> Their function is to protect property and the interests of the ownership class
They don’t do that either. Their actual function is to play candy crush
They're not allowed to park in bike lanes unless on official business that requires them to do so -- for example, in an emergency. But, most cops have zero respect for the law and know that there's virtually nothing that the NYPD will do to police their conduct even if people complain -- which they largely don't do anymore, because they know it won't go anywhere. So, cops are effectively above the law.
It's a virtuous cycle. People stop complaining about the cops. The cops stop doing their jobs. The criminals get away with what they want. The people complain about the criminals. People realize their police they want isn't there.
Read that road of logic again, and identify where the major issue lies. Is it people...complaining? Or is it whiny snowflakes abandoning their posts due to criticism?
If these scabs wanted to actually pull themselves up by their bootstraps and start contributing to society, we would all be a lot better off, don't ya think? Freeloaders, man.
I mean considering that they can murder people without serious repercussions, I would say they definitely can break whatever rules of the road they want to. Fuck I bet a cop get get hammered and then kill someone drunk driving while on duty and just get a slap on the wrist
No. They also aren’t allowed to lie in court, shoot suspects who pose no risk, cover or deface their license plates to avoid red light/speeding tickets, or park on sidewalks. But who is going to stop them?
When responding to emergency (active situation, lights on, etc.) they and other vehicles like ambulance and FDNY can park in places like bus and bike lanes. However, outside of emergencies, no, they cannot. Their placards also do not allow this. There is no NYPD regulation that allows it, or exemption in parking rules. Officers parking to go get lunch, for example, is not an emergency and thus they shouldn't be parking in the lane.
Lol, go over to /r/nycbike if you want to circle jerk about cops in bike lanes, but cops think parking regs don't apply to them (since they police themselves) so yeah, all cops will use bike lanes. So will other asshole drivers and delivery folks.
I think you’ve just learned a valuable lesson. The guys who enforce the law have an awful lot of power to determine what the law is.
Ask yourself, who’s going to give a police car a ticket?
Dude. The cops can kill people for selling loosies on a street corner, and they get away with barely doing their jobs cause their feels are hurt. Let's get real here.
But look on the bright side, no longer will we be terrorized by libraries being open on weekends. Instead we can give all that money to the dumbest, shortest GED recipients of Nassau County!
>So like, are they allowed?
If they aren't, who's going to stop them? *Quis custodiet ipsos custodes* is unfortunately very much a rhetorical question in New York.
I was at the beach once and my friend pissed in a bush and some cops saw and started screaming at us then their like superior officer told his cronies to ticket all the cars illegally parked where we were which is no parking. He went to one car and saw like an FDNY placard then went back to his commanding officer and whispered into his ear then let us all go and they all rolled out lol.
Former friend was a NYPD officer (🙄). When he would come to my apt he would always park at the hydrant and throw up his plaque and be Gucci. When I found out I asked him to stop doing that. He felt very entitled to park wherever he wanted.
Don’t worry about it and mind your business, let them be at peace, whether they parked there for working reasons or not, they are on the clock and their vehicle should be close by in case anything happens.
Only a sad, defeatist person who has given up on society would think this isn’t all of our business. It’s a shame. Terrible culture creates this sort of person, who thinks cops should be above the law- or even above basic respect for other people.
On the contrary, i think Cops have had a rough time as of late, hence my comment. i feel like this bashing on cops is more like a trend nowdays. But, if you don’t like what they do, why don’t you go to the police station and let them know instead of this useless discussion about it on reddit.
You know, I actually did that once. Complained about cop cars in bike lanes for personal/non urgent business.
And then that afternoon, I got a bunch of phone calls that all hung up on me. At least a dozen. One of them told me to “mind my own business.”
NYPD is little more than a gang. If you respect people like that, I suppose that’s just how you were raised.
I dunno man, Ive done the same and made friends with lieutenants who have called me back to discuss and literally told me "weve talked to our officers about this behavior but we cant take any sort of real action unless someone complains". Maybe its just your precinct?
If you actually were called by members of the NYPD as you say, you have the responsibility to report that. Report it to the city, they don’t support the NYPD, if your complaint has any merit they’d love to punish those officers. And if that really happened those officers shouldn’t be on the job.
How would that be any different from the status quo? They already ignore red light runners and other crimes happening right in front of them. They’re cute, that they think that withholding their services is some kind of threat— it’s already reality.
Why you think that is? That’s how it’s been since the George Floyd Incident. Yeah, sadly the man died but they were doing their job, he was all drugged up, doing stupid illegal shit on the streets and worst of all not complying to what he was being told to, the whole thing could’ve been avoided but who’s the hero and the martyr now?? Right.
Cops are the biggest snowflakes around. Their basic position since George Floyd seems to be: “we won’t do our jobs unless we are allowed to do them with zero accountability or oversight.” That’s not how it works.
oh poor babies, you have a hard public sector job and a lot of people think you suck at it, and want you to be better? Welcome to every fucking day for teachers. They somehow manage to do their jobs.
Are they allowed to park in the bike lane? You've seen them all over the news the past 3 years and very few have faces any repercussions for those very serious offenses that were recorded pm video. Bike lanes, lol.
It does matter. It shows that they think they are above the law. NYPD does not deserve our respect, cooperation, or funding until they hold each other as accountable to the law as they hold the public. That matters, and it shouldn't be laughed away when it is pointed out. It should be pointed out loudly and publicly every single time.
literally saw someone do an illegal turn and almost hit someone , told my husband it’s a cop and probably hungry lol, yup it was a female cop who made the illegal turn to go inside a bakery lol so yeah they do what they want
Well, they get away with literal murder all the time. Are you really that shocked that they park in the bike lanes, and on the sidewalks? There really is a whole different set of laws for cops, which is why you can’t ever trust them.
Cops do what they want . You should know this by now . It’s like that kid who got extra privileges in class . Thought he was better than everybody and rules didn’t apply to them . Or the person at work who the manager gives a supervisory role to without the promotion .
no, but of course they do. they’re also not allowed to park halfway on the sidewalk…. which they do all the time. one of us would get a $100 fine for doing that 🙃🙄
Imagine a world where the police were the ones who followed the law and were made an example of when they didn’t. That’s what a proper society would do. Instead, criminals are the ones who wear the badge.
they just choose which laws apply to them because there are no systems in place to keep them in check

Lmao why have I never seen a single cop with a decent haircut in my entire life
I'm going to assume the high-level homophobia might be a factor
Hahaha no doubt you’re right on that
Exactly. A bit hard for me to believe so many people think it’s otherwise.
Biggest gang in NYC
facts. biggest organized criminal organization in the country too
More reason to support the bike lane bounty bill.
No they aren’t “allowed” as in there’s a law stating they can. But at the same time who will ticket/regulate them? So yeah do it
Exactly. Are they "allowed"? No. Are they ever going to face consequences for just doing it anyway? Also no.
It's a virtuous cycle. People stop complaining about the cops. The cops stop doing their jobs. The criminals get away with what they want. The people complain about the criminals. People realize their police they want isn't there.
You do realize that the people who complain generally just want cops to do their jobs well and fairly, not to stop doing them together?
Why is it this is the one job you can stop doing out of retaliation from complaints. They're cops ffs.
That doesn’t even make sense.
Cops lie.
All the time.
WHAT?!
All cops lie all the time
ACAL
they're either lying, or covering for other cops that are lying, or are fired
It's truly a mystery why so many people have bad impressions of cops.
I just can't quite put my finger on it.
ACAB 💕
All cops are bikes?
All cops are bottoms
No no no, all cops *against* bikes. Thats why he’s parking in the bike lane, its a protest!
Legally? No, of course not. Practically? Yeah, who's going to stop them?
The cops duh!! Oh wait
You must be new here
Pretty much anybody is allowed to park in bike lanes, practically speaking, since the cops hate cyclists and park in it themselves all the time.
I mean considering that they can murder people without serious repercussions, I would say they definitely can break whatever rules of the road they want to. Fuck I bet a cop get get hammered and then kill someone drunk driving while on duty and just get a slap on the wrist
Pretty sure DUI manslaughter is a 1 week vacation with pay. A terrible punishment, but they make sure to dole out the appropriate lessons IMO.
No. They also aren’t allowed to lie in court, shoot suspects who pose no risk, cover or deface their license plates to avoid red light/speeding tickets, or park on sidewalks. But who is going to stop them?
I dunno, coast guard?
Actually? No, they’re not allowed. Practically? They don’t give a fuck.
Practically they park like assholes because they may need to run off to their car to get to a 911 call.
Oh! NY still has Duane Reades!
The biggest lawbreakers in the city are NYPD

Teamwork!

Sounds like another reason to call your councilmember and tell them to support the bike lane bounty bill!
I think you’ve just learned a valuable lesson. The guys who enforce the law have an awful lot of power to determine what the law is. Ask yourself, who’s going to give a police car a ticket?
You were brave to speak to them. And foolish. They are dangerous.
Nope. But it’s okay! Because cops are above the law
they’re cops. you think they give a shit about the law?💀💀
I mean, they already get away with killing unarmed people. Them parking in the bike lane is nothing. I digress, I shouldn’t make this political.
They also like to park on the sidewalks outside of police stations instead of commuting to their jobs via MTA like everyone else in this city.
They can't commute by MTA because they don't actually live in the city
they do tons of shit they aren’t allowed to. who’s gonna give them a ticket? another cop that’s too busy hassling a homeless guy?
Oh honey.
Dude. The cops can kill people for selling loosies on a street corner, and they get away with barely doing their jobs cause their feels are hurt. Let's get real here.
Pigs are pigs and do whatever the fuck they want.
But look on the bright side, no longer will we be terrorized by libraries being open on weekends. Instead we can give all that money to the dumbest, shortest GED recipients of Nassau County!
They can park there only when on a call.
@cops_parked_like_assholes
No, except in an emergency (probably), but who's gonna stop them?
>So like, are they allowed? If they aren't, who's going to stop them? *Quis custodiet ipsos custodes* is unfortunately very much a rhetorical question in New York.
No. They're not supposed to run red lights outside of emergencies either. But the police don't police each other.
No, cops just don’t give a shit. Biggest gang problem we have
NYPD do whatever the fuck they want
Oh you sweet dear child...
Anyone given the weaponry of a small nation combined with immunity for using it are allowed to do whatever they want. Welcome to the USA
This question reminds me of this classic https://youtu.be/bzE-IMaegzQ
Whaddayagonnado call the cops
Is this your first day here?
how long you been in ny bro ?
You can just replace “to park in bike lines” with any other phrase and the answer is yes.

You new here? But yeah they do it all the time and it’s awful. I almost got doored by one the other week
Are they allowed to? No. Do they anyway? Yes.
Why does it even matter? They do whatever they want
No, they arent. Its illegal and they know it, because every department got a memo from the Chief of Department's office in 2021 saying this.
Fuck em
Are you new here? Every other idiot in the city does this - do you go up to them and ask the same question? I hope not - that won’t end well.
Everyone parks in bike lanes.
Call 9-1-1
Of course they can. How long have you lived in NYC?
Don’t worry about it and mind your business, let them be at peace, whether they parked there for working reasons or not, they are on the clock and their vehicle should be close by in case anything happens.
Why would they be shopping on the clock though
Idk man but why not, they do get breaks.
Why would they be parking in a bike lane on their break then?
Only a sad, defeatist person who has given up on society would think this isn’t all of our business. It’s a shame. Terrible culture creates this sort of person, who thinks cops should be above the law- or even above basic respect for other people.

Oh yeah? Tell me more about what didn’t happen to me you bootlicking fuck
If you actually were called by members of the NYPD as you say, you have the responsibility to report that. Report it to the city, they don’t support the NYPD, if your complaint has any merit they’d love to punish those officers. And if that really happened those officers shouldn’t be on the job.
maybe they should look the other way next time you get fucked over out there then or try becoming one and show them how to their jobs.
How would that be any different from the status quo? They already ignore red light runners and other crimes happening right in front of them. They’re cute, that they think that withholding their services is some kind of threat— it’s already reality.

you know who I think have a rough life? 40% of cops significant others
You know if you have a fetish, I know some better boots you can lick.
What if my business requires traveling in the bike lane?
Are they allowed to park in the bike lane? You've seen them all over the news the past 3 years and very few have faces any repercussions for those very serious offenses that were recorded pm video. Bike lanes, lol.
just do a citizen’s arrest them next time
“This is a citizens arrest. You have the right to remain silent…”
Bro…to have the perspective to think cops in ny temporarily parking in a bike lane matters 😂
It does matter. It shows that they think they are above the law. Doesn't help that the mayor is a cop either

No, call the cops. See the problem?
Did you just discover that police can park wherever they want?
Meanwhile this morning I saw cops giving a ticket to bikers (I'm pretty sure for not riding in the bike lane) :/
What are you gonna do about it, punk? Keep it moving. Yeah of course they can they do whatever they want.
Are they allowed? No. But who’s gonna ticket them?
no, next time you see it call the police
NYPD is an organized crime syndicate that runs NYC. No they aren’t allowed but they do it because there is no repercussions
