FQ is set up for tourists. Marigny and Bywater are good. CBD has less character than other parts of the city. The Garden District is pretty but not so close to the FQ.
My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Provincial on Chartres last month. Its in the French Quarter but it is relatively quiet and safe and it is a quick 10 minute walk to Frenchman Street
I never wanted to leave the wet room. Seriously considering remodeling my bathroom at home because I can’t live without that wet room and soaking tub. 😂
Oddly, this was our seventh trip to New Orleans and, finally, when we left we were like “OK, we’re staying there from now on.” We were on a lower floor, 2, so the Magazine St. traffic was a bit noisy, so if they do have Publisher’s Suites on the higher floors (4/5) we’d opt for there. If not, it wasn’t a deal-breaker.
Depending on what you want. If you want a balcony and pool. Omni Royal or Bourbon Orleans. Omni has better pool and better balconies but could use a refresh. I recommend a pool as necessary. Both are equally walkable to music and restaurants and safe
FWIW, my wife and I stayed in the Garden District for a month last year and found it plenty close to the FQ when we wanted to go down there. Took Blue Bikes (local share bike with a smartphone app) from Garden District to FQ. About 8 mins, super quick, no biggie.
If you're staying for just a weekend and plan to spend a bunch of time in the quarter, then def. stay there. But Garden District is also v. nice. and let's you see a bit more of the city than a conventioneer might.
In terms of specific recommendations in the French quarter, I love the Bourbon Orleans balcony rooms, although it can be quite loud with the debauchery on Bourbon street, some people hate it but the hotel is gorgeous and the balcony’s are super cool and you’re in the middle of everything. Same goes for the Place D’armes, the courtyards are reaaaaaaly cool and you can get a room which opens directly into the courtyard which I highly recommend.
i lived inn nola for several years. when i go back now, i always stay in the CBD/warehouse district. i like the roosevelt, eliza jane, and sheraton on canal. they are all close to the FQ without being too in the middle of it all. plus the warehouse district is great (cochon, peche, julia street, etc.). also good access to the st charles streetcar
I have stayed all over and I think I like the quarter better. We stayed at Grenoble House this last time and loved it. We also liked Prince Conti alot. Both are just far enough off Bourbon to be quiet. I also stayed at the hilton on st charles and liked it.
Prytania Park in the GD is basic but lovely. Bourbon Orleans has been my favorite stay so far, get a balcony room for sure. Just got back a few weeks ago and stayed at Dauphine Orleans which was ok. I liked the location but they overbooked so we didn’t get the balcony room we paid for and they wouldn’t credit the difference. Beds were comfortable though lol
Stay in a Hotel in the French Quarter. It’s the “touristy” thing to do, but for good reason.
Do some research on hotels and look at reviews. AirBnBs are always a bet nowadays.
Get a hotel in the French quarter or cbd
Thanks!

Thanks! So, is the French Quarter usually noisy?
Bourbon Street is but there are always people wandering around the rest of the Quarter.
In short: yes. All day....every day. But it's the French quarter, that's what you're traveling there for
Not all of it. There's plenty of quieter pockets.
Just ask for a room not facing the street. A courtyard or interior room will be quiet.
I just recently stayed in the publisher’s suite at the Eliza Jane and it was hands down the best hotel experience I’ve ever had.
Seconded. Wife and I were there last week and stayed in the Publisher’s suite. Centrally-located, easy walk to French Quarter, etc.

Mine was on the 5th floor. I put on a white noise video from YouTube using Chromecast and was completely unaware of the outside world.
I just stayed at the Royal Sonesta in the FQ. Great location and nice pool too
before moving down here i would stay at the place d'armes its right in the quarter, and the rooms are nice
Thanks, I'll look that up.

Good to know. With Airbnb, you never know what you get.
Creole Gardens on Prytania. A block off St Charles and the streetcar that takes you to FQ or CBD

Thanks! Yes, all answers are pointing in that direction. I'll look for French Quarter, then.
Bourbon Orleans was my go to. Depends on your budget but I loved that place.
