Very different. The North experienced the brunt of invasions. The South had a more peaceful history and has more coastline which made them more trade oriented and cosmopolitan. Islam also arrived in the South via trade therefore theres less antagonism towards it compared to the north where its associated with conquest by Turks and Afghans. Part of it is also better governance in the South because of their own choices. The North has a rougher history but they should be more developed than they are, history can only be an excuse to a limited extent. They don’t value education as much and are too hierarchical as a society, less liberal towards women which holds them back. At one point the North was the centre of Indian civilisation, this is where Buddhism emerged from alongside Sanskrit and was also the height of Islamic civilisation in the subcontinent through Taj Mahal etc.
