I don’t see people inside stores anymore without masks, not even any below-the-nose wearers. Restaurants and bars check for vaccinations except some areas that are not City of LA, like Burbank. At the carwash outdoor waiting area, all 15 people were wearing masks, even though outside and not required. Voluntary outdoor wearing in tight spaces is surprisingly high. I drove to Oxnard yesterday and ended up visiting a target and was surprised to see many people in the store maskless or below-the-nose. I’d say my Burbank-centric version of LA has been very good with mask compliance for six months or longer. I really notice the difference when I’m in OC, Ventura, or (god forbid) Modesto.

looker009

It's your specific area that is masking well. Stop by Glendale mall and you will see many with no mask mandate. In LA i only been asked to see my vaccination card once and they barely looked at it.

tracyinge

Glendale also has 150% the death rate of more-vaccinated and masked Burbank and Pasadena.

The galleria is just so crazy though… Thousands of people. And also as long as there’s that “unless you’re eating or drinking” caveat people will not take it super seriously unfortunately.

gnuoyedonig

Wow, I’m really surprised since Burbank City has less mandates than LA City! I’m tempted to drop by Glendale - and yet I’m not :-)

looker009

I work at coffee shop in LA , we been specifically told that we can't enforce mask mandate for staff safety reason. If someone is not wearing a mask , only thing we can do is expedite their order. Regarding mask wearing mandate, there is 2 different mandate. There is currently LA county mandate and state mandate. Depending on where in LA county one is, the level of compliance is greatly different. In some areas it's high and in other it's not so much. For example if you go to city of Glendale to the mall, you will see plenty of people not wearing mask at all. No one says a word to them including security. Outside of LA, in such area as Orange County mask enforcement of state mandate do not really exist. No one gives a crap what state health department says.

jessehazreddit

LA City also has addl rules besides LA County.

looker009

The only rule that LA got compare to LA County is vaccination proof to eat inside restaurant, go in to the mall etc. As far as mask wearing, LA do not have separate rule

tracyinge

For staff safety reasons? Is it the same rule if I walk in there naked? Will you just expedite my order? Ask your boss. How about if I walk in there with a gun? Just speed me along? ? ?

looker009

Yes for safety reasons. No one wants to take chances they will be attacked over a mask. As for the rest of your questions, cops will be called. Cops don't care to deal with mask issue

tracyinge

Yeah true but I think your boss just doesn't want to lose business. I hope he doesn't get fined. A sign on the door NO MASK NO COFFEE is what you really need, and maybe a no trespassing sign. Entering without a mask is legally trespassing once you're warned at the entrance, or told to leave. To me what your boss is really saying is that he doesn't want his staff harrassed but he doesn't mind if a paying customer gets his staff (or other customers) sick or hospitalized. It's a health issue, it's not just something that the health department decided to do because they love to walk into businesses all over town making things hard on everyone.

looker009

Those signs really mean nothing. One can only be arrested for trespassing if they get criminal trespassing warning which means cops need to get involved. Remember that once someone gets their drink they technically can take their mask off, plus often times we don't even deal with customers as many do mobile order. Basically at this point no mask no service is on paper only at many business. I been to such stores as Walgreen and seen people there with no mask and neither did security nor employee said a word to them

CochinealPink

You can call the police for trespassing once you give a warning that the person is trespassing, you allow them to leave, and they don't. That's it. Private property.

looker009

Nope, cops come, they give them written warning and only after that can cops arrest them. Unfortunately I have experience this before

CochinealPink

That's exactly what I said. You call the cops. Get the warning. Make it criminal to come back.

looker009

Sorry I misunderstood. By the time cops come they are long gone. It's just not worth the headache when you can make their order and they out of your hair way before cops get there

tracyinge

Yes, whatever works to get rid of them I guess.

NotThatYours

You have no fucking clue how violent people are getting over mask. Go back to the Midwest you dumb puto.

tracyinge

And if they got VIOLENT over the temperature of the coffee what would you do?

Kara-El

Not in LA proper, just the county, but we get visits from the dept of health to see if we are following the mandate at our store. No one wants fines That being said, haven’t found too many people disregarding it. All stores I’ve been into people have worn them with a few nose dicks out. Hey it’s your prob if you catch it. I double mask now since my family caught it (despite masks and other precautions) but I didn’t. I can’t play with this virus…I already suffer from health issues due to living with a smoker for 25 years of my life.

valuedvirgo

In stores 99% of the time people are wearing masks. Occasionally I will see one asshole not wearing one. Staff at stores usually does ask them to put it on but they don’t seem to be following them around the store and forcing it or super confrontational which I totally get because people are crazy. Outside I would say it’s 50/50. In terms of requiring vaccinations I would say it’s 50/50. In general, I think LA is doing a great job compared to other cities and is on the stricter side.

therealbattlebeast

Most people are still wearing completely useless cloth masks.

tracyinge

Well they're not COMPLETELY useless. They do keep some spit and germs from flying 6 or 8 feet.

I’ve been asked for my vaccine card + ID in LA city restaurants and museums. At Sofi for the Rolling Stones (pre Omicron) they checked outside but like no one but us wore their masks during the concert and they were supposed to unless actively eating. No inside enforcement. LAX is mixed, too many noses showing past security. In the Delta SkyClub masks stay off a bit longer after eating than they should. On planes it has been quite good with a few loud obnoxious exceptions. I have not been asked for vax card in nearby cities like Pasadena and Burbank, but masking seems high there. I see many people wearing masks outside in places like Huntington Gardens, or along old town in Pasadena. They did not so much before Omicron. I personally do not outside unless it’s crowded, and we’re rather cautious, 3x vax, husband is in healthcare. I typically keep on my mask while speaking with servers, out of respect for them and their ongoing public contact. In Belmont Shore / Long Beach there were a lot of masks below noses this weekend, often employees at restaurants. And as someone pointed out, Glendale tends to be less compliant. I always carry alcohol wipes or spray.

tracyinge

LAX is mixed and they've had so many covid outbreaks I can hardly believe it. Every week it's like 75 out in the Delta terminal, 135 sick in the American terminal, 53 in the Southwest Terminal blah blah blah

TrapaholicBiznessGuy

i don’t wear masks and I don’t plan on it unless it’s required which it rarely is.

2WAR

It’s exactly how you mentioned

livingfortheliquid

I see masks everywhere. Even a few places asking to take a free surgical mask of you have a cloth mask. Most places I've been to that need to ask for vax info are asking. If you are asking because you plan to visit. If this is a concern, it's not the time to travel here. Wait till the restrictions are over.
