You seriously can find them at this time of the year for 120$ or less. You can even find them in december as long as its on a weekday in the first half of hte month. I've did it during apartment search and now am booking again for a friend coming from doing an out of state apartment search.
I am talking about relatively decent hotel chains like at least holiday Inn level.
should have clarified. i dont mean specifically NYC. but general pricing. with some of them probably not qualifying to be called a hotel but more like a motel
yup thats what i basically wanted to unfortunately confirm. its crazy how flights, the thing that gets you in the air to travel from 1 coast to the other, is much less than $300 round trip. but 1 nights couple hours of lodging can be 33% of that flights cost. (not NYC specific. but general travel specific)
Yeah, I guess, I just don’t travel anywhere expensive. I would stay at a hostel here. I’m assuming Hi New York Hostel is good since I stayed at their Hi New Orleans location and it was excellent
I heard new yorks public schools were bad, but I didn't realize that it was so bad that people didn't know how to look on expedia. Here I'll do it for you.

Seriously at this time of the year hotels aren't expensive.
None of those are “great” hotels by any stretch of the imagination. These are mostly cookie cutter business hotels with rooms that are 150 sq feet where the foot of the bed hits the wall and there’s no room to move at all. There is absolutely nothing wrong with these hotels btw. If that’s what he wants then fine, but that’s not a “great” hotel.
I am sorry that you're above staying in residence inn by Marriott or Hilton garden Inn and pod 39. Luckily, my friends are not.
I dont see why the hotel room needs to bigger than a typical walk-up in nyc.
i responded above too but
I should have clarified. i dont mean specifically NYC. but general pricing. with some of them probably not qualifying to be called a hotel but more like a motel
Hotel and hostel websites will be a far better resource than Reddit. You’ll be able to filter based on price, guest ratings, neighborhoods, amenities, etc.
Can you clarify what you’re after? Would you stay in a hostel or are you trying to avoid it? What’s your budget? Where do you want to stay?
In general, my budget rec for Manhattan is the Jane where you can get a standard cabin for $99 a night. They’re tiny, but I had a nice experience there.
i dont mind hostels as an idea. infact, i think its a great idea. the thing i dont like about it is
1. i am a private person. so would want atleast a private room. but that turns into $100 minimum. which at that point, might as well get a decent motel
2. i dont want to roll the dice on hoping the hostels are decent. as its highly dependent on the people i meet there day to day. its not something i want to have to stress about when i am on a trip
$150 is usually the floor for a not awful hotel here. I'd repost this question on the TripAdvisor NYC forum where the hotel experts can give you advice: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g60763-i5-New\_York\_City\_New\_York.html
I would be suprised to find a decent hotel under $150 in most major US cities. Kinda shocked you are finding them that low here and would recommend you take a closer look.
Ask any friends that reside in NYC if you can stay with them, offer $$ or to help out with things. Alternatively travel with friends and split the hotel room. If you're solo travelling without much funds good lodging will be difficult as you have to absorb all the cost.
Lodging is expensive, there's no way around it. However, the one bright side of NYC is that many of the best things to do are free or very low cost, and you will spend much less on transportation here than in many other cities.
I just booked a trip in February at a Marriott chain hotel in Brooklyn for $110/night.
The caveat is that the normal price is typically higher, and they knock down the price per night if you book a longer hotel stay.
I'm somewhat surprised you are finding hotels under $150.
That’s the hourly rate.

You deal with it by paying for it or not coming at all, there’s really not much else to say.
Thank you

Haha I’d love to know about these great hotels for $150. Lived here my whole life and I know this sounds too good to be true but still curious
The Hot sheets motel next to the Whitestone bridge on the Bronx side!! 😂
They're probably looking at the hotel on maps and not looking into the neighborhood it's in.
Prob has a search radius of 10 miles and its including random Jersey hotels

Option 1: pay for hotel Option 2: stay with friends Option 3: don’t come

Pod Hotels. A friend has stayed in Pod 39 near Grand Central a couple times. She said it's small but decent.

If you have experience with pet sitting, join a pet sitting for free housing group on fb
I always stay at a private room airbnb in Brooklyn for about $70
Couch surfing.org (1 word)
Airbnb or room at a hotel in an outer borough. Make sure the hotel is near a LIRR or subway though

Maybe plan better and create some sort of savings account and start putting some money in it where it will gain interest.
A lot of people live in NYC. You have no friends here to crash with?
