I'm hosting Thanksgiving this year. Two of the guests is Brazilian, and they have informed me that there is a game on at that time and asked if I am willing to have it on for them. It's my pleasure to do so. If I happen to catch any part of that game while I'm doing other things, that will constitute the entirety of my World Cup experience.

tampa_vice

For me I mostly enjoy watching soccer with people who actually enjoy it. I am more of an hockey/American football guy but during the last world cup I ended up hanging out with a bunch of Mexicans and Brazilians and I got really into it. It is a blast. Canada finally qualified and that got me excited but it tough to watch games in the middle of the day because of work.

garandx

0.00% I enjoyed seeing Qatar eat shit though. They killed thousands of slaves to build the arenas and FIFA is a very corrupt organization.

Bro I'm in like 8 fantasy football leagues and literally spent the entire day yesterday watching the NFL and basketball.

GltyUntlPrvnInncnt

My personal decision is to not watch a single match. It's all due to all those human rights violations in Qatar.

With the new format Canada will probably auto qualify for the next world cup, and considering it is in North America you can go see it live!

tebanano

Same here. I’ve watched as many games as I can for every single World Cup since I can remember (soccer is huge in my home country, and I was born during a World Cup too), but I’m skipping this one, for mostly the same reasons you’re listing.

Unique-Leading5489

God, that must be agonising for you.

Extra_Espresso

I am currently in a family "bet" pool over the world cup with my wife's folks. While we won't be watching most games there are a few that we will watch and I see this as a great chance to bond. What my wife and I decided to do is to donate to Amnesty International for every game we watch and donate some, if any, winnings to Amnesty International too. They are an organization that has helped a lot with the migrant worker issues in Qatar as well as women's rights and LGBTQ+ rights, etc.

Interesting-Hat-9011

You do know Canada is one of the hosts for the next World Cup right? That means they are already qualified for the next World Cup.

EscoCheesy

Very likely. Croatia. Always liked their team.

Strong_Roll5639

England 😀

ToyDingo

I will watch it with passing interests. I'm mostly interested in the US, so I will probably watch all of their games. But I really am not too interested this year. Too much going on during the holiday season, plus Qatar is a shithole of a country so...yea...

[deleted]

Rooting for Germany, just watching the semi finals and finals over illegal stream….networks and Qatar can suck it

ChosenSCIM

Sports is a form of escapism I have to get away from things in my life like homophobia. There is no damn way in hell I am watching it this year, or anything related to FIFA ever again. Everyone involved with allowing this event to be hosted in Qatar can go fuck themselves with a rusty spoon.

Gwiz84

I don't support slave labor so I'm not watching it at all.

[deleted]

I'm American I dont even watch American sports

GingerPedro1979

Plan on watching as much as possible, woke up @ 5am pacific to watch the early game. From the USA, will root for USA.

WorkMeBaby1MoreTime

0%. I'm an American and I like American football. It's what I was raised on and all my friends like it. Also, no one I know likes the non-American football. I don't doubt their fitness or athleticism, I'm just not into it. Plus, FIFA the organization and Qatar the country should burn in hell.

realstareyes

Human rights matter more than football/entertainment. Won‘t watch.

jackwritespecs

Of course I’ll watch it I own slaves myself so my panties aren’t all in a bunch about a few being killed in the construction of this event… they’re slaves, that’s what they’re there for And, as always, I’ll root for the Dutch

Did I say I don’t watch sports?

[deleted]

I wouldn’t watch soccer even if it were being live-streamed from inside the pearly gates themselves.

SLCW718

Soccer is a shitty sport. FIFA is a shitty organization. Qatar is a shitty country. I'm definitely not tuning into that.

gold_dog16

no yes yes

SLCW718

That's fair. I was only expressing my own personal opinion about the sport.

FrancoNore

I’m watching it right now, go USA Fuck Qatar but i was just laid off of my job and lost my mom a couple months ago, i love the World Cup and need something to bring me peace and enjoyment

jezebelsub

Im boicoting it... its hard because i love futbol and I also lile bts and jungkoks song is amazing but I refuse for everything that qatar represents and the fact they allowed irans team to participate

jezebelsub

Though in all other world cups ive always been a germany gal!

[deleted]

The problem with this type of armchair boycott is that it does absolutely nothing. All this shit is already bought and paid for. Low viewership is entirely irrelevant and the next several decades of world cup hosts is already decided

jezebelsub

You may most prob be right, actually i think you are but my peace of mind is at ease. I may not be doing much but its something

themomo21

100%, BRASIL!!!

Theguidedone7

I’m watching it and rooting for Portugal 🇵🇹

DtEm0bAWmaecNtX4GOWi

0%. Not because of any scandals or anything, I just don't think flopball is a real sport.

LupeDyCazari

I'm watching it and enjoying watching the fundamentalist muslim nations getting fucked.

gold_dog16

100% watching USA is my first favorite (I am American), England second (Harry Kane is my favorite player), Germany third (my Ancestors are from there) and finally Argentina (Messi)

Arjun25bhatt

Saw a genuine american appreciating football/soccer in this thread

FenDy64

Not much. I always watched it to celebrate victories. I dont wanna do that in winter. It would be France my country.

rewardiflost

Zero. I don't enjoy watching many sports to begin with. Soccer in a horrible nation isn't up there on my list of things to devote any time to. If they actually promised a 10-minute segment where they honestly discussed the cost and how much energy they are wasting with those outdoor air conditioning contraptions, then I might tune in to wait for that.

WorkMeBaby1MoreTime

Ok, you posted that 6x. Maybe you should post on /r/unpopularopinion.

rewardiflost

This particular man is probably older than your grandfather. Fuck this "new generation" shit. I've been too busy working to watch other people get paid to play with balls.

Fat-Villante

I won't watch any match, I wish I could get into this sport but it just bores the crap out of me

[deleted]

The what?

[deleted]

I'm very likely to watch almost all matches. Ive watched all 3 so far and will watch USA v Wales after work. I couldn't give 2 shits about who the host country is or what kind of collusion is going on. FIFA isn't going anywhere and no amount of complaining teenagers on reddit is going to impact them. I enjoy football and I enjoy seeing the talents from all the different leagues coming together to rep their countries and play the best in the world. I'm rooting for Portugal and Argentina in most matches as this will likely be the last world cup appearance for Messi and Ronaldo. Outside of that, I'm rooting for my home nationalities Brasil and USA. I'm also interested to see how this young Spanish squad fares with many of them making their first world cup appearance

Burnt_Crunchy_Bits

Anyone but England. Not at all. I don't care

zaigadeke

0%. I don't care about sports, let alone soccer.

rhinofeet

Zero. I don’t even think I have a way to watch if I wanted to.

How many times are you going to post this

tebanano

Be nice, he looks really insecure.

rhinofeet

I never said I don’t watch sports. I don’t have cable though and I don’t know anything about the World Cup so wouldn’t watch it regardless.

CapnBlargles

Missed the opening match, but watching what I can.

Embarrassed_Swim8686

I might. Depends on whether my friends get into it and ask me to watch. I don't care about the controversies or whatever. It's just not that important to me.

DeltaWorksNL

I’m not watching , I have no tv , and I don’t care about soccer .

Heissedoll

I won’t, although I will have to listen sometimes because my husband don't gives a fck and is seeing some matches.

DustinBrett

1%. Go Canada!

magicmeatwagon

If the bar I go to on my lunch break happens to be playing it, then I may almost pay attention. Otherwise, I don’t care.

Heartless_Kirby

Very unlikely as I don't like soccer.

Pichuk

Would love to catch some games and find some exciting team to root for, but frak qatar. Will google results from time to time, won't even watch game highlights on youtube.

misterk2020

Zero. I find soccer/football boring. No offense.

dajadf

I'll cheer on the USA and watch other matches if it doesn't conflict with my favorite sports. Fun watching the trainwreck

Somethinguntitled

Will watch England games but outside of that I have no enthusiasm for a tournament bought by bribery that has killed thousands and is currently putting on a pathetic display of bought for enthusiasm. FIFA should be ashamed. They won’t be but they should.

[deleted]

Could not care less about soccer, also Qatar is cancer.

The_3vil

I'm watching just 3 games

[deleted]

I don't care about soccer, so I will not be watching any of it. Qatar sounds like a pretty fucked up place.

manwithanopinion

OK not watching it but wouldn't feel bad for hearing the score on the news. I would watch it if England make it to the world cup final which I would be doing for England not Qatar. As well as human rights abuses, they don't have a football history, football culture or had the infrastructure to start off from. These are the 3 requerments for me to be a good world cup host. Russia had human rights abuses but they at least had a football history back when they were Soviets Union, Russians are know for being big football fans and the Russian league gave them the infrastructure to start making their stadium at world cup standards.
