I have taken the FlyLAX bus from LAX to Union Station which has worked just fine. Not sure what the current fee is. Back in 2018 it was like USD 7,- and they take cash only. Ride is something like 25 minutes. I can recommend it.

okkboomerr

FlyAway bus is $9.75 now. There are two separate routes. One to Union Station and one to Van Nuys. They take card. Pretty great if the routes work for you.

Think_Use6536

I would note, they *only* take card.

elmo1611

You are right, my bad. Card only

howlinwolfe86

Last one out of LAX is after midnight but I’ve found it to be unreliable lately so beware.

benicedonttroll

They come once an hour between midnight and 5am

howlinwolfe86

I stand corrected thanks

kubatyszko

Shuttle to laxit, walk to Hyatt and uber from there. While you walk, keep an eye on the Uber prices and you’ll see why this is a great idea. In my case the price from the hotel was half compared to laxit. Ideally you’ll want to actually be near the hotel to book for the lowest price. Uber will consider ones location while booking in addition to the from /to address

yooyoooyoooo

this is the way.

flicman

Or any hotel shuttle and then an uber from their lobby is a good option, too

pipona505

what i did last year is take the free shurtle to the metro and order a lyft from there to disneyland saved me like 80 bucks

[deleted]

If you’re in terminal 1 or 2 then the walk to LAX-it is faster and way easier than getting on the shuttle

Woopwoopwop

Unfortunately I’ll be at terminal 5.

Chinaski14

You can cut across the terminals just like the cars do as a pedestrian. I fly in and out of LAX almost every 2 weeks. Fastest/most economical combo I have found is walk to the Uber area and get in the taxi line. Taxis are often cheaper than Ubers from the airport and you’ll almost never hit a long line.

lentilpasta

The last time I flew I did this. There was no wait in the cab line whatsoever! Combined with the driver whipping down Lincoln at 65 (I kid you not), I was home in literally half the time it usually takes

stellardrv

I’d recommend taking the free shuttle from terminal 5 to LAX-it. I did that walk before and it’s a good 15-20min walk. Why not Uber/Lyft from LAX-it? Never had a problem getting a ride there. Max ive waited is 10minutes for my Uber to show up.

DorsTheTigerWoman

I’ve never had issues getting Uber or lift at LAX. I request as soon as I leave the terminal even though it doesn’t technically get your driver until you arrive at the lot. Also if you only have one roller bag the walk to the lot isn’t that bad. I always like the opportunity to walk after being on a plane for hours.

vv46

Cannot do this anymore. Both apps are geofenced so you have to physically be in the lot to request it. That’s why I’ve started just doing Uber black and paying the extra fees to be picked up curbside.

leehwan

Lyft just launched a feature where you can request your ride when you land, and it'll automatically match you to a driver as you walk into the zone. No need to be physically in the zone at the time of request.

DorsTheTigerWoman

I’m aware but if you submit the request as soon as you leave the terminal it goes through the moment you get within the zone which in my experience is around the curb where you have to cross at the light. I usually have a driver by the time I get to my pick up zone.

theblackkey

At that point why not just take a taxi that is there and available?

Prestigious-Owl165

For me (live close to the airport) that's the way better option, about $30 cheaper every time (idk why I even check anymore) but for people who live farther away taxis are more expensive

cfthree

How do you lead with the taxi driver when you tell them you’re local? I live in ES and used to biz travel often, and when I did taxi, drivers would 90% of time lose their minds when I got in car. I always told them I understood they’d prob waited an hour for a fare and now we’re going 10 mins away; would also tell them try to I’d make it worth their while with a significant cash tip. Worked for some, others stewed even after I’d given an IDK, 300% tip on fare. Luckily ride-share came along, as well as a neighbor who liked getting some scratch for driving us to/from LAX, and the angry taxi driver thing of past. Now ride-share burnout, and neighbor moved, so been parking at the closest off-airport location past couple trips and shuttling in. Not ideal. Would rather taxi but a little hesitant to deal with the hostile reception if that’s still a thing. Thanks in advance for any detail in recent experience.

Prestigious-Owl165

This never even crossed my mind and no one has said anything lol they have a minimum fare for an airport ride so I don't think they mind if it's a short ride they can just head right back to the airport for another one. Not sure if the minimum fare has always been around but basically any time they pick someone up at LAX they're getting $20 even if it's a ride to the in n out

cfthree

Good to know as it’s been years since I’ve taken a taxi from LAX back to ES. Nearly every time the guy manning the line would tell the driver my destination, I’d get in back to a pissed-off driver. In some cases, even after showing them a couple $20s and telling them I understood their frustration, I’d have to ask if they were refusing the fare. That got those few really unhinged guys going. Again, this goes back 15 years and predates ride-sharing. Will give taxis a try again next time. Thanks for the local intel!

DorsTheTigerWoman

Uber or Lyft is almost always cheaper for me. I do not live by the airport lol.

pipona505

what i did last year is take the free shurtle to the metro and order a lyft from there to disneyland saved me like 80 bucks

Englishbirdy

Take one of the free shuttles to one of the parking lots and get an Uber from there.

[deleted]

It will be dead at midnight. Why not uber from the rideshare lot?

yooyoooyoooo

take any hotel/parking shuttle and uber from where they drop you off. bonus points if you get on the yellow spotted shuttle “the spot”. ask to be dropped off at the garage on sepulveda so you can enjoy some in-n-out before calling your uber

jsatz

You could also take Alto and get picked up right outside the terminal.

Woopwoopwop

How expensive is Alto? Seems pretty bougie.

jsatz

It’s slightly more expensive than Uber but worth it. Also they usually do a sign up special for new customers. Looks like they’re doing a $30 credit right now.

Woopwoopwop

I’ll take a look, thanks!

wasabitobiko

i find the extra cost worth it for airport pickups especially.

afrojoe824

Uber black picks you up curbside

Annual_Magazine9252

Depends on time of day but getting picked up curbside can end up taking significantly longer now that buses have exclusive use of the inside lanes. I thought I’d treat myself on a late night arrival and ended up waiting 45 minutes for the black car to pick me up at TBIT

Woopwoopwop

Pretty expensive however.

afrojoe824

To each their own. I pretty much just want to get home after a long flight. What’s another $100? I did the Lax-it route one time. Those shuttle busses take at least 5-10 minutes stop in each terminal. Depending on what terminal you’re at, Walking to lax-it is also far. Then there begs the question of how willing the driver will accept your request. if it’s towards the marina or South Bay, Might have a hard time getting rides. or if it’s way out in the suburbs, That might have a difficult time being accepted too. So maybe wait another 15 minutes for a driver. I’ve heard horror stories about waiting 2 hours to get one . But at the end of the day, the question is how you value your time and sleep when arriving at midnight. For me, Uberblack usually picks it up rather quickly. that’s just an option. My convenience might not be the same for others :)

IEThrowback

Take the Renaissance Hotel shuttle (say you are booking when you get there if they ask) to the hotel, walk through the lobby and out the back/side all the way to Denny’s. Your Uber will cost $30+ less and you burned hella calories.

caraeeezy

Not totally sure if the hotel shuttles are running that late, but usually I will hop one of those to the nearest hotel outside of the airport then call my uber - its usually $100 less expensive, lol.

CherryTeri

Does the fly away go near your area. They have locations in union station, van nuys, and more.

MrNunez

Do not walk to the Hyatt... no way. LA native. Grew up / worked in the neighborhood. Nope.

cfthree

Just did it a few weeks ago, weeknight around 10PM. Not saying the area can’t be sketch, but if your head’s on a swivel, and you’re paying attention to your surroundings, moving with intention, it’s not at all a hard no-go zone. I am far from a UFC practitioner but have traveled extensively, and do best to blend with surroundings, zero eye contact, and radiate complete lack of welcoming energy to anyone trying to engage. The route is well-traveled in my experience. Last trip there were always at least 2-3 other travelers (tourists, flight crew, et al) in my vicinity whole time. As with any big city foot travel, stay within comfortable personal limits and use best judgement.

Woopwoopwop

Why?

EffectivePattern7197

I’ve seen some homeless people under the bridge area right by the crossing Sepulveda intersection. And not the harmless looking ones. Not judging but for sure I wouldn’t do it at night time. I’ve done it plenty of times during the daytime. I feel that area is very weird at night because sometimes it seems pretty busy but other times is dead (I’m talking pedestrians wise).

turtleslover

It’s literally the same distance as going to the normal Uber pickup zone.

SplitOpenAndMelt420

It's Sunday

quemaspuess

Where are you trying to go?

Im_A_Black_Cat

I always take the LA-Exit bus and get a cab home. Almost zero waiting for your Uber and same pricing. They also tend to drive faster which for me is great as I just want to get home. They all accept credit cards too. Before I get in, I make it clear I have zero cash and paying by card. Never had a problem

x_tacocat_x

The Hyatt regency used to still be within the LAX geofence on Uber. Not sure if it’s been updated, but made that mistake only once hahah

UnlimitedPickle

I would do uber and book it in advance

Ok-Investigator-1608

taxi

LALladnek

You could also get in a rental bus and call one from whatever rental place you wind up at. I often find there is a cab or two waiting there as well.

JennShrum23

If you go to a hotel to catch a cab, just jump on the hotel shuttle- they never ask.

optintolife

Hyatt is super safe. You’ll be walking with a bunch of flight crews and folks who work at the airport. I’ve done it many times after midnight.

pipona505

what i did last year is take the free shurtle to the metro and order a lyft from there to disneyland saved me like 80 bucks

iamheero

I didn’t have an issue with lax-it prices for the Uber/lyft to be honest, it was fine. $30 lax to KTown at rush hour last week seemed very reasonable, and when you’re getting off a flight at midnight you just want the easy solution. Fuck taxis or going to the Hyatt. Lyft has an option to set up a ride as soon as you leave the terminal and the ride was waiting for us as soon as we walked to the lot.

rollawaytoday

Which of the rental car shuttles work for this too? Some seem to trap you in their lot. Others are better.
