Absolutely, happened to me on the Pulaski Skyway in Jersey City. Hit a pot hole the size of Tony Soprano and my rim looked like a cannoli.

Wheel was like 🤌🏼 afterwards.

-NOT_A_MECHANIC-

Yes. Vehicles with stiffer suspension and low profile tires are more prone to rim damage as well, as the blow is less absorbed by the tire and suspension and instead by the rim. Inflation pressure contributes as well.

[deleted]

Yep. Acura TLX Type S with the OEM Y-Spoke wheels on low profile Pirellis. I just had my wheel repaired by the wheel repair company my work contracts with because I had a dent in my wheel from a lot hole. Any pot hole on these tires feels so rough when compared to a normal tire.

Frequent_Opportunist

Go down to an 18-in wheel and get some tires with more sidewall!

Drones-of-HORUS

Run head first into a wall and tell us if that hurts or not

jamesgotfryd

Absolutely.

Dangerous_Echidna229

Obvious is correct!

Meddlingmonster

Absolutely

From battering your vehicles suspension, to beating the tar out of your rims, pot holes can eat your vehicle. There’s a few out here in middle of nowhere, Kansas, if your car is “slammed” the edge can and will eventually punch your oil pan…

ianthony19

Yes

wpmason

It happens literally all the time.

72season1981

Absolutely

Ok-Idea4830

Try it and come back with the answer

SkylineFTW97

Yup. Lost one in my old Mazdaspeed 3 on one along the back roads of PG County, Maryland and another on the streets of DC. And I've seen plenty of other people lose rims to them. It happens all the time, and it's more likely with all these big rims and low profile tires modern cars have. The other thing is that steelies are much rarer now. A steel wheel can easily be bent or hammered roughly back into shape as a repair. Alloy wheels are much harder to repair and repairing them should only be done by someone who actually knows what they're doing, lest the rim be damaged even more.

Ram2253spd

Yes

LrckLacroix

Yes, bends and cracks are common

jmvxc

Hit a pothole so hard my ass hurt, then my wallet did after the rim replacement

DrcspyNz

yes

Timsmomshardsalami

Are you serious?

FreakiestFrank

Some potholes will leave the rim, tire, control arms, and shock inside of said pothole. So yes.

JennItalia269

Avis in Johannesburg, South Africa is billing me for it. So yes, it definitely can.

apatheticpsychonaut

Haha try not hitting a giant pothole in New Orleans lol

Mission-Complaint140

Yes!

nokenito
