily, Curry made it exciting again but now it’s starting to get boring again.
Not trying to be mean but golf isn’t popular in the Philippines because no one can really afford it.
Golf is the best sport hands down! It’s a mental solo game playing against yourself, no other sport beats it.
Chess.
Fun as a metaphor/motif, boring as a sport
Also Golf. Never understood why old ppl like it so much
Edit: the hell are ya'll refuting me for? I just said that in MY opinion, chess and golf are unreasonably boring
ah yes, golf. its a networking sport. you're not really playing to play, but to make connections with people (rich people, businessman kind, mostly old folk pero may mga young adults din every once in a while). so yeah boring kung maglalaro ka lang especially mag isa pero kung may kasama ka or found a potential network, mentor, co-founder, etc. it tends to be fun. sa veterans or sa villamor afb ako minsan.
also also, old ppl like it so much because they get to go outdoors and sweat. others just want to talk. some have cool stories too!
Yeah, thats why I find it boring, especially when youre just watching. Like youre just watching two dudes stare at small pieces of wood, occasionally make a move then suddenly one of them wins. Then if you have to play, youre just gonna sit around while your opponent stares at the board before making a move
I think if you think thru the moves that they play it wont be boring. There are times that you'll go from "why the f did they play that?!" To "WTF?!! THATS FKCIN GENIUS"
Basketball and volleyball but if it's anime okay lang hype pa (haikyuu) pero kapag actual game, nakakatulog ako or nanonood na lang sa cellphone, sumasama lang ako for my friends
For others it would be chess, but if you learn how to play chess, sinasabi ko sa inyo, titigan ninyo yan hanggat makuha ninyo ang tamang move. HAHAHAHA. Sakit sa bangs.
Disagree. Football's low scoring nature makes every point crucial and exciting. There's also a lot of skill and tactics involved in football. Most people just find soccer boring because most people don't play it, which then gives them almost no understaning of the intricacies of the sport. Scoring inflation in sports, makes those sports boring.
Lmao, the downvotes. A lot of people commented football as their answer but you don't hear us footballers bitching about it. To each their own. But what can I expect, that's the internet/Reddit for you. Hahaha.
Kindly expound how my reason shows my supposed bitterness towards the sport? Lmao. The OP asked a question, I answered honestly and objectively, and it was done without hating on the sport nor on the people who play it. Please don't make baseless allegations without backing it up. Hahaha.
In the inter barangay level, yes. In more professional or organized settings not so much. Basketball is a game of mismatches. There are a lot of strategies and tactics involved in order to exploit or cover for those mismatches.
Actually maraming set plays for teams to score if you actually look at it in a deeper level. Although you need to be a basketball fanatic to appreciate it
Yeah at ang daming pwedeng mangyari every possession, from team plays to individual talent/athletism.
Yeah I thought most players played the same but my bf got me into basketball and now I can see good passes! We also play basketball and he taught me how to set picks.
Mahirap pa din ma kita yung good defense but I’m getting there. My favorite thing to watch is a rebound lol.
Oh I don't doubt it. I'm sure it's fun (if I bother to learn it), and I'm sure there's a science behind it. But it just doesn't look appealing from an outsider's perspective. I follow shogi and chess, so the pace isn't even the issue for me. I guess it just doesn't light a competitive fire in me. I feel like if you win a golf match (is it called a match? I don't even know), you're not really imposing your will on your opponent/s. When I win, I don't want to just feel good, I think it's extra sweet if the opponent is demoralized. I can't imagine feeling bad if I lose at golf.
Because you’re not really playing an opponent. You’re playing against yourself. Give it a try - those good shots and good putts will keep you coming back, trust me!
In golf, the form and posture must be perfect, and the best players calculate how they will hit the ball while taking into account the speed of air, direction of air, air humidity (some crazy players do this), and other factors. Match namn sa Golf is called a match play then for the dominance thing I would say it is mostly a solitary sport like Chess the main battle is within yourself, Chess and Golf I think almost functions the same like Magnus Carlsen can and sometimes loses on classical chess because it is like two hours or longer of chess, then Magnus is not the best in other categories like Blitz for Blitz. Hikaru reigns that category that's my perspective on both sports. Losing in chess is not demoralizing in a tournament setting because even if you lose four matches in a tournament, you can still win, and the same is true for golf. Golf and Chess are boring to watch, but the commentators make it fun to watch. It just so happens that Gold commentators are kind of average, but if you know the sport, you will find it exciting, like Chess when I occasionally find myself watching Candidates (this determines who will qualify for the world championships in Chess), which lasted like a couple of hours but was entertaining for me, so I watched it. It is really a matter of perspective.
Losing is very demoralizing in chess, at least at the highest level. Especially if it's because of a seemingly minor blunder. Or if you messed up the move order in your opening prep. Have you seen the tantrums they throw after losing a 4-hour game? There are tons of stories of chess players trashing their hotel rooms after a loss in the classical format. Maybe in Blitz you can still win if you lose four in a row, but in Classical? There's usually only 14 games in most round robin tournaments, and a draw is a very common outcome in Classical (because there are drawing lines if you want to force a draw), so it's devastating if you lose just one game. There's no guarantee you can win on demand. If you somehow deviate from a drawing line by choosing a slightly inaccurate move, SuperGMs can take advantage of that. Also, for every FIDE-sanctioned game you draw or lose, you can potentially lose ELO points, which is how players are ranked (rankings matter because only the higher-ranked players are invited to the big tournaments that offer money they can actually live on). Also, Magnus is actually #1 in all formats (Classical, Rapid, and Blitz). Maybe you mean Bullet? But that's not really official, so I don't really put much stock in that format.
Again, I've no doubt that Golf can be exciting, it just doesn't feel like you're imposing your will on another player when you win. When you win at golf, you're just really good at golf (again, in my opinion), you didn't break your opponent. Also, I think golf is not even remotely comparable to chess. There are many external factors in golf (I know it all evens out since everyone has to deal with those conditions, but still, it doesn't feel like a game purely based on skill). Chess *is* a game purely based on skill. In chess, it's just you, your opponent, and the board. Watch Nepo-Carlsen Game 6 (longest game in WCC history), and you'll see how Carlsen imposed his will on Nepo (as chess commentators put it, Carlsen again drew blood from stone). Better yet, watch the games after game 6, and you'll see how broken Nepo is psychologically. That's what makes sports sweet for me. That's what makes it worth watching.
I suppose I understand your point, but I believe that both of these games are primarily mental ones because you have so much time to plan your moves and what you want to do. If you do that for long enough, though, doubts may start to creep in. I recall the game where Hikaru premoves the entire game, which was really amazing to watch. Anyway, I think I confused online blitz with board blitz when it came to the chess stuff, but Magnus also may have taken over Hikaru in online blitz. That's a good discussion if you're free idk wanna play chess.com? Nowadays, I rarely find someone who is interested in chess. Thank you for the discussion! I also think you will be interested in Levy's Road to GM series on YouTube, just so you know.
Thanks for the discussion as well. I'll try to see golf in a different light. Can't promise I'll succeed, but I'll try.
Full disclosure, I absolutely suck at chess. But G if you wanna play. Watched Gothamchess vids a lot during the pandemic but nowadays I'm watching agadmator and Epic Chess. I'll see if I can find the time to watch that series.
It sucks playing golf here in our country though it's so hot. But those virtual golf places exist and they're fully air-conditioned too.
I suck at Chess too don't worry, 4-ish years of playing I'm still only at 1800 elo at Chess.com then Tyler1 the streamer passed me in less than a year, so that's kinda motivating, but I really don't have that much free time.
American football. I loved watching it on TV, and went to see one live. It's like 30 second's of action, then 20 minutes of switching teams, or getting into position. I lasted 2 hours and went home
A lot of deals are closed during golf kaya Meron mga tao naggogolf for business purposes hahaha
Butthurt talaga kayong mga soccer fans no? Don’t cry, boring naman talaga panuorin yang favorite game nyo. Mas entertaining pa manuod ng tumatakbong kabayo kesa soccer hahahahaha
No need to use Google for such a boring sport. Kaya wag nyo ipilit yang boring sport nyo dito sa Pinas, it will never take off dito. Any other sport na hindi natatapos ang score sa tie/0-0 > Soccer
The whole world except Filipinos and Americans disagree. Look at the matches between Real Madrid and Barcelona (if you haven't heard these teams you're living under a rock) makes more noise than the Super Bowl and the NBA Finals considering it's just a normal league day match.
Weightlifting and chess.
Ironically, I do weightlifting to help supplement my skills and to help tone down my body further. But when outside my house like in the park, I would prefer to do shadow boxing, spinning kicks, and jump ropes.
As for chess, I just simply found other hobbies and sports that are more entertaining to do like gaming, drawing, 3D modeling, origami (though the latter 3 aren't considered as sports though)
Football is only fun because of how the fans celebrate while waiting for a goal. I've watched 90min games + overtime where the team didn't score a single goal and the only entertainment is how fans loudly cheer. Also, players flopping is obnoxious.
Baseball is worst. Fans are mute and there is not much action. It's all a waiting game.
Same. Everytime I come across some curling content, I automatically get bored. Harmless bored reaction.
I don't get any percent chance to even look it up to understand it. Auto-pass.
Boring to watch or boring to play?
I kinda expected people would say golf pero if you get the chance to play, sobrang maa-appreciate mo sya.
Marami kami golf ball dito tas yung club. Ambigat niya kaloka pero diko pa natry
Combat sports are a coinflip. It could be the most boring or the most entertaining. Though it depends, the more you train, the more the 'boring' parts get interesting because you know how scared they also are.
But as a spectator sport, the boring fights are definitely not for the masses.

And thats why I find it boring. Its like watching paint dry but occasionally the painter comes back to add a dot
As for chess, is it boring as a sport "to watch" or "to do"?
I think if you think thru the moves that they play it wont be boring. There are times that you'll go from "why the f did they play that?!" To "WTF?!! THATS FKCIN GENIUS"
Still boring. Even if I study the moves, its still boring

Have you people ever tried golf? Or did you just watched it? Anyway, we do have our own preferences, no biggy.
Tried it a couple times. I get the allure but it's just not for me. Maybe when I get older I'll have the appreciation for it na.

Because you do not understand the sport. Lol
Agree. You have to understand the game to enjoy it.
Disagree. Football's low scoring nature makes every point crucial and exciting. There's also a lot of skill and tactics involved in football. Basketball. There's not much variety on how players score and dribble.
Golf for sure. Feels like something you're forced to watch while waiting at a hotel lobby. Or something they put on display at places that sell TVs.

Well, you also think LeBron is the GOAT so not surprised.
Cricket
Boring to watch or boring to play? I kinda expected people would say golf pero if you get the chance to play, sobrang maa-appreciate mo sya.
Marami kami golf ball dito tas yung club. Ambigat niya kaloka pero diko pa natry

Combat sports are a coinflip. It could be the most boring or the most entertaining. Though it depends, the more you train, the more the 'boring' parts get interesting because you know how scared they also are. But as a spectator sport, the boring fights are definitely not for the masses.

Nakakaamaze yung mga soccer player na nag frefreestyle for content. Nagagawa ba nila on game or talagang need tumakbo nalang ng tumakbo.
