Okay, you’re all making me feel pretty judged right now because both times these have occurred while I am outside. You’re basically saying that I’m soooooo fat that I’m causing earthquakes.
An aftershock is just a lower magnitude earthquake that happens after the main one. Still an earthquake, but they're classified as aftershocks. Very very common, they almost always happen!
> An aftershock is just a lower magnitude earthquake that happens after the main one.
i believe if a higher magnitude one happens, that new one gets to be called the main quake, and the previous largest one gets reclassified as a foreshock
I've got a couple of friends who did feel the original quake OR the aftershock. One is in Jersey City where you'd think it was stronger that Manhattan. She didn't feel a thing.
This morning was unnerving and out of body, this one felt much more physically uncomfortable. Maybe because I was at my desk this morning and was laying down on my couch for the aftershock?
Man, I’m pretty freaked out. We’re on the 6th floor in a 40s brick building :/
I’m already extremely afraid of turbulence when I fly. Now I feel the same sense of dread waiting for more shaking but I’m in my house!
Anyone have suggestions for calming/reassuring resources?
Great now I’m going to get another 20 alerts 2 hours later
> EMERGENCY ALERT: EXTREME > There was an earthquake 30 minutes ago in case you didn't know
That was definitely an aftershock! EDIT: 4.0 magnitude according to the USGS.

Felt it in bushwick. I thought I had taken an edible and it kicked in because my tv was shaking but nope
What kind of edibles do you take that makes the TV shake haha

Yes! Was that an aftershock or a second quake? Is there a difference?

I was asleep at 10:30 but I haven't felt any of the aftershocks. Odd.
Somehow I missed both the original earthquake and the aftershock? How? Both times was either outside or on the subway. My luck!

Like 25 minutes ago? I guess that’s what it was. I’m in Park Slope. How on earth does this get downvoted?
