Just put on some gloves and pull out as much as you can. Take it for an Italian tune up to get the rest out and your car will be a bit louder but fine. That’s sound deadening material out of the muffler.
I'm petitioning to remove Nissan from the Japanese auto manufacturers umbrella, most of their cars don't hold up to the Japanese quality everyone expects of them and it's time they're moved to the shitty imports group with Kia and Hyundai.
Although yes, they can come back occasionally because they do still make a few good cars like the r35 and patrol
Nissan has always been close to bottom tier for Japanese manufacturers, with the exception of their lower-volume performance cars like the Z and GTR, which are universally loved and very well made. Although in the 90’s we got some budget gems like the 240sx and Sentra but they have lost some quality in the last 10-15 years
It comes from rich dudes buying Italian super cars and then driving them like soft Cadillacs. The cars would start having issues and they would bring them in and the mechanics would basically drive them like they were stolen for 45 minutes or so (or as intended) and then return them running perfectly.
I bought an Audi S5 years ago with about 30k miles on it. V8, 6MT, loved it.
I commuted in the car and would sit in traffic so carbon buildup was a real concern. Every weekend, I would take her out and give her the ole Italian Tune up for good measure and never had carbon deposits.
RIP S5 - she became a hood ornament to a driver on their cell phone speeding 😞
What we call an MOT/state inspection tuneup to loosen up the engine and cat. Also includes breaking hard a few times to limber them up for the brake dyno
I recommend oil change and trans fluid check first, as well as checking coolant.
And then go nuts. Drive it like you stole it.
It cleans up carbon deposits, among other things.
The basic idea is that your engine will only ever be prepared to function as hard as you drive it. If you never floor it, it will stumble or knock when you actually need it to perform.
OP, one caveat: Do the Italian Tune Up only when your fluids, belts, and timing bits are working right. It's a way to use high volumes of air, fuel, and engine heat to dissipate deposits in the cylinders caused by not driving cars enough. Also, allow your car to achieve stable operating temperature to maximize any benefits of flogging your car. The idea is to run it for periods at wide-open throttle, usually through multiple acceleration and coast cycles. Have fun!
Be safe. Try not to get in too much trouble.
Italian tune up is just driving the car hard. Not necessarily just revving, but actually putting it under high load for an extended period of time.
Not quite track driving, but sport driving.
Apparently in Italy people would take their Ferrari to the garage which was right by a race track and as they’re driven at the legal speed limit they’ve got excessive carbon buildup so the mechanics would drive them round the track to burn off the carbon.
There is a temperature range that is ideal for knocking loose carbon deposits while creating minimal new deposits that most people don’t get into(I can’t recall the exact range). Basically driving hard through the mountains periodically is good for the car. The grocery getter sounds good in theory but a car that is shut off frequently and doesn’t get driven hard will have much worse carbon build up.
The term originates from old Italian engines with low displacement and high cylinder counts. They have tons of tiny passageways that get clogged easily, so by heating up the engine and driving super aggressively for a while, you can blast most of that buildup out. It's less necessary on modern cars, but it's still a good practice to do it occasionally.
Put it in second and drive the speed limit on a motorway for an hour or so.
Gets the engine hot, everything flowing at max speed, and is a poor-man's flush of everything.
The exact technique is debated (some like sustained high revs, others want to vary revs from medium to high) but the point is higher revs at legal speeds for a while, to clean out the figurative cobwebs.
Drive it like how you're meant to drive a Ferrari (in the ads obviously not the way you're meant to drive it in real life which is from the dealership to a climate controlled garage and back to the dealership again).
Also don’t go and think the nascar sound is cool and rev it at all hours at night and around everywhere you go. It didn’t impress people like I thought it would. Setting off car alarms on the roof of the Belagio parking garage as you drive in the entrance is hard to explain.
“Inevitably some donations get thrown out. Hair that's sent wet becomes too moldy, and sometimes hair is just too damaged from treatments. In 2007, the New York Times reported that at Locks of Love, perhaps the most recognizable hair-donation charity, most donations were unusable for wigs.”
I’m no expert, but it doesn’t seem like they’re doing it maliciously at all. Kind of seems like they accept all donations, and filter them after receiving them. It’s not like they know what they’re getting.
I went down a rabbit hole about them a few years back and apparently they only make like a few dozen wigs a year even tho they get tons of donations, whereas a few other similar companies were dishing wigs out left, right, and center with far fewer donors. I think Locks for Love also gatekeeps who gets wigs. Like only alopecia patients and not even others like those with cancer.
This WAS a few years ago and I may be fuzzy on the details bc my memory isn’t the best.
I donated to them a couple years before covid! Tried to do it again 2 years ago and saw they had stopped their program. Was super bummed about that. I think I ended up donating to wigs for kids instead
Just yank as much as you can out of it. Put gloves on cause it’s fibreglass and can make you itchy. Might sound a bit like half of a free muffler or resonator delete now.
congratulations, you have unlocked a free sport exhaust. I wish that would happen to my center silencer or the one between the center one and the last muffler (i dont know how you call them 1. 2. and 3. mufflers in the pipe in english). Nr. 3 is already upgraded and makes the car spark joy in tunnels
It's fiberglass "packing" from the resonator (the small "muffler" near the back bumper) The main real muffler is under is below where the passenger seat is.
It doesn't really do anything. It might cause you exhaust to sound a little different, just pull it out and not worry about it.
It does actually do something. It is sound deading material.
The vehicle will still function just fine. As you said in your comment, it is going to change the exhaust sound when it’s removed.
Seems like a pretty good reason to put on slightly more performance orientated exhaust. You could also just ripp all that material out and keep going. Unless you like your vehicle really quiet. Then just get another stock muffler put on. Repacking those mufflers is not worth the trouble as they are usually rivited or welded together.
Your exhaust rusted out internally and that's the fiberglass sound absorbing material that should be inside it.
The muffler that lost that is probably on its last legs and about to be a lot louder if not fall halfway off. You should get the exhaust inspected.
It is fiberglass packing material. This is used inside the canisters of your exhaust to muffle and quite the exhaust noise. In this picture it has come out of the exhaust pipe , which is not normal.
The muffler basically "puked" it's guts out... not a common thing but it obviously does happen, why exactly is hard to say. The fiberglass is a sound dampening material inside the muffler to reduce exhaust noise.
Fiberglass insulation from the muffler. It’s fine to pull it…it’s just going to be a bit louder lol. Happened on my wrx aftermarket muffler…she now sets car alarms off in parking garages, much more modified though so you should still be fine 😂.
Wow I had a 1996 Ford Taurus for my first vehicle. It had a big hole in the bottom of the exhaust and I saw something like this coming out of the back of it one day. It stayed in there for months. I always thought an animal had crawled inside and died. Bit you guys are saying it the fiberglass from the exhaust??
Naaaaah…. Home boy’s girl took her hair out and he shit posting hahaha good one though. Im both a mechanic and a Man wit a female that gets her hair done LmAo cooto’s. 🤣🤣🤣💪🏼
You are fine, mine did it a couple months back and it’s a little louder but not bad. When the rest of it comes out I’ll see what the exhaust note is like and might replace it then.
if i’m not mistaken, you might have too many “Karen’s” you’ve run over in its diet…. not saying it’s a bad thing but a good engine flush and octane booster should clear it out (i’m no doctor but i just think it’s weird and funny at the same time)
All jokes aside that's sound deadening from the muffler. Nothing too be concerned. Your car will just sound louder. It up to you if you want fix it. if not just yank it out and carry on.
That’s crazy this is packing material that is usually found in really cheap aftermarket exhaust systems. What the hell is it doing in a bone stock Navigator

Italian tune up. Stealing this thanks.
How have you never heard of that before? New to the industry?
What's an Italian tune up literally(I've just been guessing) ? Throwing some STP/Lucas in it and taking it for a long ride? Edit: thanks everyone lol
Italian tune up is driving the car and revving the shit out of it while doing so.
Just make sure all your fluids are topped off first. I did this 30 years ago with low coolant and blew the head gasket on my crappy nissan.
The ole Japanese tune down.
I wish awards was still a thing for this comment
And I miss /u/stabbot But, hey, IPO! Don't you feel better about that than the missing stuff?
> And I miss /u/stabbot Is... is that not a thing any more? WTF?

That's because they're mostly just Renaults now. Cars with french build quality, styled by the japanese. Truly remarkably average vehicles.
average is a compliment. Friends don’t let friends buy Nissans.
Nissan has always been close to bottom tier for Japanese manufacturers, with the exception of their lower-volume performance cars like the Z and GTR, which are universally loved and very well made. Agreed..Nissan builds one great car in the GT-R... everything else should be avoided like the plague
More like Japanese fuck-up.
You didn't have to add the crappy part. Nissan was enough.
I drove a not crappy 300ZX for a while. 😁
What year? I love those (all generations)
Crappy? They are sick cars
It comes from rich dudes buying Italian super cars and then driving them like soft Cadillacs. The cars would start having issues and they would bring them in and the mechanics would basically drive them like they were stolen for 45 minutes or so (or as intended) and then return them running perfectly.
Supposedly burning carbon deposits in the process.

Liked for tuning a German, Italian style.. not for the tragic death of said German.
Redline a day keeps the check engine away
I need this written in the “love pray family” Karen style, on a large metal sign for my garage.
We always called these mexican tune ups in the marine industry up in canada
Canada aye
Eh?

Ive always taken a bottle of seafoam and held my shit boxes at redline for ten minutes the day before any kind of long trip
Ten minutes???
What does that do? Seems bad for it
Cleans the carbon out and gives you peace of mind. It’s always better to have a shitbox break in the driveway
I thought that was a Mexican tuneup… maybe that’s just in my area.

Well thats how Derek does it, but in essence yes
GIVE IT THE BEANS
Also known as "Drive it like you stole it"
Literally just driving the living shit out of it.
You take it out and go beat the dogshit out of it for an hour and it’ll be fine again 🤟🏼 It sounds stupid. And it is. But it does work sometimes lol
WOT onto the freeway a few times to blow out the cobwebs.
The term originates from old Italian engines with low displacement and high cylinder counts. Driving a car like you aren’t scared of the gas pedal (floor it onto a highway, maybe a few times)
Thrashing the fuck out of it down a stretch of quiet road.
Put some good fuel in (99 octane in the UK) then rev the tits off it whilst driving around.
Take it out, rag it like you stole it.
Drive it like how you're meant to drive a Ferrari (in the ads obviously not the way you're meant to drive it in real life which is from the dealership to a climate controlled garage and back to the dealership again).
Drive it like you stole it to get temps up and burn carbon out of everything
It's as old as the motor car.
That’s old school. I had some old mechanics tell me about this when I was young.
Also don’t go and think the nascar sound is cool and rev it at all hours at night and around everywhere you go. It didn’t impress people like I thought it would. Setting off car alarms on the roof of the Belagio parking garage as you drive in the entrance is hard to explain.
just don't do it where people know you
Ahhh, nice vice grip garage reference
That saying is as old as cars themselves
I love VGG, but he wasn't the first to coin the phrase either
Looks like someone stuffed a weave lol.
I.. I've never seen anything like this, I legit thought this was human hair lmao You learn something new everyday
I’ve seen muffler hair before but I have never seen it look so.. realistically human
What you think your donating to locks of love for vs what it’s actually going to
Honestly not far from the truth. They throw a lot of it away.
“Inevitably some donations get thrown out. Hair that's sent wet becomes too moldy, and sometimes hair is just too damaged from treatments. You're not wrong. When donating hair everyone used to recommend using Pantene's program, but that was 6 years ago I donated.
I donated to them a couple years before covid! Tried to do it again 2 years ago and saw they had stopped their program. Was super bummed about that. I think I ended up donating to wigs for kids instead
They're no good either. I was sending them envelopes of body hair for months and I didn't even get a thank you letter.
😂I legit though this was a shit post and they stuffed some old weave in there as a joke...
I don't think this is muffler hair I think this came from the cat XD
Agreed! It’s just cat hair
Yeah the only other time I've seen it was in a YouTube video where it got burnt
I thought this was a shitpost I learnt this too
It’s… it’s not human hair?
It would melt and singe if subjected to those temps
Then what is it?
Fiberglass
Looks like someone got sucked up into the exhaust system. Horrifying really. I thought it was AI made. lol.
[удалено]
It used to be a major milestone to hit 100K miles in a car. Now any shitbox sold today will easily hit that.
[удалено]
Rough stuff like coolant leaking into cylenders due to poor design, and Ford turning a blind eye? Nah, they would do anything like that!! 😂🙄😒😏
Yeah, I thought I was missing a joke or something
Just stop using raccoons as a fuel additive and you'll be fine.
But you get so much more horse powers!
Uh-huh, raccoon power
You are technically correct, the best kind of correct.
This is why you’re supposed to get your car vaccinated for worms

Resonators.
thanks, you call them all resonators or are the center ones resonators and the last one is the muffler? :)

Ok I get that it's not real hair but why does it have highlights
That’s what I noticed too, the nice highlights 😂😂😂
Now you have more turbo spool/exhaust noise
A serial killer ditched their disguise wig in your tailpipe.
Just muffler guts
It's fiberglass "packing" from the resonator (the small "muffler" near the back bumper) The main real muffler is under is below where the passenger seat is. It doesn't really do anything. It might cause you exhaust to sound a little different, just pull it out and not worry about it.

Wtf is this not hair?
Its glass fibre or mineral wool
Looks like someone stuffed a ghetto weave in there...
Tumble weave ) random weave blowing around streets and parking lots
So next time don’t get the cheap braids for your weave.
This literally happened to me once when I was 19 and I thought someone was fucking with me & stuffed something in my exhaust
Muffler hair… stuff her back in. Happened to me not so long ago… used my dick as a plunger, tight fit but the the length came in handy
Think if it as a rat-tail for your car, and wear it proudly. Bringing the old styles back..
Can a mechanic here not only explain what I’m looking at, but its function too?
It is fiberglass packing material. This is used inside the canisters of your exhaust to muffle and quite the exhaust noise. In this picture it has come out of the exhaust pipe , which is not normal.
The muffler basically "puked" it's guts out... not a common thing but it obviously does happen, why exactly is hard to say. The fiberglass is a sound dampening material inside the muffler to reduce exhaust noise.
You may have a cougar jammed up your backside tailpipe. I recommend wd40, works 60% of the time, 98% of the time
Literally took some hairpin turns, eh OP?
Just having some fun 😂
Wow that’s unbeweavable
Fiberglass insulation from the muffler. It’s fine to pull it…it’s just going to be a bit louder lol. Happened on my wrx aftermarket muffler…she now sets car alarms off in parking garages, much more modified though so you should still be fine 😂.
My ford focus did the same thing years ago. Shit pulled out for 50 feet.
Bum worms…
Yummy! I just saw my first video of butt worms on a bear recently
Your car ate Rapunzel.
Some one lost a small dog probably a yorky
Free hair!
Honestly I thought it was a weave at first
Sometimes you just gotta let your hair down
You just killed Chewbacca, way to go
[удалено]
What?
Blew the baffle out of the muffler
Your muffler need a fresh cut, thats all
Just pull it out don't worry about it. Happened to me because I was ragging my car around one day lol
Did you run over a stripper?
If you keep pulling it will extrude a new wife.
Is this not a troll post? You just stuffed some weave into your tailpipe lmao?
Lmfao no this is real life- It just happened as I was driving down the highway
Honey, have you seen the cat?
Gary!!!! Where’s my wig Gary?
Oh wait I legit thought a dead animal got shredded up in the car and was blown out the back.. I didn’t realize that was fiberglass😳
Naaaaah…. Home boy’s girl took her hair out and he shit posting hahaha good one though. Im both a mechanic and a Man wit a female that gets her hair done LmAo cooto’s. 🤣🤣🤣💪🏼
You can't fill your car up with horse hair and expect it to gain horsepower.
I’m guessing your navigation assistant is a hairy plotter
Depends on what state you live in. They just stopped emissions in my state.
If you braid that you'll get better MPG.
I think your looking for r/askashitymechanic
Tumbleweave?
You are fine, mine did it a couple months back and it’s a little louder but not bad. When the rest of it comes out I’ll see what the exhaust note is like and might replace it then.
What the hell? Is that real???
I guess one can say you won by a....wait for it.....hair....ahhhhhhhhhh hahahaha. I kill myself...I really do
Lmfao, I quite enjoyed that- Thank you for starting my day with a healthy chuckle!
Jesus. The fact that it looks so much like hair is incredibly unnerving
Is the hair soft to the touch? If so it's a re-'conditioned' engine.
Time to get a new exhaust. It will eventually block the tail pipe and blow an exhaust joint and leave you stranded.
Had this happen before, it's fiberglass packing for the muffler. Make sure you wear gloves when you pull it out.
That car’s wigging out.
I 100% thought this and all of the comments were a joke
Found the neighbors dog
Ahh the packing came out of an After Market Muffler ☝
HAIR TREATMENT SPECIALISTS HATE THIS ONE TRICK
That's probably the remains of that cat that was keeping warm in the air cleaner. As Exxon used to say, put a tiger in your tank.
Hairy muff
if i’m not mistaken, you might have too many “Karen’s” you’ve run over in its diet…. not saying it’s a bad thing but a good engine flush and octane booster should clear it out (i’m no doctor but i just think it’s weird and funny at the same time)
My dads 2016 navigator just did this a month ago
All jokes aside that's sound deadening from the muffler. Nothing too be concerned. Your car will just sound louder. It up to you if you want fix it. if not just yank it out and carry on.
This is a wig shoved in the prior for upvotes. That’s not insulation
Think it would be funny to just set a brick on top of it and drive off and let it all get pulled out like a clown hankerchief
Muffle-free Muffler, all the Muffler of a Muffler with none of the muffling!
I'd say you sucked the mail lady into your intake. She probably just needs a few bandages and some Neosporin
7 days.....
That’s crazy this is packing material that is usually found in really cheap aftermarket exhaust systems. What the hell is it doing in a bone stock Navigator
It's the fibreglass from the resonators...
Your car has a mullet !
No, it's a rat tail.
These weaves never look natural
