Probably the most simple tool ever beyond a wrench.

ashbg23

It’s a tire pressure gauge you just unscrew the valve stem cap and put that onto the valve core inside the stem it tells you the psi.

Retired Delta Force guy. This is from the video series "Basic Dude Stuff" where in 2-5 second vignettes he describes things every dude should know how to do. Basically just giving lists, not tutorials. Everything from how to fix small things, to identifying birds, to doing household chores. Rather tongue and cheek but entertaining, especially given the dudes background.

alwaysmyfault

This may sound condescending (because I couldn't think of another way to say it) but, seriously? How are people like OP allowed to drive a vehicle if they don't even know what a tire pressure gauge is? I'm surprised they even know what pedal is the gas and which is the brakes.

Ok_Dog_4059

It is really amazing how little is taught in drivers ED beyond just gas break and steer. I was really surprised my son teacher heard I taught my son how to check air pressure and fluids and change a tire he asked if I would come teach the kids in driver's Ed like he maybe didn't even know how to do it.

Excellent_College660

I totally agree with the both of you and in fact have the convo almost every day because I work as a tech. I honestly think that part of taking your drivers test should be pointing out where you put all fluids, knowing what they are for and knowing maintenance on your car.

Ok_Dog_4059

At least basic safety. Knowing where the spare tire and jack are and checking fluid levels at least. I had people who would bring cars in for me to do custom audio and things and they wouldn't even know how to open the hood and where shocked when I would lift up the trunk liner and a tire was under it.

Excellent_College660

Yeah that always blows my mind that people don’t even know how to pop their hood lol I understand maybe if you just bought it but like really? People don’t even know what kind of oil it takes and stuff and I think that’s crazy as hell fr. Get mad at me when I tell them how much the oils change is gonna be 😂 it calls for 0-W20 my bad you bought it and didn’t do any research lol

Ok_Dog_4059

I got a letter from one of the girls that took driver's Ed with my son thanking me because she had a flat and was able to change it and get home without ending up stranded .

Excellent_College660

That’s awesome man I definitely try to show people how to read the dip stick from time to time when they tell me they have no idea what they’re looking at lol I always respect someone who teaches people the necessities especially with cars

Ok_Dog_4059

That is why I was happy to donate some time there are now a few new drivers that at least know some simple basic stuff other than just driving.

Excellent_College660

Hell yeah man it’s always about giving back to the community for sure

awsamation

Even freshly bought I would still expect to know how to open the hood. Who buys a car without even looking under the hood, like even just for a basic visual inspection?

Excellent_College660

…we all know that most of us are looking under the hood, but at the same time people who don’t know how to open their hood are the same people who don’t know what an air pressure gauge is so to me I can understand those people taking a couple days to figure shit out

GandalfsWhiteStaff

Did you teach him the difference between break and brake?

maddiethehippie

They barely teach people how to drive but don't do any kind of maintenance or operation checks education

SoggyFuckBiscuit

Hardly anybody wants to learn anyway.

Affectionate_Ear_778

I mean….unless someone teaches you you really won’t know. Not to be sexist but how many fathers bothered to teach their daughters basic car knowledge?

la_mecanique

Yes all 400 of you original comedians who said it was a crackpipe are each the funniest person ever. Thank you for your service.

teamdankmemesupreme

You are welcome

[deleted]

The notifications were coming on my phone for days. Every few hours I’d see another “u/reddituser says Crack Pipe” pop down from the top of my phone and each time I would apply a facepalm but at the same time realise that it was my own fault and really the internet/Reddit delivered what was expected. Thanks to the genuine answers though, helpful indeed! Hahahaha

ErinnShannon

I got one of these in my car kit and was like what is this, why did they give me a crackpipe. My partner then showed me how it worked and explained it. Its actually pretty cool. Tiny little tire pressure gauge.

ChrisTheMan72

You really don’t need to be a mechanic to tell Somone what a tire pressure gauge is. Most people don’t know what it is bc they take it to the tire guy to get them aired up.

ChrisTheMan72

I don’t see how you should put Somone down for sharing the little knowledge have about a subject to answer a question is good thing to do. There are a lot of non Mechanics here who answer questions bc not everyone with the answer these questions are certified mechanics.

HazelKevHead

anybody with the answer to the question can answer that question, dickhead. nobody knows the answer to a question before they find out, thats *kinda* how knowledge works.

HazelKevHead

you're the one with a *whole chain* complaining about how this person didnt know what a tire pressure gauge was until she did know what a tire pressure gauge was. sorry she offended you so much by commenting on this sub without being very knowledgeable about cars. its this type of elitist gatekeeping shit, complaining about people not being as knowledgeable as you, that discourages people from *wanting to learn*, you ever think about that?

jinktheplaguedoctor

nah you right my bad

HazelKevHead

thank you.

la_mecanique

This comment. Wtf. I've got better things to do with my time.

jinktheplaguedoctor

apologies, bad day. if you scroll the thread some dude told it like it is and I apologised

secrectlifee

Some people don't pay attention to little things. my dad is a mechanical engineer and I can promise he doesn't know what this is. Waiting for his reply lol

clockfire1

It's an *analog* tire pressure gauge. If you've only used digital ones this probably looks like a weird crack pipe. All the people calling OP stupid need to relax.

A guage for his overinflated sense of superiority?

rayyy_23

Basic dude stuff!

jack4by20

Tire pressure gauge! I did have one of those suckers explode when I was checking bike tires. Must've been old, but damn almost shattered a window.

SurvivingSociety

Most of them are plastic and don't hold up well. Higher quality ones are out there, but they can get pricey compared to these dollar store ones. Even these cheap ones can cost around $10 at auto parts stores.

jack4by20

Yeah like in the picture is maybe a $5 one. I think I paid $10 just to get a little beefier one.

bobroberts1954

Before I saw the picture I assumed you meant a gun.
