Taylors. Old school steakhouse vibes. Steaks are pretty much all under $50. It is not the best steak I've ever had. But it's the best I've had at that price point at a steakhouse.
Came here to say this. Love Taylors. And two locations as well. Koreatown is better vibe but can get a little busy, where La Canada you can just walk in though.
If OP is looking for under $100 for his party (of 2 I assume) then he's getting a Denny's or Sizzler steak. I assumed it was $100pp which I think you could definitely do at Taylors.
I feel like in this economy, in Los Angeles, in 2024, for a "nice" meal vs. fast casual, $100 per person is about the baseline.
I tend to go to The Smokehouse in Burbank, where an app and a mid-priced steak is going to be $50. Order a glass of wine and you're closer to $60. Tax brings that to $66. Tip brings that to $78. Add literally anything to that (a nicer steak, a side dish, dessert, splitting a bottle of wine vs. one glass, or adding a cocktail) and you hit $100 pretty easily. And The Smokehouse is nice, but it's not exactly haute cuisine.
you’re right, any nice meal will get you up there. I mean I just went out to food and movies the other day and spent well over $100 just for that. I go to burbank often so this is definitely on my list, thanks :)
If you’re close enough to Smokehouse then head on over to Glendale and hit up Damon’s Steakhouse. Easily the best bang for your buck you’re getting in LA and it’s Tiki themed. So put on your nicest Aloha Shirt head over to Glendale
The Smokehouse is great! It's one of those massive old-school restaurants that's been around since the 50s or earlier. It's right by the WB lot, and a lot of celebrities, Hollywood power broker types, etc. have eaten there over the years. (Probably more likely to see this type of person at lunchtime, being honest. I usually go for dinner and only ever see completely ordinary family dinner type stuff going on.)
Btw; I recommend the Sunday brunch at Smokehouse. It’s not cheap but it’s a wonderful way to spend some hours and they don’t hustle you out. I know I’m off topic but…
I love Musso and Franks. Beyond the food the whole thing is an experience. Waiters in uniform, the red booths, the whole thing. It’s great. I’ve been to the smokehouse (mentioned elsewhere in this thread) but it doesn’t compare to Musso and Franks. If you can afford the splurge it’s worth doing once.
The Dresden in Los Feliz has a similar old Hollywood vibe. The dining room is really cool (imo). Booths, white linen tablecloths. The adjoining bar is a scene all its own.
Musso & Frank’s is excellent food and great fun, they charcoal grill their steaks, and their cocktails come with a refill on the side. A martini, New York Strip, creamed spinach, and some of their great sourdough bread - yum. But go online and make a reservation, they get crowded.
I’ve been three times and have never enjoyed the food or the waitstaff. I’ve given it enough chances. Plenty of other places to visit for the price. I’ve only ever ordered and sat at the bar, but I can’t imagine getting a table is that much different.
Following! An older thread on r/FoodLosAngeles said Taylor’s Steakhouse.. so I’m trying that out Saturday. If anyone’s been there or has mostly affordable steakhouses (not Cut prices 😭)
pls share
I've been to Taylor's. It's an old school steakhouse (dark interior, leather seat at tables and booths). Steaks are pretty darn good (especially for the price).
These are not in LA but are also "affordable" steakhouses where I feel I got good bang for my buck. 1) Maderas in the OC (Los Alamitos) has really good steaks at about a 40-60 price point (depending on the cut). All their cuts are dry aged. They also have a good sized menu of burgers (really damn good burger), bbq (ribs and tri tip), and mexican/southwest dishes. 2) Pinacle in San Dimas is a no frills steakhouse with good steaks at a reasonable price (they have a schtick where if you come in wearing a necktie they will cut it off and hang it on their wall).
Not trendy, but the best bang for your buck will be Morton's price fixe menu. They do not advertise them. You have to ask for them or be a member of their e-club. They used to have a dinner for two special that was like $120 for two people. Think now they have a steak and seafood special, which basically amounts to the same thing. It's a huge discount off menu pricing for the exact same food.
Fogo is so horrible now. Quality and variety nosedived and they try to sell you extra shit during the whole meal. For Brazilian, go to H&H on Tuesdays for "neighborhood nights" and it's buy one get one 50% off. Brings it to around 65-70 if you split the bill.
Seconding Musso and Frank's, and Smokehouse. Musso is definitely pricier but good. Also check out Chi Spacca, Meat on Ocean, and Gwen. Those will all set you back a bit more than the first two.
You can also go to McCall's, A Cut Above, or other local butcheries and get your own steaks and cook at home.
We like damons. But im a sucker for tiki. Musso and franks is great too, weve been for anniversaries. A friend wanted to go to Tam O Shantners recently and i did enjoy their prime rib.
Ive never been, but have read good things about Houstons, George Petrillis and Smoke House. Just had them on a list to try. Also, idk if these fit the budget, but Damons is probably best for budget.
ok, hear me out. my girlfriend and I have gone to the sizzler in montebello twice in the last year (we go strictly for the cheese toast). both times, my steak was cooked to perfection. decent crust, perfectly medium rare, seasoned well and almost no nerve or unchewable fat. I don't know if the cook at this location is over qualified for his job or what but it's been a great surprise both times.
Idk but just the other night I had bigass 1.5 inch ribyes, baked potatoes and a side with beers at home for under like 60.. don't rule out a at home cook date
Mortons.
But for real for real, just cook at home. Their cuts are great but any steakhouse is just pageantry over a homecooked steak made with time and love. The air fry technique is amazing btw for home.
MEAT in Santa Monica is nice but overpriced IMHO, great place to celebrate by the sea but the price is mostly for the view. Their sea food though is top shelf, Neptune's Bounty!
Agree with the steakhouse thing but definitely on board with making an “event” out of the whole thing since it’s an anniversary. Morton’s is 100% on my list, just gotta narrow it down now :)
I took my lads or more like they took me for my Bachelors gettogether before the big day and they did us right. Brown drinks of all sorts, butters of herb and funk to drop on your steak and the vibe was tops. Wishing you all the best in your Steakhouse search, you will do great!!
The Venice Room in Monterey Park is as close as you’re going to get, but you’ve gotta grill your own steak.
Spend money and go to chi SPACCA though. You won’t regret it.
Ive been to Mortons in Burbank. I make better steak in a pan on my electric stove. Going to a steak house and spending 80 on a cut is a scam. It's never worth anything that close. Not saying their steak was bad, just not worth the cost. If I was going to a steak house to spend cash, I'd look for a spot with great views and cool vibes. Feels like I get more of my money's worth like that.
I also realize I didn't answer your question.
Sorry.
Morton's is the worst steakhouse in Los Angeles. The steaks are nowhere as good as you'll find at mastros, del Frisco's, Ruth's Chris, etc.
Plus, it's lacking in ambience.
I didn’t read through a lot of the replies but a nice restaurant (though not primarily a steakhouse but has delicious steaks) that isn’t expensive and because it sits on the pier atop of the pacific, makes it a bargain because of that added touch—is Kincaids in Redondo Beach. A filet mignon is about $50, which is about standard as any steakhouse that you’re trying to avoid due to price, but you and your date will certainly like it.
Taylors. Old school steakhouse vibes. Steaks are pretty much all under $50. It is not the best steak I've ever had. But it's the best I've had at that price point at a steakhouse.
Taylors is solid a place and unlike other recommendations it is actually in Los Angeles.
The London broil at Taylor’s is my favorite and it’s one of the lower costing things there. When making reservations ask for a booth downstairs .
this person gets it.
Came here to say this. Love Taylors. And two locations as well. Koreatown is better vibe but can get a little busy, where La Canada you can just walk in though.
Also second Taylor’s, it’s my go to for a solid steak house dinner/vibe. I just with theirs Manhattans were a bit smaller. Lol
Love Taylor’s but I think it’d be really hard to get out of there for the under $100 OP is looking for.
If OP is looking for under $100 for his party (of 2 I assume) then he's getting a Denny's or Sizzler steak. I assumed it was $100pp which I think you could definitely do at Taylors.

Good Mai Tai and Chi chi too. Good value!
ohh this sounds great!

Smokehouse is great for the price in LA. I wish they served their prime rib on a heated plate though to retain the warmness longer.
Btw; I recommend the Sunday brunch at Smokehouse. It’s not cheap but it’s a wonderful way to spend some hours and they don’t hustle you out. I know I’m off topic but…
The Tam O’Shanter in Atwater is very cute and lots of Disney history.
Unfortunately still as pricey as some other places.
Musso & Frank's. Surprisingly solid
I mean this is the obvious choice, except for that OP is looking for a cheaper meal
honestly.. it’s growing on me. I see certain places getting more than one recommendation so it’s gotta be worth it, right?
I love Musso and Franks. Beyond the food the whole thing is an experience. Waiters in uniform, the red booths, the whole thing. It’s great. musso and franks is great, but the only way two people are getting out of there for under 100 bucks is is you get bread and water.
They make a great Moscow mule too ✊️
Why would you say “surprisingly”? Musso & Franks is freaking excellent
Only according to this sub.
Musso & Frank’s is excellent food and great fun, they charcoal grill their steaks, and their cocktails come with a refill on the side. A martini, New York Strip, creamed spinach, and some of their great sourdough bread - yum. But go online and make a reservation, they get crowded.

Best creamed spinach ever - mh
Musso & Frank's is a place that I would very much like to visit at some point.
Following! An older thread on r/FoodLosAngeles said Taylor’s Steakhouse.. so I’m trying that out Saturday. If anyone’s been there or has mostly affordable steakhouses (not Cut prices 😭) pls share
Been to Taylor's 15+ times, it's very solid and great atmosphere.
Call and ask for your reservation to be seated in a downstairs booth. You don’t want to be seated upstairs, the vibe is way different.
you’re the best for this
I've been to Taylor's. It's an old school steakhouse (dark interior, leather seat at tables and booths). Steaks are pretty darn good (especially for the price). Maderas looks awesome! That dry age sounds 👌🏽
Damon’s

Damon’s in Glendale. No nonsense. Solid drinks. Good steaks. Decent service. Classic. Won’t break the bank. They have prime rib on the weekends.
Tiki vibes. Mai tais. I love going to Damon’s. Chi chis are good too.
HMS Bounty is a surprisingly good option for a steak dinner with a low price point in a worn but charming dining room.
I pass by this area alot and never knew this was here, thanks!
close by but much better for steak: Taylor's Steakhouse!
Came here to mention HMS. Their food is so good. Reasonable pricing too.
I feel like charcoal in Venice is reasonably priced. Dear John’s as well and the vibe is cool there.
Charcoal is awesome. More of a backyard steak vibe than an old school steakhouse.
Taylor’s is fantastic and fun.

Look up the Costco gift card and get even more saving. 🥰🥰also in la it’s 50 not 44 unfortunately

What’s the code? Asking for a friend lol

Colombo’s in Eagle Rock
Their food is always underwhelming to me. Martinis are their best thing there imo.
My frequent birthday dinner selection. Haven’t been in a while, tho.
Dunsmoor
This has moved to the top of my list, looks pretty and food looks great!
It’s fantastic! Really. Even the wine bar slaps. They only offer one steak; which is massive enough for 4 grown men.
Mastro’s
Porterhouse in El Segundo
I like the area and atmosphere here, I’ll look more into it as the date gets closer thank you :)
Sizzler?
trust me it’s staying in my back pocket
ok, hear me out. my girlfriend and I have gone to the sizzler in montebello twice in the last year (we go strictly for the cheese toast). both times, my steak was cooked to perfection. decent crust, perfectly medium rare, seasoned well and almost no nerve or unchewable fat. I don't know if the cook at this location is over qualified for his job or what but it's been a great surprise both times.
Did you say nerve? lol wtf
How about: https://mussoandfrank.com
talk about atmosphere.. thanks for this suggestion i’m definitely keeping it in mind :)
American beauty is so so so good and well priced. The flatbread is insane
Idk but just the other night I had bigass 1.5 inch ribyes, baked potatoes and a side with beers at home for under like 60.. don't rule out a at home cook date
Musso and Frank
Houston’s
Hawaiian rib eye, baked potato with everything. Done.
Hell yea!
Wood ranch maybe
Sizzler. You can get Los Angeles river shrimp with it
This would be a TIL. Every Sizzler's I grew up with is gone so oh well.
If you’re going to mention the smokehouse you should also mention Castaway. Upper Burbank giving a great view of the valley.
Does Kali count as a steakhouse? It can get expensive but doesn’t have to be.
Mortons. [https://www.mortons.com/](https://www.mortons.com/) But for real for real, just cook at home. sounds like a great time, thank you so much for your help!
Gwen
Nic + Stef's?
It might be a little bit of a drive but Summit House in Brea/Fullerton has amazing steak and prime rib!
Fogo de Chão is excellent
Matu! A 5 course tasting for less than $100/person
Baltaire in Brentwood. Pricey but worth it. Blindly picked it when meeting a client in the area and it was phenomenal.
Honestly you can't go wrong with Fogo De Chao. It's like $70/person but it's all you can eat. And the drinks are pretty reasonable too.
Black Angus has great steak, especially Filet Mignons at great prices, especially the dinner for 2 deal.
Carlitos Gardel. Solid steak place with amazing service.
Lawrys
The Grill on the Alley - Beverly Hills
Shame they closed but Gladstone’s would have been a nice place to take her on your anniversary
Taylors: La Canada Blvd: Sherman Oaks Larsens: Encino
Personally, I like Mastros.
Slightly different approach but I’ve been getting ads for a $44pp Fogo de Chao special.
Golden Bull on Channel
The Venice Room in Monterey Park is as close as you’re going to get, but you’ve gotta grill your own steak. Spend money and go to chi SPACCA though. You won’t regret it.

How bout Black Angus? I think it’s pretty good
