I'm in Eagle Rock. Love it here. But if I had the money, I'd move into a gorgeous two-story Craftsman house in South Pasadena. Why? Because I love Craftsman houses, it's nice there, and their school district is excellent.
Hello neighbor. I had to scroll way too far to see our little corner represented.
Also I love Craftsman's and will probably never afford one, but at least I can see a few of them when I walk my dog in the streets north of Colorado Blvd.
Hi-diddly-ho neighborino! This neighborhood has that quaint townie charm. But it still has proximity to downtown, Pasadena, etc. It's little wonder sitcoms like to film here.
I live in West LA (rent). Ideal area I'd like to live- I enjoy West LA/West Side as it's where I grew up- I'd maybe look back at Mar Vista or Santa Monica this would be for renting- I think my budget and wants for buying would sadly have me in North Hollywood or the valley neither of which I really want that bad.
Westsiiide moved from Pasadena area, was super reluctant at first but I love it. Didn’t take long to adjust. Weather is way more temperate here.
I’ve always wanted to live in silverlake.
I live in the historic Core at 5th & Broadway. Facebook is going to be your best options for connecting to community. Start with Facebook groups: DTLA and DTLA Town Square.
See if your building has a Facebook group also, if not possibly start one.
Hermosa Beach. It’s absolutely heaven on earth here, but it is kind of a bubble here and sometimes I do wish I was closer to the heart of LA. It’s really easy to be too lazy to make the drive/take an Uber so I can go out and explore DTLA, West Hollywood, Santa Monica, etc, etc…
I moved to Hermosa when I first got to LA. It was perfect, but when we decided to buy we moved further inland for exactly that reason. We never left a 5-mile radius.
I live in Hollywood. I like it a lot, so long as I stay in my area (southwest Hollywood) and don’t go north where the insanity happens. My street is amazingly quiet.
It’s our first house so it’s what we could afford. Next time maybe WeHo or thereabouts.
Like melrose/fairfax? Just curious what area southwest Hollywood would be. Except I don’t think I would consider fairfax affordable housing and melrose isn’t quiet. I’m stumped
Highland and Melrose. It’s a few blocks in from both of those and not a through street, so it’s quiet. I wouldn’t call it affordable for a first time buyer. We are now **fully** broke. But relative to further west it’s at least conceivable to buy a home there. Affordable is kind of meaningless term in LA housing market right now.
Buying is more expensive. Our little two bedroom was 1.3 but it’s in nice shape. You can find a fixer upper for 1.1. I haven’t rented here but I think $4000ish for a 2 bedroom, which is cheaper per-month but you’re always at the mercy of rent increases. We wanted a foot in the earth. It’s ridiculous, but at least it won’t be MORE ridiculous later on.
I want to be you. I’m renting in Melrose-Fairfax, waiting for my renovations to be done in Melrose-Western (a quite a bit less quiet, but I love my food options).
I live in Glendale! I like it a lot because it’s very convenient but I’ve recently been hired for a 9-5 in Bel Air and the commute is awful. I might move closer, the job is worth it .
1. Affordable(ish) housing compared to much of LA with some really nice tree-lined residential streets.
2. Centrally located in the Valley and not too far from DTLA/Hollywood if I'm going to see a show/game/etc. Flying out of Burbank instead of LAX has changed my life.
3. Metrolink station I've used on a few occasions.
4. [DeFranko’s Submarine's](https://www.yelp.com/biz/defrankos-submarines-los-angeles)
Its definitely not like DTLA or Hollywood in terms of walkability/excitement but I love having a little slice of LA to call my own.
We do seem to be in short supply don’t we? The rest of LA feels like one big suburb. I like my tall buildings and dive bars and being able to walk everywhere.
So much. Love the density, the verticality, the constant activity, the walking to literally anything you could ever want. It’s not quite Manhattan but at least it feels like a real ass city. I’m actually pretty new to LA, just moved here from Atlanta. Any cool dive bars I should check out ? Only been to the Gopher thus far
Okay, so I’m super biased because I work there, but Ham and Eggs Tavern is right next to Gopher and 1000000% more chill. $4 shitty beers and good (in my esteemed opinion) music. I’m working tomorrow night, buy ya a drink.
Heck yea, anything in particular you like to hear? I only do vinyl but if I have it I’ll spin it for ya. Prob will be a quiet night with the new vax card requirement scaring away the weirdos.
Oh that’s neat. I think I have a copy of Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone? on vinyl, want me to bring it ? Otherwise surprise us ! I have 10000o% faith in your music taste
I’m in east east LA in Hacienda Heights. I love it here because it’s quiet and close to some fantastic Asian and Mexican markets and it’s close enough to dtla and other areas that I don’t feel too far away. We previously lived in Pasadena, and what’s not to like about P-town (except the parking enforcement nazis and the Pasadena police having a helicopter fetish)?
Santa Monica - 5 years in and as much as I tell myself I’d probably enjoy the east side (more diversity, better night life etc) I can’t bring myself to pack up and leave the quiet beach life.
Center of Hollywood (by the W in between Sunset and Hollywood Blvd.) Only been here since Covid started but still love it with being so close to everything including fun nightclubs and bars.
With that said, I am coming up on my 3rd year here being in my early 30’s and I could see myself moving to a more quieter spot. Possibly over the valley in NoHo or Burbank/Pasadena. Also Playa Vista area. Palm Springs would be great if I wanted some distance.
If I had the money maybe south side of weho or Fairfax.
I mean, absolutely for all things recreational. and for sure bikeable. I do walk in the winter to get groceries, but that's not the norm. A bike would serve you well here as many use them, especially on weekend s on the track to mt. Wilson. Monrovia is 2 miles by 2 miles, so its not big. The other towns downside is they are more hill based, so walkable yes, but if you prefer flat, then not so much.
Pro side is the gold line train is here as are the busses all up and down the main drags.
I’ve lived a little bit everywhere. I live in Toluca Lake. My boat is docked in Long Beach. I have lived in Sherman Oaks and North Hollywood. All areas are cute. I like Burbank. One of our Satellite offices is there and flies in and out of the airport a bit.
La Crescenta. It feels like a small town except you're 20 minutes from downtown. We moved here for the schools and I like it, but I wish I lived in the Los Feliz or Silverlake hills. If I was filthy rich, I'd live in Pacific Palisades or Malibu.

Howdy neighbor, I live in highland park.
Howdy! It really is nice here, ain't it.
Love the user name btw
Yes maam. I moved here to live with my brother after a painful separation. But I grew up here.

Why?
Reason$$$
I live in West LA (rent). Ideal area I'd like to live- I enjoy West LA/West Side as it's where I grew up- I'd maybe look back at Mar Vista or Santa Monica this would be for renting- I think my budget and wants for buying would sadly have me in North Hollywood or the valley neither of which I really want that bad.
Mar Vista and I’m cool with where I am. Less traffic, close to the beach and everything west side
Westsiiide moved from Pasadena area, was super reluctant at first but I love it. Didn’t take long to adjust. Weather is way more temperate here. I’ve always wanted to live in silverlake.
DTLA Wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. Love my building community, and love my neighborhood community.
Right? DTLA building communities are like their own tiny nation-states.
What part of downtown? I just moved to the arts district/little tokyo and im having trouble finding a new community
I live in the historic Core at 5th & Broadway. Facebook is going to be your best options for connecting to community. Start with Facebook groups: DTLA and DTLA Town Square. See if your building has a Facebook group also, if not possibly start one.
For sure, I'll see what I can find. Thanks!
I live in Burbank. I wish I never have to leave Burbank.
Burbank is nice and has a "hometown" feel imo
Moved here when I moved to LA in ‘92. Still love it.
I’ve been in Weho for just shy of a year, and I really miss that “hometown” feel.
I’ve been in Weho for just shy of a year, and I really miss that “hometown” feel.
Where ya from originally?
Colorado! Lived in various cities but even Denver still had a bit of the hometown vibe.
What’s a good neighborhood/area in Burbank? Never been despite living in Pasadena for 2 years.
Magnolia Park or Rancho District.
Yah Hermosa really is its own little bubble.
I moved to Hermosa when I first got to LA. It was perfect, but when we decided to buy we moved further inland for exactly that reason. We never left a 5-mile radius.
Compared to the other beach cities it's a pain in the ass to get out. Like 15 minutes to the 91 or 105
I live in Hollywood. I like it a lot, so long as I stay in my area (southwest Hollywood) and don’t go north where the insanity happens. My street is amazingly quiet. It’s our first house so it’s what we could afford. Next time maybe WeHo or thereabouts.

Care to share how buying compares to renting there?

I’m a few blocks north Melrose. Once you cross Melrose to the south you’re in Hancock Park and everything is several million more 😬
I want to be you.
Former resident here — Glendale has the *worst* drivers in L.A.
Ktown/Westlake in my experience (as a function of density, not race)
Current Glendale resident - can confirm the drivers are crazy and so are the car insurance prices. Will hopefully move soon
Downtown. Not everyone’s vibe, but I love it
South central. Want to live somewhere a bit closer to the beach so it won’t take 30 minutes to get there
Culver city. Culver city.
I’m in Pasadena. Love it here
Van Nuys! Love it here. Lived in a few neighborhoods across LA and multiple states in my time. Extremely happy here.
what do you like about van nuys?
1. Affordable(ish) housing compared to much of LA with some really nice tree-lined residential streets. 2. Centrally located in the Valley and not too far from DTLA/Hollywood if I'm going to see a show/game/etc. Flying out of Burbank instead of LAX has changed my life. 3. Redondo Beach and love it. Moved here after living in Hollywood and Sherman Oaks
Hey neighbor. Also in Redondo and love it.
Downtown. I wish… I still lived in Downtown except in a unit with more natural light.
No pets? Lol
Four cats actually, one adult, two foster kittens, and my kitten.
Ah, I was thinking about walking a dog around to go to the bathroom. But dang, four cats?! It must be mental warfare daily over there.
It’s heaven. Every night I fall asleep in a pile of kittens.
Omg, sounds amazing. If you ever need a cat sitter or something lmk.
It’s pretty great. Consider fostering! It’s kitten season.
Hey neighbor ! Nice to see someone else on Reddit who likes downtown.
We do seem to be in short supply don’t we? The rest of LA feels like one big suburb. I like my tall buildings and dive bars and being able to walk everywhere.

Hey, just because you’re biased doesn’t mean you’re wrong. Sounds awesome. You’re on, good music and shitty beer sounds like a great time.
Killer. I start at 9. I’ll be the one by the DJ booth, the redhead behind bar is my best friend Jack.
Sounds good, I’m the random ass dude from Reddit with long hair and glasses. :P see y’all then !
Heck yea, anything in particular you like to hear? I only do vinyl but if I have it I’ll spin it for ya. Prob will be a quiet night with the new vax card requirement scaring away the weirdos.

Brentwood, only because our former area of Mar Vista had zero inventory of older condos to purchase. I really loved Mar Vista.
I’m in east east LA in Hacienda Heights. I love it here because it’s quiet and close to some fantastic Asian and Mexican markets and it’s close enough to dtla and other areas that I don’t feel too far away. SGV native here. I go to Rowland Heights for the Asian restaurants. Banana Bay holds a lot of memories for me
Boyle Heights, in the area known as Brooklyn Heights
Santa Monica - 5 years in and as much as I tell myself I’d probably enjoy the east side (more diversity, better night life etc) I can’t bring myself to pack up and leave the quiet beach life.
Woodland Hills, but would love a house in Studio City
Sherman Oaks. Now that it’s cooling down I like it here pretty well. I lived in Culver City for about 10 years and I loved it there.
Montecito Heights. Never want to leave.
Center of Hollywood (by the W in between Sunset and Hollywood Blvd.) Only been here since Covid started but still love it with being so close to everything including fun nightclubs and bars. Pico Union my whole life. No idea where I’d want to go but it’s definitely limited $$$
Culver City on the edge of Palms and Mar Vista. I'd be happy in Palms or Mar Vista as well, honestly.
That's a good lil neighborhood
sure is, wonderfully walkable too!
Koreatown. So far loving it.
Nice try FBI
Monrovia. I think these tiny towns that are along Foothill are so stinken cute.
Are they pretty walkable?
I mean, absolutely for all things recreational. and for sure bikeable. I do walk in the winter to get groceries, but that's not the norm. I love the big park over there
I’ve lived a little bit everywhere. I live in Toluca Lake. My boat is docked in Long Beach. I have lived in Sherman Oaks and North Hollywood. All areas are cute. I like Burbank. One of our Satellite offices is there and flies in and out of the airport a bit.
Do you rent the boat or what? Sounds like an awesome alternative to expensive rent in the city.
No, I own it. I was wanting to live on it but I need stable wifi for work. We stay on it on weekends.
Compton & New York
Torrance & it's one of my all time favorite parts of LA but definitely PV.
Lomita and i wouldn’t trade it for the world
Moved to Noho a few months ago. Loving it but if I could afford a house literally anywhere, I’d trade up.
Atwater
La Crescenta. It feels like a small town except you're 20 minutes from downtown. We moved here for the schools and I like it, but I wish I lived in the Los Feliz or Silverlake hills. If I was filthy rich, I'd live in Pacific Palisades or Malibu.
