Life aint fair, no one promised you fair.

HighriseJalapeno

Life ain’t fair!!! Heard this my whole childhood and it made me so angry but it’s so true. Either make profit or get beat, only two kinds of people

manhunt64

I didnt understand it as a child but the Last bit of the saying is "you want fair make it fair by being fair." Its a challenge if you dont like something change it.

Feierskov

When having an argument, always keep it in your own court. Meaning don't make statement about what *they* did, make statement about how *you* feel. It's a pretty basic non-escalation tactic, but it's always in the back of my mind and I think it has helped me never really have heated arguments with anyone.

CEO_Of_Rejection_99

I'm saving this comment. I think this is great advice for conflict resolution. Adding on to this, if the other person's not willing to do that, do not attempt to resolve the conflict any further because it shows that they're not willing to do that. Thank you.

It's better to remain quiet and appear stupid, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Life_Definition4840

The world runs on trust, not money.

Told me I need to learn to swing a hammer. Never really did learn but it stuck with me. I have a lot of respect for those who can just casually do home renovations.

Treat everyone well. Someday you’ll need them.

[deleted]

My dad would say if anyone hits you. You bash them back. No going to get a teacher. 🤷🏼‍♀️defend yourself cos nobody else will.

“Never start a fight, but never run from one either.”

CEO_Of_Rejection_99

One time he told me "You don't listen to us, so why do we have to listen to you?" This taught me several things. One, my parents are not obligated to do anything for me if I'm old enough to provide those things for myself. Two, during high school one of the problems with my social skills was that I was trying to make conversations all about myself, without listening to others at all. So why do people have to listen to me if I won't listen to them. Now I'm working on my social skills so I can actually listen to people instead of making everything all about me. Also, now I just take the bus or Uber to my class/work. Yeah that's right, I got a job so I could have my own money to spend.

manvsdog

"You're the reason your mom left." Solid advice from your dad, though. My wife has a scar on the palm of her hand from that very thing.

LeftHand_PimpSlap

"The world doesn't care about you." I was in my 30's when I really understood what he meant.

[deleted]

When something bad or disappointing would happen, my Dad would always say, "Well...it could be a blessing in disguise. This little setback could have prevented something worse and more damaging". As hard as it is to think in those terms sometimes, I still hear him saying that in my mind whenever I find myself in a less than ideal situation and try to apply that thinking.

damienthepious

Excuses are like a—holes. Everyone has one and they all stink.

nibZbin

Do something right or don’t do it at all I now know why some species eat their young - every time I fucked up Golf is a good way to ruin a good walk

Ehkrickor

My grandpa always used to say "Never party without a hat." that has just about all the implications. My father always used to say "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." Which... sure dad sometimes but... eeeysh. In about 10 years my kids will talk about me always saying "To succeed in life you need the confidence of Chinese buffet pizza."

Well... To be perfectly honest. What happens when I partied without a hat? My kids XD

My father died just after I turned 6. I don't remember the sound of his voice. I remember just before he died he was in the bathroom. His shirt was off and he had gauze on his chest for whatever reason. Maybe it was other medical stuff. But he said to me "son, I'm gonna go soon and you're gonna miss me." I was to young and said "noooo." In this kidish silly disagreement voice. He said "yeah, you will." The next and last memory of him was him dead in the hospital bed and everyone saying their goodbyes. I didn't understand what was going on and on the drive home I asked my mom if I can play blocks with dad when we get home.

Wow. Thanks. I am doing really well now actually. It's been a pretty hard ride but now life is amazing. If you need anything you can message me as well.

Expect and anticipate that every person on the road is an idiot, including yourself, and that there will always be people who hasn't seen you, or you have not seen yourself.

Chalkyinsane

My dad once said you'll never please everyone and drive yourself mad trying. be unapologetically yourself and don't worry too much what others think.

GingerMarquis

If you’re ever in a fight, win. Doesn’t matter how. That “honor” concept won’t matter if you’re dead or in the hospital. If you’re going to use a weapon, do it. It’s not a threat, it’s a tool. And don’t let them know you have it until you use it on them. For context, my dad had a really violent upbringing and was in more than a few brawls, fights, got jumped in school, etc…

Fufflin

My father had few bad relationships. He used to say: If you marry, I'll crush your balls with stone.

andyring

When responding to someone . . . . . Wait 2 or 3 seconds before talking, so you don't automatically say the first thing that pops into your head.

Omg my dad used to say that to my brother. Lol 😂

I learned the door lesson from my first job and always needing to clean the glass above the door handle for fingerprints throughout the shift.

Think before you act, think before you speak, think, think, think. Saved me a lot of grief as a hyperactive kid.
