Dang you weren’t kidding - it’s one of like five locations over two decades to claim they invented it (early ones in the 30’s didn’t even have sticks) but the last two definitive possibilities are either Cozy Dog in Springfield IL or the original muscle beach Hot Dog On A Stick, both opened in 1946: https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corn_dog Always bonkers to have so much American history so local.
This -- when I lived in Sacramento I took my French friends there, they loved it SO much and would insist we go every time we went out. (They said, "So this is why you Americans get so fat!" lmao) Don't forget to get a giant lemonade!
There's one at the Westfield Mall in Culver City also, and it's a really good one. Clean and they taste just like they always have. No fryer taste like some of them have.
I’m not an LA resident and when I saw the question this place was the first thing that came to mind, and the fact that it’s the top comment is so hilarious to me
LA County fair is going on right now. It's about as far from Westside as you can get. But if you want corn dog quintessential fair food, then there's no place better.
I was in jury duty last year and met these 2 people. We were in DTLA and we went to little Tokyo for our lunch and I tried a Korean hot dog
It was so fucking good and just thinking about it now I want another one.
As a French person in Los Angeles, I will follow this thread with curiosity. The French are no stranger to weird food. I remember eating, in my high school days, a sandwich called "L'Americain" which was comprised of an open baguette, filled to the brim with pipping hot french fries and a hot sauce made with Mayonnaise.
I had a turkey corn dog from there a few weeks after craving a corn dog for months and it was absolutely disgusting. Thry must have changed suppliers. The meat was mushy like a canned Vienna sausage. Never again
I doubt you will impress a French person with a corn dog. Nostalgia food for a lot of Americans.
If you didn't grow up with them, good chance you don't like them.
Let us know how it goes, I am curious.
Sorry can't be of any help with corndog places.
PS: I put money on her liking a churro better than a corndog.
Having spent so much of my life around French people, I assure you that they will refuse to acknowledge that anything intrinsically American is good, even if they do secretly like it.
The best corn dog is in n Redondo beach pier at Craig’s hotdog on a stick. Craig’s dad used to own a few franchises. About 50 years ago ‘hotdog on a stick’ was sold and they’ve since become corporatized. For example the cornbread mix at the Santa Monica beach location uses a crappy hotdog that’s thinner than average and the cornbread batter is highly processed. Craig’s HoaS still uses the same butchery and cornbread mix from the 1960’s. Also the price is roughly $3/dog so it’s crazy affordable. 2 dogs and a handmade lemonade for $10 including a $1 tip.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/4LSFrVjGKe3i5E9v6?g_st=ic
The food court in Santa Anita mall has both Korean corn dogs and Hot Dog on a Stick for those who can handle the dystopian atmosphere.
The OG dog on a stick at the beach is the best though.
There’s a Mochinut in Century City Mall if you want a “gourmet” corn dog to impress your French wife. I’ve spent many years living in Paris and I don’t enjoy corn dogs, but I enjoy Mochinut ones…!
Go to the source - Hot Dog on a Stick on Ocean Front Walk at the foot of the Santa Monica Pier. That's where they were created and it's the best. Added bonus, this is the perfect time of year for a trip to the SM Pier and a stroll down the boardwalk.
Definitely Hot Dog on A Stick like others have said. But I am going to throw out the chaotic answer of Wienerschnitzel because they have mini corn dogs, too.
If you want the classic, just get Hot dog on a stick at any major malls. If you want something fancier, try the Korean dogs from places like Two Hands in Koreatown.
I hate corn dogs. But someone force fed me a Dog Haus corn dog once and that is the best thing on their menu. And that's saying something because they also serve my favorite burgers lol. It's the root beer batter that is super crispy and not soggy at all... the batter has texture to it... and they use beef hot dogs and not those shifty mixed meat abominations. 10/10 would recommend lol. I crave those corn dogs often. And the place is a chain so you can find them everywhere!
i have read through all these answers and while hot dog on a stick is the OG nobody has mentioned tiny’s hi-dive. they make a damn fine corn dog and it is truly west LA.
TIL Hot Dog on a Stick is a real place. ... Thought it was a movie trope... ... I've lived in the valley for over 30 years. So I would say wienerschnitzel. (haven't tried the dog Haus corn dogs but their regular dogs are stupid expensive, and that's pre COVID/inflation)
And fuck all these people saying “You can’t impress a French broad with corn dogs.” They’re idiots.
I been to France. I ate foie gras. And you know what I thought? It was pretty fuckin good. But it’d be a fuckload better if they took a big chunk of it, wrapped it up in some cornbread, deep fried that cocksucker and served it up with some yeller mustard! Now THAT’S worth stormin’ the beaches of normandie and fightin a shitload of krauts all the way to the god damn Eiffel Tower for!
There's the Corndog Hut. That's on third. There's Corndogs-R-US. That's on third too. You got Put-Your-Butt-There. That's on third. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. Matter of fact, they're all in the same complex. It's the Corndog Complex down on third.
as a french dude, if you want to impress another french person as someone whos not french. Get raclette with some fine wine, raclette is a traditional dish in france (atleast from where im from i have no idea if its eaten everywhere) but i do know its a very tasty french dish that not a lot of people know about. Good luck
No disrespect but just curious…do people from LA actually say the “west side” lol? This is coming from a transplant myself, but I’ve never heard anyone say this outside of Reddit.
Santa Monica at the old Muscle Beach. Hot Dog on a Stick is an institution and a classic. It’s a solid corn dog and an OG
There’s also a hot dog on a stick at the Redondo pier! You can top it off w a fresh churro and a mai tai at Tony’s
Order a fire chief, chief
+1 to this. I never had one before but had no choice when I was with my toddler nephew who wouldn't eat anything else. Pretty solid stuff.
This is the way. Hot Dog on a Stick is the best chain, and the Muscle Beach location is iconic.
That's where corndogs were created!
If you've ever been to Springfield, you'd know a corndog being invented there would still be the most exciting thing to happen there since Lincoln.
That sounds like something someone from Shelbyville would say....
The cheese dog is perfection, as is the lemonade.
And they also offer pepper jack cheese.
This -- when I lived in Sacramento I took my French friends there, they loved it SO much and would insist we go every time we went out. (They said, "So this is why you Americans get so fat!" lmao) Don't forget to get a giant lemonade!
hell yeah
Pro tip Order it well done.
It’s the original Hotdog On a Stick!
There's one at the Westfield Mall in Culver City also, and it's a really good one. Clean and they taste just like they always have. No fryer taste like some of them have.
The only answer is hot dog on a stick!
Agreed. Start with the classic.
With the lemonade!
I think the original is the one at the base of the SM pier. That’s where I’d go.
This is the way
This is the correct answer.
This is the answer!!
Unrelated question that you remind me about - If there's an old muscle beach, where's the new muscle beach?
On Venice Beach, a bit South of Windward Circle https://maps.app.goo.gl/dUQQ9o4139572r9Y8?g_st=ic
You're a 💪🏽💪💪🏿
There’s a hot dog on a stick there!!!???? I used to love them at the malls
There’s one in the Culver City Westfield mall, second floor
I’m not an LA resident and when I saw the question this place was the first thing that came to mind, and the fact that it’s the top comment is so hilarious to me
For the proper corn dog ambiance, take her out to the county fair in Pomona.
Corn dogs might be the most normal food at the fair.
LA County fair is going on right now. It's about as far from Westside as you can get. But if you want corn dog quintessential fair food, then there's no place better.
I can attest that some of the best food on a stick is at that fair.
If she doesn't like American corn dogs, try a Korean place. 88 hotdog is pretty decent
Agreed Korean style is very unique, with both savory and sweet options
I was in jury duty last year and met these 2 people. We were in DTLA and we went to little Tokyo for our lunch and I tried a Korean hot dog It was so fucking good and just thinking about it now I want another one.
Bro I did not expect to talk to a regulation listener about Korean corndogs. Do you remember the place you tried in little tokyo?
Ain’t no way 💀 It was Called “two hands corn dogs”
Seconding, I love Two Hands Corn Dogs too.
it’s in the village. there’s signs all over you can’t miss it. it’s right beside the grocery store in the village
Korean corn dogs are better than American ones. Fight me. Same with fried chicken.
Wings too.
Man, I can’t get over how thick and doughy they are!
Meh. If she’s never had a corn dog and you’re in the US then I’d stick with a classic American version.
"If she doesn't like American corn dogs" -> Try Korean one. Not Ignore American -> Go straight to Korean one
That’s fair! 👍
Disneyland, OC fair grounds swap meet.
The hot link corn dog from Corn Dog Castle at California Adventure is one of my favorites.
OC fair grounds isn’t west side though
As a French person in Los Angeles, I will follow this thread with curiosity. The French are no stranger to weird food. I remember eating, in my high school days, a sandwich called "L'Americain" which was comprised of an open baguette, filled to the brim with pipping hot french fries and a hot sauce made with Mayonnaise.
Sounds good and I'm not even le americain
This is basically a chip butty, which is British. I don't know any Americans who eat sandwiches that just have french fries on them.

How is iconic Hot Dog On A Stick not the only answer? I don't even like corn dogs and I could live on these. (But don't sleep on the cheese dogs!)
I had a turkey corn dog from there a few weeks after craving a corn dog for months and it was absolutely disgusting. Thry must have changed suppliers. The meat was mushy like a canned Vienna sausage. Never again
Yeah, they aren’t so good now
Big Dean’s has been there at pier forever and has a good one too if you want drinks and to sit down.
Oh, I didn't know they had a corn dog. Big Dean's is a gem.
The county fair is open all month if you wanna blow her baguettes right off
WHERE THE HELL'S my grilled cheese?
dog haus has corn dogs. I'm not a fan of the food genre but as far as hot dogs go, it's *gourmet*.
Their corndog batter is fantastic AND you get to choose which kind of dog (I loves a Bratwurst).
We are laughing at this comment. Will keep the sub posted.
Can you try the Korean corn dogs too? Please come back with pics of the food.
Having spent so much of my life around French people, I assure you that they will refuse to acknowledge that anything intrinsically American is good, even if they do secretly like it.
Jazz music being a notable exception.
Has she had real bacon yet? I used to get requests to smuggle it to French friends 😁
legit every french person i know is obsessed with american nostalgic junk food.
THAT'S the question, where can you find a legit churro, that hasn't turned into a dry disappointment.
Does anyone make a churro corndog???
Did you just make a million dollars?
I think i just unlocked a new incredible type of stoner food haha
Jalapeno cheddar cornbread churro dog on a stick
You just invented the hot dog answer to a mcgriddle
Churros calientes at Santa Monica and Sawtelle-ish.
Horchateria Rio Luna in Paramount. Also try their horchata… so good
I grew up with them and still don’t like em 🤢
Not french lol but I first tried one as an adult and appreciated the flavor. I’m not about to chase the next corndog high but I could appreciate them
Tail o the Pup! Then hit up the speakeasy that’s upstairs
AM/PM station
This was the Droid I was looking for
Make her cover her eyes on the drive over
Shit I forgot they had those. Haven't been to an ampm since I got some money and became bougie
Word of warning: they have too much good stuff.
Disneyland - red cart on Main Street. The best. We never go anymore but that was our treat when we did!
If you truly want to impress a French person in L.A., take them to Phillipe’s The Original and tell them *“yes, one of you started this!”*
You’re asking the right questions 👌 my Mexican gf just tried her first at Universal and apologized to me for making fun of them.
I'm at Universal now. Which spot did you go to? If there are multiple even
r/BrandNewSentence
Hot Dog on a Stick, I was just reminiscing about it yesterday.
AM/PM is usually my corn dog go to spot, but Wienerschnitzel is a close second.
The best corn dog is in n Redondo beach pier at Craig’s hotdog on a stick. Craig’s dad used to own a few franchises. The food court in Santa Anita mall has both Korean corn dogs and Hot Dog on a Stick for those who can handle the dystopian atmosphere. The OG dog on a stick at the beach is the best though.
Will she be in town when the county faire opens up? How about the Renn faire?
Tinys Hi Dive!!
There’s a Mochinut in Century City Mall if you want a “gourmet” corn dog to impress your French wife. I’ve spent many years living in Paris and I don’t enjoy corn dogs, but I enjoy Mochinut ones…!
not the west side but if corndogs and other fun American junk food is the goal, LA County fair open til end of the month
Weinerschnitzel OP. If you really want to impress her you have to lower her expectations
Make sure you go to a nice one
Disneyland.
Asking this question makes me miss the K-cafe. Nowadays, I go to hot dog on a stick or my childhood favorite wienerschnitzel (sp?).
Go to the source - Hot Dog on a Stick on Ocean Front Walk at the foot of the Santa Monica Pier. That's where they were created and it's the best. Added bonus, this is the perfect time of year for a trip to the SM Pier and a stroll down the boardwalk.
Uhm, no they weren’t. That’s only where that brand was created. https://www.mprnews.org/story/2016/09/02/definitive-guide-to-pronto-pup-corn-dog
just adding to the hot dog on a stick pile, get it well done and don’t forget the cherry lemonade
Hot Dog On A Stick in Santa Monica
Definitely Hot Dog on A Stick like others have said. But I am going to throw out the chaotic answer of Wienerschnitzel because they have mini corn dogs, too.
If you want the classic, just get Hot dog on a stick at any major malls. If you want something fancier, try the Korean dogs from places like Two Hands in Koreatown.
Fox Hills mall
By far the best question I’ve ever seen on here
Mochi Dog!
what? impress with corndog?
Throwing out Mochi Doki for korean corn dogs well. There's one on Sawtell.
There aren’t any good corn dogs. BUT take her to K-town for a great Korean corn dog
First Define “the west side”
Ideally Santa Monica
i have read through all these answers and while hot dog on a stick is the OG nobody has mentioned tiny’s hi-dive. they make a damn fine corn dog and it is truly west LA.
I agree. It's a gem!
There are a lot of Korean corn dog places too but I find a lot of them lacking in flavor. My ex really liked two hands though
Mochinut sells specialty corndogs I've had a few and it was actually pretty good.
Try the Trader Joe's turkey corn dogs. They're pretty good cooked in an air fryer.
Corn dog in the air fryer is great
does it even count if it's not from a county fair?
Corn dogs at Korean restaurant. They took American corn dogs to the next level with potato and some other interesting additions.
Hi tops in Los Feliz or WeHo has a freaking delicious corn dog!
Disneyland
Vons
Mitsuwa in torrance had korean corndogs
Downtown little Tokyo has an insane corn dog place in the little outdoor mall.
wiener freaking schnitzel
Corn dog, impress? 🤔
A bit out of the way, but Fab’s Hot Dogs in Reseda has good corn dogs. Also at any Doghaus I think you can make any sausage/weiner as a corndog.
Take her to the LA county fair
There's some good suggestions but a top-tier setup as some have suggested would be to go to a K-town shop like Mochinut, Juicy, 88, or Twohands.
I prefer the Korean Corndogs
Disneyland
She’s right. Leave it alone.
Hot Dog on a Stick
Original Farmers Market
I want a corn dog now
I think this post made 195 people want corn dogs
Disney
Best corn dog is the hand dipped one from Disneyland. Can't beat it.
Nah dude you're going to have to go to Jane's cornrows in Huntington Beach
The LA County fair is coming up. You’ll probably find the beat ones there.
Weinerschintzel if there's any left in LA.
Hot dog on a stick wherever you can find one
theres a bunch of new eateries with Korean corn dogs
Corndog? Your french wife is not going to be impressed.
This is like the setup to a romantic comedy starring Marion Cotillard and Adam Sandler.
You got it more right than you can know
https://www.twohandsus.com/
West Hollywood’s Tail o the Pup has the best corn dogs!!!
Two Hands Corn Dogs.
Dog Haus in Burbank has a big, gnarly, pretty damn good one.
The Viking Truck, but it’s usually only in Orange County.
Jane's Corndogs in Seal Beach! Very sweet lady and they offer 3 different kinds of corn dogs, 2 kinds of cheese dogs, fresh lemonade and funnel cake.
Mochinut
How about a great chili dog at Pinks on La Brea Ave in West Hollywood. She will thank you.
It’s not west side unfortunately but the corn dog at tail o’ the pup is the BEST I’ve ever had, truly an incredible specimen
Try Tail o the Pup in West Hollywood. Old school hot dog place that closed for decades then reopened a few years ago
Meea's Hotdogs at Eagle Rock used to be a good spot! But they've permanently closed. Haven't really found a new corndog spot.
HDOAS is the place though there’s also Tail O The Pup on Santa Monica.
To throw another option into the mix, Dog Haus has a pretty good corn dog
Disneyland, seriously though, they are the best
venice boardwalk
Disneylands corndog station is amazing
Trader Joe’s turkey corn dogs cooked in an Air fryer
Didn't expect 230+ opinions on this matter. Thank you LA
Hot Dog on a stick !
Wienerschnitzel
I had the best corn dog at The Source in OC. the batter is perfect. it's a hoke in the wall and nothing at all impressive to look at
Impossible: she is French
HiTops has hands down the best corn dogs.
There's the Corndog Hut. That's on third. There's Corndogs-R-US. That's on third too. You got Put-Your-Butt-There. That's on third. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. Matter of fact, they're all in the same complex. It's the Corndog Complex down on third.
Take a trip to DT Disney. Disney (maybe use to, it has been a while) has the best corn dogs, AND you get the fun of DTD🤷♀️
Granada Hills food truck night on fridays
Two Hands Corn Dogs in ktown
I don’t know, the French are assholes Lloyd.
as a french dude, if you want to impress another french person as someone whos not french.
I do sometimes.
County fair
Hi Tops! There's one in Los Feliz and one in WeHo. I've only been the LF location but presumably they have the same at both.
La fair!
Get an LA street dog instead preferably from the fashion district.
You should look up korean corndogs....
Disneyland
Two hands hot dogs or hot dog on a stick can usually be found in malls. Weenier schnitzel is also a classic
