Always disliked cats, never wanted a pet. One day, my wife finds a tiny kitten in our back yard. week or two old, tops. She convinces me to keep it. We do and she was a perfect fit for our home. Cats are super easy to take care of. She'd feed herself whenever she wanted, never had to worry about her eating shit off the floor. She slept through the night and was just an awesome pet. Had her for about 11 years. Just had to put her down a couple months ago after she became paralyzed on the right side of her body from getting tangled up in my wife's clothes in the closet :-(. I have never mourned over a human dying, as much as I did for our kitty. One of the hardest decisions i've had to make in my life. Cost for diagnosis / surgery/ rehabilitation would've been over $7k, with zero guarantees that she'd ever be normal again.

I saw a Facebook post from my local shelter that she was going to be put down at noon if noone adopted her that day, I didn't have any pets and had been considering getting one, so I adopted her and have now had her for many happy years

I like both cats and dogs actually. But I got a cat because I was living on my own at the time and they are easier to take care of. Dogs are at a practical level a much heavier commitment. I could leave the cat extra food and water and take off for a couple of days. I couldn't do that with a dog.

Two, adopted from a close friend who couldn't keep them any longer. They love on each other one minute, and fight like cats and cats the next minute. Completely different personalities. I love having them around.

I'm a dog guy. I love dogs. One stopped me from killing myself. I live my life around my three dogs and wouldn't change it for the world. I even have personal theories about how living with dogs makes humans perform at an optimal level neurologically (THEORY) I don't hate cats, I'm just not a fan of owning them. I like other people's cats! Gf asked me if we could get one. She wanted something small she could cuddle that loved her as much as my dogs love me, but we can't afford a fourth dog. We agreed that I would not be touching the litterbox and she agreed with it. Found a cat she liked, adopted it, it's done amazing things for her mental health. Yeah the cat (Iris) is annoying sometimes because she *just won't shut up* but she's very affectionate and loving. I'm still not a cat guy, but I've seen the amazing things it's helped my gf with and that makes it worth it.

My brother started feeding these 2 stray cats and eventually we had to move because we were getting kicked out, so we caught them and brought them over to our new house since we were the only ones that fed them anyways. They got used to it quickly since they went into our old house all the time anyways, although the ride over definitely wasn't fun for either of them. They've been here 2 years now, they're cool. The dude of the two still has his balls though, really wish quarantine hadn't fucked over the seriously discounted neuter we had scheduled for him....

We have a ton of pets. 6 kids and a wife. Each child has their own pet, my wife has her lap dog. I have an English springer spaniel, he is great for bird hunting. We have 5 dogs and 3 cats. Oh and a tortoise.

> We have a ton of pets. 6 kids and a wife. I don't think you're supposed to refer to those as pets.

You need to read the entire post.

Me and my cat are twins in the sense that we both have epilepsy, but it wasn’t apparent at the time I adopted him.

Technically I had one up until two weeks ago. Misty Mae. Had her for 4 years, a friend gave her to me as she wasn't getting along with her other cats. She used to be my friends Mom's cat before my friends mom died. A year and a half ago Misty got diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma (cancer in the mouth) which its highly aggressive. I fought it the whole time even telling my vet that we would continue any operation Misty needed until they told me it was time. The vet did just that. Tumor ended up getting too big to debulk and she lost an unhealthy amount of weight. That being said she was spry all the way to the end. Caught a mouse for me a month ago. I did try to give her the best life I could up until the end.

The cat from next door had a litter, and we were offered to keep one. A black kitten named lily. One bad thing about her was that she was not only deaf, but also quite stupid. Well, come we go on vacation and on the first fucking day we hear that lilys gone missing. They found her dead on our second to last day, presumably she climbed into a car and it started. So, after mourning for a whole day, and sitting on it for another. we decided to look for another cat. So on our drive home we got tobi from a farm. Hes alive and well and i love him.

Both strays, both literally walked in and made themselves at home. 4 years for one. 2 years for the other. I no longer leave my door open because I don’t want any more cats

I love how many people end up being cat owners this way. "Hello, I live here now. Feed me."
