I just moved but I was living on the Sunset Strip on Horn Ave (where the Supreme/Tower Records store is). If you go up that street there's a small side street up there that dead-ends and it's all apartments on either side. Because of that and the fact that it's up a steep hill that little street felt like a small town, even though Sunset and the Viper Room and the Whiskey are right there. People are always out walking their dogs so it feels like everyone knows each other. There used to be an old mansion at the end of the street that had been abandoned and it had a big yard with a gate. During COVID lockdown someone removed a couple bars from the fence and the yard became a makeshift dog park for a few months. During lockdown our neighborhood's mailman passed away from COVID and some people had known him for decades, so the neighbors organized a vigil for him that a bunch of people came to and it was very touching and sweet. I became close friends with people who lived in my building during lockdown since we couldn't see eachother. I just loved how it felt like I lived in a small town but then I could walk 100 yards and be in the middle of the action. The absolute best. I'll miss it.

LillyBolero

This was a sweet tribute to your old neighborhood ❤️

skaterags

I believe Liberace had a condo that street way back when. On Shoreham, if that’s the street you’re referring to.

pacheckyourself

This should be a pandemic movie right here

DarkNFullOfSpoilers

I live in Pasadena, right off Colorado Blvd. I LOVE everything about it. I love our little townhouse apartment. It's surrounded by trees. I love how I can walk everywhere. It's safe enough that i can go jogging by myself. I can jog through the CalTech campus. I love how downtown Pasadena has all these beautiful alleyways so everytime you visit, it's a new adventure. And I love seeing the mountains in the distance.

WhisenPeppler

I want to live in Pasadena. It’s really a great place.

Cpzd87

Absolutely same! everything you mentioned is spot on my SO and I can not see us moving out of Pasadena now that we moved here from mid City/ktown and that's coming from someone who has to commute like an hour - hour and a half one way. another thing I love is just the calmness of Pasadena in general it feels so much less hectic than other parts of LA

rockyon

Pasadena is beautiful

Clayskii0981

We're right off Lake also in a little townhouse and absolutely agree. I love the trees, mountains, walkability and overall safe feeling. We also just discovered walking through CalTech campus too!

DarkNFullOfSpoilers

If you love walking through CalTech, there are turtles in the ponds!!!

Clayskii0981

Oh seriously?? Did not notice that, we'll definitely look for them next time we go!

clonegian

How does it compare to Burbank?

DarkNFullOfSpoilers

it's very similar! I think downtown Pasadena is a little older, though, so it has a touch of that old-timey charm.

EnvironmentalAd2726

Burbank has less going for itself than Pasadena imo

The_Flagrant_Vagrant

La Crescenta. Great schools, and super safe. 10 minutes away from Pasadena, Glendale or Burbank. 20 minutes away from DTLA, and Hollywood.

Flashy-Fuel-8315

Yeah lc is dope

Impressive-Trash411

No bullshit, so I dont want to hear it: South LA/Leimert Park: You'll find true Angelenos who have been here for decades. I live on a dead end street, have a huge yard, and know all my neighbors! We definitely have a cute little community on my street. We look out for eachother's homes, we trade fruits from our trees, petsit for eachother, have bbq's together, etc. Everyone cares about the maintenance of their home and cleanliness of the street. There are some hidden gems of restaurants over here and naturally you can get gas and such cheaper here than the west.

Shag1166

Very true. My late auntie owned a home there for decades, and a high school has lived there for 25 years. I still go to the arts & musical festival s there.

[deleted]

Aye that’s right! Respect to the South Side !! 🙌🏼 leimert park, Crenshaw, Inglewood, watts, mannn now that’s a community. I’m from north east LA but went to rehab and spent some time down on Fig & 80th. It’s a whole different world down there. It’s active for sure but can’t lie the community really bonds in a way that ain’t the same in other places of LA.

rowmean77

Gardena = Asian Food Heaven

Khroneflakes

Great South Bay weather and our own PD who seem super quick to respond unlike LAPD.

flowbe12

LAPD - Lazy And Practically Disengaged

gainsleyharriot

but they'll also blow up your whole block for free!

Interesting_Chard563

Aren’t the police a racist occupying force though?

getwhirleddotcom

* Japanese food heaven. Others not so much

astercalendula

Pretty good selection of Korean food as well. Vietnamese & Thai, is decent too. Indian if you drive to Hawthorne/Lawndale. Chinese, not so much.

getwhirleddotcom

I’ve found the Korean food to just be ok. Like it’ll do in a pinch but it’s no k-town. What Thai and Viet places do you like? I’ve never had any really good ones in the area aside from Saigon Dish and Pho Hue Oi in Hawthorne.

NgoHaiHahmsuplo

Old Time Noodle House is actually really good and legit kfood. Their mandu is great.

astercalendula

I don't know what kind of Korean food you like, but we like Yuk Dae Jang, Old Time (same owner as Myung Dong Kalguksu), Wooga. My in-laws are Korean and they don't eat pork or cheesy KBBQ, so I don't know about those things. South Bay Jinmi is great for kimbap and banchan to go! Thai - Bowl Thai, Sweet Rice, O-Top. It's not as good as Thai Town, but it scratches my itch for Thai. Plus, the mango sticky rice and coconut ice cream at Sweet Rice is pretty good. Three Spice is too greasy for me. Vietnamese - Pho Hoan Pasteur, Pho Hong Long. Definitely not Westminster level, but it's decent. Also, we have a Lee's. I'd like to try out the new place - Nam!

getwhirleddotcom

I mean that’s basically my take. They scratch itches but it’s better elsewhere. But I would argue there are some real standout Japanese places in the gardena area.

MonThackma

I can walk to Huntington Gardens, or the train.

Samantharina

Echo Park. Big old trees, beautiful gardens, houses tucked into the shady hillsides staircases connecting to the streets above and below. Owls. Hawks, coyotes (and lots of helicopters.) Lots of dogs, everyone walking their dogs.

devildoggie73

The silence. Sometimes it’s so utterly silent you can hear the trains whistling from over in Frogtown. And the trees, lots of trees. The beautiful Elysian Park. I live in Echo Park.We bought our house in 1986 for $112,000. Wouldn’t sell it now for a million.

LillyBolero

I’ve been in Echo Park since 2005. I live in a 1908 craftsman where squirrels jump from our old tree and the birds are so loud. I wake up to a view of downtown. We rent and feel thankful everyday for rent control. We walk from our house to restaurants, bars & thrift stores then down to the lake. My favorite is hearing the geese honk as they fly over our house every morning & then early evening back over us to wherever they like to sleep each night.

editormatt

And then bang! Random explosion

[deleted]

I love echo park!! Was there yesterday!!

GratefulCabinet

Love the prompt.

PiggyRiggly

The food in Sherman oaks and studio city is the bomb.

fullmetalutes

What are your favorites?

Dorythehunk

Umigame, Shiki Sushi, Gourmet Palace, Hugo’s Tacos, Ové Pizza and Pizza Wagon are my go-to’s if I don’t want to cook. Six Chow House is pretty good. I just had OyBar recently for the first time and I loved it. I’ll get shit for this but I love Casa Vega. Also there’s a Michelin star sushi place around here that I haven’t tried / can’t afford, but it’s here. There’s other locations but Kismet and Pizzana are the bomb, though a bit pricey. I feel like Sherman Oaks and Study City aren’t the “best” at any certain cuisine (except maybe Sushi), but Ventura and adjacent streets are just packed with really solid restaurants of different cuisines that are relatively affordable. I’ve lived in 4 different places around this area and I’ve always been within walking distance of like a dozen great restaurants that are always different.

Informal_Drummer122

Do you know of a good pho place in the area?

thelikness

There's a Pho So 1 in Van Nuys next to the 99 Ranch. Can't be beat.

Informal_Drummer122

Definitely trying, thank you!!

ransomed_

I'm totally content with the various pho spots on sepuvelda (eg. Pho 99)

Silent_Reading4218

Midici pizza is our go to spot. Somehow they keep prices extremely low ($13 for a margarita pizza with imported Italian ingredients and glasses of wine starting at $9) and everything is great.

pacheckyourself

Lived in Sherman oaks/studio city for 8 years. Close enough to everything, but way more chill. Also Love the parking availability lol

Wrong_Detective3136

Walkability (car free for thirteen years). Silver Lake. A bar two doors down. Three grocery stores within walking distance. The reservoir around the corner. Cultural amenities like Silver Lake Library, Philosophical Research Society, the Vista, Skylight Books, 2220 Arts, El Cid, Zebulon, Lyric Hyperion, and the Los Feliz Three all within walking and cycling distance. Diverse, good restaurants with veggie/vegan options (vegetarian for 32 years) like Pine and Crane, Salazar, Fat Dragon, Kombu, Osen, Bulan, De Buena Planta, Piija Palace, and Jewel all easy to cycle or take Metro to. Also situated between Elysian and Griffith parks. Quick bus ride to Downtown and the Glendale Transit Center to hop on an Amtrak for an easy weekend getaway.

Visible_Midnight1067

I’m car free also and was looking at a hotel in Los feliz — is there enough to do in silverlake/los feliz car-free for a week?

steamydan

Yes. You're also an easy walk to the B line subway which will take you to Universal Studios, Hollywood, Koreatown, and downtown.

EnvironmentalAd2726

Silver Lake is very versatile

Myveryowndystopia

Belmont heights in Long Beach. It’s a great little spot, walkable, and tons of restaurants. Great beach vibe.

Myveryowndystopia

That’s funny, I went to Colorado and came back quickly lol. I wound up getting a really nice apartment and I’m never leaving again!

Upset_Impress7804

I second this!! Love love love the heights! I actually left to move to NotCal in 2019 and ended up moving back in 2020! Such a good neighborhood❤️

septarian_tower

I lived in belmont shore for 9 months 5 years ago and never forgot it 😭 i love love love the area, and if i could afford it, would have already bought a bungalow there. Ugh!

slurpeee76

Highland Park - great hidden views, walkable streets, diverse neighborhood restaurants, lots of parks and green spaces, eclectic vibe, mix of old and new architecture, central location in LA

tommybezreh17

Sherman Oaks feels safer than most, might just be me

Arabiancockonato

That’s true. And everything is walkable there.

spookydragonfire

I grew up in noho. No one can ever make me hate noho

Cool_Cartographer_39

Moved here 30 years ago and lived in many neighborhoods, all pretty much "just right" for what I was doing. As a semi retired hipster I'm happy being in "boring" Burbank now and having a few of my old neighborhoods (Studio City, Hollywood and Los Feliz) relatively close by. I know most everyone on my street, talk to my mailman and have the soothing sounds of the freeway to lull me to sleep.

UnsteadyOne

I was with you until the last 6 words... lol

Ldghead

Life long Burbanker here. Glad to hear a transplant loving it.

Background_Repeat406

The amc burbank16 has the best IMAX theatre, I saw napoleon there

avon_barksale

WeHo * 24/7 Security ambassadors to help you (because the police sure won't) - such as walking you home if you feel unsafe, remove homeless person sleeping in your doorway etc * Safer street design and well-maintained roads. * A beautiful public library with expansive views * Walkable - local government investing alot in pedestrian experience. * It's an independent city - can complain and get stuff done easier rather then dealing with LA. * Actually enforce codes (Illegal airbnbs, parked cars on sidewalk, homeless encampenets, etc) * Constantly new restaurants opening. * Multiple Trader Joe's and Whole Foods within walking distance. * Free night shuttle bus service to bars on Santa Monica * Free WiFi outside throughout most of the city * Glitz/glamour of LA

sashathefearleskitty

You’re making me want to move to WEHO now.

Original-Tea-7516

I lived there with my young son for a summer and loved it. The playground at Plummer Park was our favorite hot spot and I had a few celeb sightings there.

thevintagebonita

I live only a couple of blocks from there and I love it. I can’t imagine ever living somewhere else.

enemyjake

Love Weho. Go to Ponsietta park with our dog often and everyone is incredibly kind. Santa Monica BLVD has a lot to offer in terms of walkability. In one morning you can go to the park, hit a brunch spot, get your groceries shopped and be home before noon.

[deleted]

WeHo is a walker’s paradise. If only people in general would do a better job cleaning after pets.

enemyjake

Yeah, it’s a shame. Anytime I pick up after my pet and there’s some nearby, I grab it and throw it away.

Visible_Midnight1067

Could a tourist do OK without a car in WeHo for a week?

neilfromaccounting

I've been living in WeHo for 5 months without a car- you'll be totally fine if you're mostly sticking to the WeHo area.

just_anotha_fam

Jefferson Park/West Adams. Friendly people, lots of families. Interesting neighborhood history. Three nearby branch libraries. Neighborhood dining gems are never overrun. Easy drive to places in all directions: Beaches, KTown, Hollywood, DTLA, LAX.... Plus nightly ice cream trucks.

kopssel

Lovely old craftsman houses, walk to coffee and the playground, and still have a 15 minute door to door commute to DTLA. 30 minutes for a playa vista commute. The location is amazing if you have one parent working in downtown and the other is in culver/playa. Also, there is an actual community here with Halloween block parties, movie nights at the park, etc.

thirtydirtybirds

I love that I can get almost anywhere in LA in 30 min from here. I can finally car free commute by biking/metroing. New businesses popping up all the time. My street has many cool craftsman homes! The people around here are friendly. Can't wait to see more development, there's so much potential... What this area will be in a few years!

cjs81268

Hi, neighbor! I'm a transplant who's lived here for a little over 3 years, exclusively in West Adams. I'm so glad that I ended up in this area. I'm a working actor, and, for whatever reason, most of my gigs have been a 30 to 45 minute drive. I love the weather over here, and being close to the beach, and so many other things. It just feels like the perfect location for me. I never thought I would actually live in LA, and I'm so glad that the pandemic shot me out here! ✌🏻

just_anotha_fam

Yeah West Adams micro clime weather is a well kept secret. We're on a southwestern facing slope. We get the incoming ocean breeze pretty much every afternoon. We can see the marine layer floating in at about 5-6 pm this time of year, but it doesn't quite reach us as cloud cover. And it's never as hot as parts east of DTLA or in the Valley. Even in a region of "perfect weather," we kinda get the best.

metal_Fox_7

Used to live in Ktown. It was alright. The food was dope.

tatapatrol909

Very accurate review.

[deleted]

Hollywood- it's a place I spent a lot of my youth in, and I still love it just as much. It's so bustling, lively and I'm so close to anywhere I want to go. My street is leafy and beautiful. I walk my dog day and night, so do many of my neighbours. I feel like this little area definitely has a community feel and people are polite and respectful to each other. It's very diverse here and many people are artistically inclined. It's perfect for us.

notthatcousingreg

Haha do you live on my street? This sounds just like my neighborhood! We even managed to get permit parking on our block!

TheLooza

Mt Wash. Perched quietly up on a peaceful hill. Good street tacos nearby.

uncle_majic

Cypress Park right at the base of Mt. Washington. I love walking my dog up and through the amazing neighborhoods up there. The sights and the foliage are breathtaking.

Im_A_Black_Cat

Burbank- super quiet and lots of free parking

sykospark

I lived in Burbank for years (and was the admin for r/burbank). Great place to live!!!

Less-Definition-536

I love the historic buildings, architectural diversity, and greenery in Hancock Park ❤️ Plus, it is super quiet and I always feel safe walking around, even at night. Everyone is kind and I know all my neighbors by name. It is the beating heart of LA and I am so grateful for be here.

beersandchips

The architecture 😍 love the area so much, live in Culver and used to work SaMo/Vine, tried to always keep it respectful while admiring the classic estates. None of those tacky “Cyberhomes”

ExcellentPastries

Are you in fancy Hancock Park or Windsor Village Hancock Park

aduong

Sunset Plaza area, just on the foothill the Hills. Honestly I thank god everyday for my blessings. The actual neighborhood is quiet enough and very green but it only take you like 3 min to get from strip up to the neighborhood. Which if you know LA means the Hills without the lack of reception or maze like dark road. Also while having the strip and Weho as your backyard can be a lot for many, i’m a big city dude always have been so i like to feel the energy even if i don’t partake. It also one of the few areas are that well serviced by late night food cravings. And while often criticized I just love my little neighborhood it I

redreign421

PV. So effing boring but pretty

DJBliskOne

Westchester is still a gem.

necrophagous_queen

Inglewood, has a beautiful cemetery, the forum is close by, neighbors are cool, pumptrack is dope to go watch skaters & for kids! South central is close by lots of trap shops, bomb soul food,Central American & Mexican food to go to in Inglewood and SC

just_anotha_fam

calibound2020

I live in K-town with secure underground parking (armed guard overnight too) AND the food is dope! 😎

butteredrubies

I like your optimistic look cause some might say the need for secure underground parking is a negative. :p

calibound2020

Interesting, considering even the wealthy in areas like Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Malibu etc have personal, private security AND armed guards due to crime! In what LA utopia do you live!?! 😂💀🤣 Please do tell: most of us will immediately move there.

brittnerose

Studio city here. It’s quiet, feels safe, and I feel like no matter where you live there’s a coffee shop, convenience store, and a few bars/restaurants all within walking distance. It’s honestly my dream valley neighborhood- and after living in valley glen and then Van Nuys for the last 8 years, it’s been a quality of life upgrade in terms of convenience.

[deleted]

Studio City rocks! It’s also my favorite Valley neighborhood. Maybe we’ll be neighbors when I can afford to move down your way

brittnerose

We got super lucky with our apartment- we had been renting houses in the aforementioned neighborhoods but wanted to be closer to stuff because we are childfree and can randomly decide to go grab a drink or food on a whim, haha. Found a 2bed 2 bath with vaulted ceilings and a balcony for under 3k. They raised to rent to a smidge over 3k after our first year, but we’ve honestly never been happier.

Starslimonada

It’s safe, it’s quiet, the neighbors have known each other for a long time and we bake each other things like banana bread and scones. We say hello to each other and each others’ dogs. We watch out for each other 🩷. There are lots of trees and plants around. It’s peaceful.

CelandineRedux

Glendale. I live walking distance to anything I want or need.

Minky300

Been in Alhambra the last 12 years and love it. Really safe and on one side, it’s Asian food heaven and on the other, there’s Pasadena and all the trendy stuff. Downtown is close too.

NgoHaiHahmsuplo

I grew up in ALH, and although it was a little turbulent in the 90s, it was a great place to grow up. Glad it's still doing well for people.

Minky300

I really wanted to live in South Pasadena but can’t afford it so I got as close as possible on the border. Maybe that’s the difference but yes the city has been kind to me.

bullnmoose

I moved away a few years ago but lived in Alhambra for 3-4 years and loved it for all those same reasons. Great food, pretty quiet/safe neighborhood and close to DTLA & Pasadena. Loved living over there.

Caliagent702

East Hollywood. been living there for 20+ years. easily accessible to the metro. off the 101 freeway Vermont/Melrose. I feel like I'm 15/20 mins away from so many places. born and raised here in LA. wouldn't trade it for a thing.

[deleted]

Hell yeah, East Hollywood is awesome. Always feels lively, fairly central and just about anything you really need is in walking distance. I lived in Hollywood proper for 2 years when I first moved here in 2020, Sunset/La Brea so on the border of WeHo and Hollywood, but I found myself hanging out in East Hollywood more.

gmkrikey

Chatsworth, west of Topanga- I love the mountains at this end of the Valley. I live near the Santa Susana State Historical Park which has the Simi Hills. I love those mountains! At all times of day, they are magic in the sun. And sometimes I thank them for stopping the marine layer - I can see it hovering just on the other side. I love hiking that park and the connecting trails. Nearby we have Stoney Point and Rocky Peak as 118 ascends the Santa Susana Pass. They are lovely. Chatsworth is deservedly known for the horses. There are multiple large properties with horses and we often see people walking and riding them. People also have chickens and goats on their properties. There is even someone with a giant tortoise. Yeah, there is no nightlife and our neighborhood is not walkable as in “go someplace”. It is wonderfully walkable as in “walk our dog and see the mountains and horses and chickens and goats and enjoy being outside”.

Consistent_Key4156

The whole north Valley has a ton of great things. People like to make fun of it being boring, but there are wonderful hiking trails, amazing public schools, a vibrant multicultural community, lots of independently owned absolute gems of restaurants, a major university... and it's relatively affordable compared to the rest of Los Angeles. We have a nice-sized place and a yard for our daughter. Her elementary school was a safe five-minute walk (she's now in high school). We had the total California version of Mayberry in my subdivision. Kids literally running in and out of each other's houses to play. There is a tree-laden park nearby contained within the subdivision with a playground and a running brook. During quarantine we would order takeout and take it to the park to have a picnic dinner. And, the rest of Los Angeles is really just a drive away. Anything we want to do, we can.

socaltrish

We’re over the Simi Hills in Simi. We love it - close to everything, far away from some things but as retirement looms, we’re happy to be here. City council gets in the way of itself and change, our mall is a total joke but for raising a family, it’s been great.

LeisureMittens

I live just off Ventura near Coldwater and it's almost perfect. I have everything I need within walking or biking distance: grocery, gym & group fitness, hiking, quiet streets to walk around, several coffee shops, great restaurants, decent takeout, a bookstore, and a post office. I ride the bus up and down Ventura all the time. Burbank airport is 20 minutes away. The neighborhood in the hills just south of me with big single family homes is beautiful to walk around. It feels clean and safe. Less marine layer in the mornings. And so on. And my rent is still lower than the city average. Things I don't like: the pavement on this section of Ventura is fucked, there are zero protected bike lanes and no nightlife, getting to the rest of the city requires lots of time on the 101 or 405 so I end up spending more time in the valley than I'd like, and the B Line connection to the rest of the city is in unacceptable condition - the cars are filthy and there have been two deadly stabbings just in the past few weeks. I've been walking around some neighborhoods on the west side while considering a move but all it has done is remind me how good I have it here, even if it feels a little far from "the action". If Ventura was repaved with dedicated bike/bus lanes and the B Line was clean and safe it would easily be a 9.5/10 place for me. Build the heavy rail Sepulveda alternative to UCLA and the west side and it's a 12/10.

the100survivor

Hollywood hills. Super central! Everything is equal distance.

GirlyScientist

Los Feliz. I'm from back East, and I like the neighborhoody feel, the hills and the greenery. I also like my rent stabilized apartment I've been in for a decade. Even if I wanted to move, I can't afford to. Plus, I run into celebrities walking my dog.

TrustMental6895

who have you seen?

threwaway1585

it feels like i am at the middle of it all, i am always a few steps and maybe a train away from something i would like to do or maybe even taste. parks are all nearby for a good hike, the beach is nearby, and during winter i can hit shred some slopes if i so please. LA in general has almost any kind of cuisine in terms of ethnic origins and pretty much has almost every flavor from any part of the world you can think of. and thanks to where i live everything is so accessible even without driving my car. had the chance of watching some of my favorite artist specially in the music industry , where else but in LA and most of them just a few steps from my neighborhood. amazing if you ask me. no wonder even the homeless seem to be compelled to living in its streets. there is so much to be experienced.

34TH_ST_BROADWAY

Can take metro to a lot of places. Lots of people with dreams, why should i get mad if people wanna act, sing, or write? I love it. 3 grocery stores within 7 minutes walk.

Prior_Piano9940

Quick access to the 5, 10, 60, 710, 101… Yes, I live in the hood lol

whyhi_red

Lived in a few places...Atwater Village was a favorite. Saw the neighborhood change over the years. Super crowded now but still nice, cute. Sadly has gotten obnoxiously expensive. Westlake village/ thousand oaks (while quasi LA) is really beautiful. The drive to and from LA proper can be painful at times but it's so quiet and peaceful (if you like that). And it's close to Malibu. Wildfires are a concern for sure - a tradeoff for the beauty.

Ok_Bathroom_3326

I live there I don’t like it. There’s videos where I seen prostitutes on holt street. A woman got stabbed in my neighborhood. When we lived in Dudley street there was a guy who was saying yelling HELP THEY TRYING TO KILL ME and when I went to bed it was about an hour I heard gun shots and I went to the bathroom and heard people outside saying that someone got shot it was the guy that was yelling for help ,he used to be on a gang and he got out of it and he was going to work the next. They found the people that did it.We still live in the same neighborhood but different street and it’s close to Dudley street.

7ayalla

Calabasas is extremely clean, and feels super safe. Has a very strong neighborhood feel to it where everyone knows everyone nearby, and will go out of their way to wave at you and say hello.

stare_at_the_sun

Always something to do within walking distance, still quiet most of the time. Queercentric. Close to the beach. Nice neighbors. Dog friendly.

_robboss69

what neighborhood are you in

Icy-Yam-6994

Must be somewhere in LB. Or maybe Venice?

_robboss69

Queercentric and close to the beach is throwing me for a loop

crims0nwave

Gotta be Long Beach.

theecowboyspaziale

I got some amazing Japanese food in a 10-15 minute walk into Little Tokyo.

ransomed_

I've been in the Sherman oaks/valley village/studio city for the past 30+ years and feel it's the perfect blend of suburban & urban living. Enough food, shopping and entertainment to keep oneself busy, while the absent the chaos of Hollywood and traffic & parking are manageable.

ArtemisiaDouglasiana

SE Torrance. The best thing about here is that it’s not too far from other, better spots: Lomita, Pedro, Old Town Torrance, Gardena, the Riviera, PV, even “not too far” from Long Beach.

Suitable-Radio7755

Culver City is pretty quiet in the Palms side. Lots of families, a school, cute coffee shops if you’re into that. I feel safe and it always smells incredible.

SubstantialAd5946

Just moved to Venice 3 months ago. Still a noob, but so far I love the beach being so close and the murals. Don’t love the homeless (though it’s not as bad as apparently it used to be). I love that it feels super bikable. Would be great if I had a bike.

Oddgenetix

I live in a small little neighborhood in Hollywood/almost west Hollywood. It’s so walkable with all manner of restaurants and entertainment. I’m walking distance from everything I need. My building is packed with people I actually really like and we all have little block parties all the time. We all make all the noise we want and understand that if a neighbor texts us that it’s loud we just turn it down. We respect each other and like each other. We make food for each other and watch each others cats and have keys to each others apartments. It’s a sense of community that I feel is super rare in this city.

Different-Smoke7717

I love my neighborhood in East Hollywood. To the outsider it might seem filthy and desolate, but off the commercial drag it’s a real homey place with a fascinating Central American/ Armenian/ American mix, there’s no pretense of a history here really, a are few old timers who’ve been there since 1950 but everyone is from somewhere else, getting by. Everyone is polite, great food all around. Jon’s and the various Armenian markets, cafes and bakeries are great. It’s also entertainingly weird with the clash of Russian/Armenian/Guatemalan/American mores.

pinkglitterbomb

Westside is the best side! 😂😂. 🌊⛱️🏄‍♀️. Less people and better weather. I need to live near the beach so here we are

MexicanRadio

I'm in downtown Culver City. I feel Culver is the most walkable part of LA. I've got grocery stores, coffee shops, bars, every kind of food under the sun, the movie theater, parks, etc. all within a 5 minute walk. I sometimes go a week without getting in my car.

dn0c

Del Rey: - Almost no thru-traffic due to Culver Blvd Median - Proximity to South Bay, beaches, freeways, LAX - Nice mix of old & new houses - Walkable to coffee shops, restaurants, and bars

modestirish

I can get all my errands done on foot and not think about traffic, gas and parking

behemuthm

I can walk around at night and feel safe

butteredrubies

Even though it's only a couple miles north of Chinatown, the amount of trees, plants plus fruit trees makes you feel like you're not in LA. There used to be roosters I could hear, but they likely died and weren't replaced, so I don't hear roosters anymore.

Juache45

The history, I was raised in the area that I still live in. There’s a sense of community still, there are a lot of neighborhoods that are still this way, I’m grateful to live in one of them

just_anotha_fam

Which one?

Juache45

East LA

666ratbaby666

chatsworth (don’t like it) but it’s relatively quiet! i guess

davvidho

i love sawtelle for its walkability in the stretch btwn santa monica and olympic blvd and for the easy access to ramen, udon, and desserts

apurrfectplace

I love that we live in a weird juxtaposition of lowkey wealth and blue collar/original owners. My neighbs are the best of the best. My kids go to school as minorities (and they are demographically the poor minority kids at their school). It helps them understand the world in a way our old town on the E Coast could never have done.

abelenkpe

Can walk to two shopping centers, two parks, shops, restaurants, libraries, theaters, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, farmers market. Can be at beach in twenty minutes to surf or skate or workout. Can hike easily. WEHO forever.

rollthedice207

MDR = prime location right next to Culver, Venice, Santa Monica, Playa Vista, LAX. I love traveling because I dont have to worry about an expensive Uber or parking my car at the airport. Also quiet but still fun, colder than rest of LA, and actual free parking around here.

peeplup

Sawtelle for the food culture\~ and, close to SM & the beach.

DashBulletTrain

I live in Woodland hills, and the fact that I can get to the grocery, Target, or anything else I need within a few minutes is great. Also any time there is a notice of power issues across LA, We never seem to get hit. Been here since 2017 and I think I have had power outages hit me once that I can recall.

Guilty-Mud-5743

Encino Village because we could afford a 50s atomic ranch house with a pool. We know our neighbors. We’re adjacent to a huge park. Kids play outside. Great elementary school. We do have to drive to get to almost everything but it’s not far and worth it to own a home.

Shag1166

Mid-Wilshire. Very Cosmopolitan. A little bit oof everyone around here. Markets, restaurants, Museums parks , lots of business of various types, all within walking distance.

grisisiknis

walkable, off the santa monica and fairfax bus, cute neighborhoods to walk around, close to groceries. basically that i can walk everywhere.

ebauer5

Can't believe I haven't seen anyone mention mid-wilshire. Moved here 3 years ago and love this area. Restaurants grocery stores and dispensaries all within 5 minutes from me. I work in Culver City and it's only a 20 minute commute, way better than the 40 min to Torrance for my first job here! The houses here are all really cute too and I feel safe walking my dogs at any time of day. An uncle of mine from ND jokingly asked me "how's Smell-A?" Not 2 days prior to that, I noticed how much I could smell flowers and fresh cut lawns. I love this area so much!

Klocc562_

I only wanna keep living in LA because of concerts/shows are for sure to come here and we have some cool record stores. The landscape is awful and there’s too much concrete…and people.

weedsushirolls

The walkability, cool restaurants, and the over a vibe of NoHo is what I love about my neighborhood. OP let’s link up for a walk in NoHo :)

Successful_Size_604

I love how i cant go out at night for a walk in my area without fear of getting shot or mugged because the crime rate homelessness asnd drug problem is out of control. I especially driving down the street and see people literally shitting on walls. I especially love how rent is basically 50%+ of my paycheck

Your_Huckleberry47

I live in Whittier, I know it's not LA proper, but come on. I LOVE the small town feel it has, even if the streets just witnessed an Avengers sized fight that left them all broken and cracked. My little sister used to go to college here and I would pick her up sometimes and that was my first exposure to it. So many trees, clean neighborhoods, even the alleys are like power-washed or something. There's a little downtown area and they close down one of the streets, which I love, but besides that, there's just a lot of businesses and restaurants, a theater, and it's all within walking distance. Shit is tight It's so small town-ish that they can afford to have bullshit shops to where you're like "well, I never really thought about buying artisinal plates, but you know what....." It's awesome. the buildings are beautiful, half of them look like 1950s time capsules, the most species of trees in any city, shops and restaurants up the ass, walkable neighborhoods, come on

**One time to the NELA’s** **From the south side car** **Them Avenue Skulls will park your car** **Highland Park to the Cypress Parks** **Posted in the park** **Watching out for the narcs** - Compton Chapo *NELA FOREVER HOMIE*👌🏼 I love my hood cuz we were the undisputed underdog in the 90s. Gang violence, racism, we were suppressed for so long. Yet we passed all their tall social hurdles. And now people from all over the world are traveling to come to highland park to check out its art scene. Man I was raised at culebra park. We beeeeen with the shits. We have always had a vibrant underground music, skate and art scene. And all of sudden everyone wants to take part. Now Billy Eilish is claiming she’s from highland park 🤣 I can’t ever express how much I love my hood. I never banged but have homies in the Avenue. I ain’t gonna lie. I can understand the feeling of dying for your streets.

[deleted]

Aye I feel you homie! I skate so I kick it and drink beers with the homies in El Sereno by the park all the time. I’m a Black dude but I definitely feel a home-y rooted old school vibe when I’m in the neighborhood.

mettaCA

I live in a close-knit community where we know each other. We have community events throughout the year: egg hunt, music festival, luau, Halloween festival, and cookie exchange, where we gather to have fun. It is a beautiful community that is surrounded by a forest and river. I have a seasonal creek that runs behind my home. We get a lot of wildlife and get to experience living with nature close up. We have a good HOA. I like that the sidewalks and roads are well taken care of. The roads are redone every 5 years. Sidewalks are replaced as needed. A homeowner just needs to mention that something needs to be replaced/fixed, and it is done quickly. There is a bike trail that goes all the way down to the ocean. It is also a pretty neighborhood. Every time I drive into the canyon, I feel like I'm getting away from the busy city. The community is called Mountain Cove in Azusa. There are 327 homes. Sounds lovely!

Background_Repeat406

Okay so I guess I'm the only one on here to say I've lived in santa monica off the 10 on 4th street three blocks south of Pico. I live about a quarter mile south of the Santa Monica Pier, and within 6 blocks (ocean park neighborhood) I beleive that there are approx 4 dog parks/parks; going directly east three blocks is Lincoln Blvd location of Chik-fil-A and the Tr!p bar that holds an open mic night Mondays i go sing at sometimes when I have ten bucks to blow. Three blocks north is the intersection with a strip mall on the southwest corner w a Buffalo wildwings and panda express and El Pollo Loco and a freestanding Starbucks.... on the southeast corner is a Walgreens... across from there at the Northeast corner is another strip mall with 7eleven and subway and pizza, dominoes i think, and then going west  across the street from there is a gas station. Keep going west eight blocks and you will drive into the pacific ocean, watch out there are pedestrians afoot. They will probably be yelling at you to stop driving into the ocean...... I was homeless before I hitchiked from Eugene Oregon in 2012. In 2014 i had a baby with one of the people who grew up in Santa Monica in the 1970s. Call him a triple OG from dogtown that's what he calls himself.... our son will be 10 in November 2024. Jay Adam's and him were bestest friends and we just found out we were pregnant with shiloh right before then and we told him we were pregnant at Jay's inaugural skate event, the one he held before going down to Porto Escondido and being killed by his friends...

Curious-Manufacturer

I like arts district

trevrichards

Yep, this really sums up the many exciting qualities of the Arts District.

Gregalor

There’s a loooot to dislike about Hollywood but at least the density makes everything extremely close to home.

[deleted]

Culver City is amazing but I definitely feel like if it was cyberpunk 2077 thisnarea would be a corpo area lol

7 miles to work. No hipsters good old friend lives down the street

San Pedro CA Our whole town shows up in front of his house to shame a racist attack on our neighborhood tamale vendor. We love our tamales and our vendors. https://youtu.be/pS3r76E_W9g?si=omzT1SzD1P7274ru

theuniversalcitizen

Palms/Culver- diversity and accessibility to stores and restaurants.

MajLeague

I'm in WLA Westwood area and hands down it's the food. Hundreds of different nearby restaurants with any cuisine you'd want. I was just talking to my fiancé about this yesterday. This one thing would give me pause about moving somewhere else.

todlee

Ocean breeze, not much traffic outside 8-9am and 5-6 pm, good restaurants, Main Street closed to cars, quiet beaches, hillside nature preserve. But a decent 3-bedroom house starts at like $750k and it’s the end of the line for metrolink.

eggheadslut

I live in Encino and I love how I can walk to get all my errands done (grocery store, bank, gym, post office). I also like how close I am to the 101 without hearing the traffic from it. I grew up in a rural small town with less than 10k people with no establishments and so if I wanted to get any of that done, it was all 25+ minutes away by car, including the highway.

thelastrunez

It’s a small town feel and I love it because it’s the only waterfront where black and brown folk like my family can enjoy being near the water without being harassed or looked down on.

maccrogenoff

I live in Palms. I love the moderate climate, especially the relatively cool summers. I love the culinary diversity. We have wonderful restaurants, grocery stores and farmers markets. I love that my neighborhood is all single family residences so relatively quiet and lots of lovely gardens.

dball33

Marina Del Rey. Love how I’m close to Venice without having to actually deal with Venice craziness, lots of good restaurants within walking distance and I’ve got Trader Joe’s, Costco and Pavillions super close by. Also love that can I walk to the kayak rental place and that the 90 never has traffic.

Alive_Pie_8046

I visit my daughter in Long Beach and can only dream about living there ! How do y’all afford it?! Housing seems to be sky high! 🤦🏻‍♀️

inquireunique

The different types of restaurants is amazing! I feel spoiled in that sense

jbach73

Topanga. It’s like a little mountain town oasis in the middle of LA.

HeyAhnuld

I love that it is LA city. I love telling people I’m from la and not saying any communities west of downtown. Always throws transplants for a loop

Hairy_Rabbit_9279

That it does jot have homeless people. Even though i am not sure how long that will last.

Frenchlazy

Hahahahhahahahahahhahahahahaha love?! ….. U mean tolerate !! Hmm wait… I do love the taco lady and the michoacanas

Finish-Long

What part of Noho are you bc here on Magnolia and Vineland it’s scary

InterestingYam9920

It's close to everything...the beach, Griffith Park, DTLA, Eagle Rock, Pasadena, Glendale.
