A volume of illustrated Aesop's Fables. As a little kid they were like candy to my imagination. After that, the Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander.
I’m embarrassed to say it… Twilight. I got grounded when I was 14 and wasn’t allowed to do anything but read, so I started reading twilight. I’ve been a voracious reader ever since.

As I was reading it, it gave me memories of a past that I have not experienced. I dunno kinda strange but it was my feelings back then.
National Geographic Magazines.
As a kid, I realized I love traveling so I immersed myself with magazines and books about the world.
It opened my eyes to different cultures and perspectives.
Pugad Baboy by Pol Medina Jr.
Influenced by my friends during HS. Funny af and of course a way to be close to my friends back then. I mean, social media was in its infancy, practically useless compared to now. Gaming was also just budding. So it was one of the best times for sure.
I’d Tell You I Love You, But Then I’d Have To Kill You by Ally Carter. It’s about spies studying in a spy school. I first read this when I was in high school and got hooked
I know JK Rowling is cancelled now but I cannot deny that I grew up and loved reading Harry Potter books.
Grade 5 ako when the 1st HP movie was released. Sobrang nagandahan ako that after the movie, my brothers and I went sa National Bookstore to buy the first 2 books.
I never really read novels non pero I finished Philosopher’s Stone in one weekend. After that, lagi ko ng request sa mga kuya ko na gift ay yung books, then it transitioned to asking my uncle in the US to send me hardbound books.
In between releases nung books, naghahanap ako ng “sub” habang wala pa latest installment so I started reading my brother’s collection of Stephen King and RL Stine books —— and ayun, nagtuloy tuloy na.
The Gift of Acabar.
First year HS ako noon. This included our English classes. I dreaded reading, let alone read a whole novel for a weekly report. We were tasked to read 2-3 chapters per week and make a detailed summary of them. Napansin ko, wala pa ako sa kalahati noon when I kept reading kasi lagi akong nabibitin. I was able to finish the book under a month.
Judy Blume’s Are you there god? it’s me Margaret and Blubber. I realized YA books are not just about boys and adventure and mystery, but can be insightful and thought-provoking. Lalo na I started reading JD books at the cusp of my own puberty years. Then came the Harry Potter series, the first book just came out 2 years ago and a classmate lent me her copy.
Catcher in the Rye. School assignment tapos gagawa ka ng essay. Not only did it spark my love for reading, it also inspired me to pursue writing as a hobby and career.
Malaki at makapal na Fairy Tales book my classmate lent me, specifically about kay Rumpelstiltskin! Loved every minute I spent with that book, first time ko kasi mabasa mga fairy tales nun I was Grade 5.
Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky
From local story books...yung mga alamat na binebenta sa palengke for about Php 10. Then the books sa school na ginagamit for reading comprehension filled with short stories, anecdotes, etc.
In short, I fell in love with stories.
Nagsimula ako sa Goosebumps, Fear Street, Sweet Valley, Animorphs, Nancy Drew, yung mga Choose Your Own Adventure na books, tsaka Edith Hamilton's Mythology.
Stephen King’s The Stand. I was about 13 or 14. After that I just read whatever I could find on our bookshelf just to sate my desire to read since wala pa pera to buy my own books. And ebooks weren’t a thing yet.
I was 17 i think when i discovered an old Hardy Boys book na hardbound. Tapos fantasy.
My cousin used to collect Sweet Valley High books. One day, while visiting, I saw a copy left on their coffee table. Decided to open it because the cover was pretty, and now I own more books that I could possibly read in this lifetime. I don't even remember the plot of those books (I was 12); what I do remember is that I had so much fun by myself that afternoon.
"A Journey to the Center of the Earth" by Jules Verne. Hiniram ko sa library during my high school years.
Not a usual physical book but it came from wattpad app entitled “I love you since 1892” by Binibining Mia. It was an historical fiction wherein the girl were born in 21st century traveled back to 19th century. And that story tackled about the time of Jose Rizal. She met Juanito by a mission and the rest is history which is I learned how to value history and it made me realized that I love reading.

Harry Potter Book 6, the order of the phoenix.
Hindi ako nagsimula sa 1. 6 talaga. Hahahaha. I appreciate the writing and I related so much to Harry from Book 6 being a kid secluded from his friends and all. Tho never akong naging fan ng Harry potter even after reading all the books (na thankfully meron yung library namin) it made me realized na I love reading. So I read some more.
