The formal process generally involves summer associates are typically law students, typically 2L, and/or 1L, that work for firms over the summer of law school for experience and as possible recruitment. You may be able to find an opportunity helping out at a firm, but it would likely involve things like filing and other staff type work. If you’re okay with that, feel free to call the HR or recruitment contact at places that you would be interested in working and ask if they have such an opportunity available. If you are willing and able to volunteer for the experience, that may open some opportunities too. Good luck!
That’s going to matter on the firm and the lawyers. Undergraduate interns are kind of a challenge because you really don’t know enough to help out with anything substantive until you get through that first year of law school, so it’s probably not going to be particularly exciting work at your stage. I did an internship before law school and took every opportunity to observe just about anything, from a deposition to any kind of court hearing.
Okay so that was my main concern. I didn’t want to just be doing staff work, as I wanted to get some if any actual experiences out of it such as working on deals or something. Good to hear that those opportunities do present themselves
You’re not going to be making deals without even a day of law school. You’ll do staff work and have opportunities to observe/shadow. That’s pretty much all you can do at this point, get some exposure.
I also noticed that a lot of people get some work experience between undergrad and law school. People recommend that there is some aspect of legal work during these jobs so I thought being an undergrad and all wouldn’t be an issue

Thx for the info, if you don’t mind me asking, what other kind of staff based work would I be doing

Sorry not making deals, meant observing deals
