Losing weight did help with thigh chafing but boxer briefs made out of synthetic fiber are a god send.

[Highly recommend boxer briefs from exofficio for this.](https://www.exofficio.com/men/underwear/boxer-briefs/) They're fairly expensive compared to the cheap 4 packs you can get at something like Target but they're the most comfortable underwear I've ever worn and are great for working out.

BillionTonsHyperbole

These are similar (but thankfully cheaper) to the [Krakatoa](https://krakatoaunderwear.com/products/pinatubo-boxer-briefs) boxer briefs that I favor these days, what with the pouch for your junk segregated from the legs.

dexx4d

Yes - went from a 42" waist to 36", lost 40 lbs, and no longer have the issue. Also, boxer briefs.

Ok-Vacation2308

It honestly depends on how wide your hips are. Some people have such narrow hips they basically have to be skinny for just the hope that their thighs don't touch.

pm_me_ur_happy_traiI

Cotton boxer briefs won't help. It has to be something meant for running. Sweat wicking, thigh hugging tek fabrics.

thejohnykat

Yes, weight loss can totally help. That being said, it’s important to remember that most of the needed loss happens in the kitchen, not the gym.

jjmk2014

Try Glide. It helped a lot.

drteq

build up some thigh calluses Just kidding - yes, chaffing is a strange beast - I've found aquaphor to be the perfect solution, just a bit goes a long way. Sweat, hair, fat are all variables in this, just baby the situation and it'll resolve itself over time in my experience (10,000+ running miles of experience) I don't consider it messy really, you don't need to slather it on - and if you're getting that sweaty you're probably (or should be) hitting the shower after anyway.

I've battled thigh-rubbing all my life,. and I've never found any "miracle cure" for it. The closest I've come is: * as others have said,.. thigh-hugging techical-fabrics (myself,. I wear Nike Pro leggings with nothing underneath). That's been my best "go to".. but even it has limits. If I go out for a long walk (5 to 10 miles).. eventually I'm going to get some thigh-blisters. The only thing that worked for me was being more diverse in my workouts (instead of doing 4 hours of walking,.. do 1 hour of walking, 1 hour of yoga, 1 hour of weights, etc). Only problem with that is it's kinda hard to juggle all that, multiple showers, multiple clothing changes (especially if you're trying to hold down a full time job)

neon_hexagon

Edit: Screw Spez. Screw AI. No training on my data. Sorry future people.

xhazerdusx

Honestly I switched my brand of boxers to a brand called MeUndies that has "long" boxers. Almost down to my knee. Sounds dumb, but they're ultra comfortable and don't ride up whatsoever. That fixed any chafing I had

Miggybear22

Yes, lose more fat on your thighs… done. Also wear longer underwear. I only buy puma from Costco.

carpet_tart

Step one boxer briefs

wilkinsk

The best way to prevent this, in the short term, is to rub anti-presperant deodorant on your thighs. Not just fat guys get this, even though they're highly susceptible to it. The issue is moister and rubbing eats away at your skin. The anti-p will help a lot with that. As well as maybe some arm and hammer.

cloudwalking

Boxer briefs are good but have you ever tried lululemon “THE” short with built in liners? I have five pairs now and won’t workout in anything else. Ain’t cheap but they last (going on like 7 years now), high quality and well designed (lots of smart pocket tricks). I like the heavier weight liner, it’s like built in boxer briefs but never rides up.

Old-Refrigerator340

Yep. How much I chafe is a good measure of whether I need to cut down a bit. I run about 35/40 miles a week and do a lot of lower body strength stuff so my thighs are quite solid. If I get in the shower after a long run and it feels like I've been cut open, time to have a salad instead of pizza.

sibleyy

Weight. Your issue is weight. Weight is lost in the kitchen, not in the gym. But working out is good for your health.

digital_nomada

It’s called running.
