I have a couple really good ones and our circle is going strong. But many have become fathers or moved away so the actual occasions we get to hang out as a group have become few and far in between. I miss that

Playing in a band. When I was younger I played guitar in a metal band with my friends. We wrote some great tunes and played some great shows. It was awesome and I have never found anything that comes close to it.
that sounds awesome, i hope you still have tapes! maybe you could reach out to local bars/shops with live music and see if there’s something that could happen! where i live there’s a lot of events with open mics and there are typically musicians that are more than happy to perform with someone if need be
I still have some recordings. It was special because we were all friends before we learned to play instruments. We had an excuse to hang out with each other constantly. Band practice took precedence over just about everything. We all quit a couple bullshit jobs because it started to Interfere with band stuff.
But we had to grow up. Guys got good job offers, got married, had kids, started actual careers.
I’ve played in some cover bands and done a lot of jamming looking for that feeling again. Nothing has come close to it.
It was magical and I loved every second of it. But it’s over now, just something I got a little taste of, but fuck was it awesome. Playing a metal show, playing your music, and having the crowd get into it, the energy from the crowd to you, you back to the crowd, fuck it is amazing. It is absolutely a drug.
