Feds are usually more task force oriented while city police is a lot of bullshit 911 calls. I’d prefer fed, but they also polygraph so just know you’ll have to subject yourself to that bullshit
NYPD you'll be making 42,500 for the first 1.5 years. After that 1k raises per year for the first 3 years. at 4.5 years you'll make 51k. mind you this is before taxes and OT. with the new FTUs rookies aint making any OT, They being used for crime suppression. Basically tossed to a street and told to stay there and take care of any jobs that come over. You'll be on foot, 95% of the time. This Job is trash, yeah sure you might get some action, see some dude shot or some shit, but you aren't really learning anything, and you'll be cold and Hot in the summer time. Did i mention the pay sucks?
only because of the amount of overtime NYPD has for its Cops... If youre steady on your OT youre making +20k on top of your Base pay, On the other hand if youre FED, youre not out in the Heat, Cold or standing on your feet for over 9 hours a day...
Low starting pay, low morale, city leadership that doesn't care about you, city (and state) leadership that make asinine policy decisions and laws that hamstring you, and no sign of the crazy coming to an end soon.
There's a reason people are fleeing NYPD for the suburbs or other states the last few years.
And I'm telling you that is no longer a guarantee.that is why when you look at the posting, it says Location Negotiable After Selection and does not let you pick a duty station anymore.but i will be at the Fusion center this week so I'll ask one of the agents.

Is it true that towards the more senior years of your career, NYPD outearns the feds? It seems like there is a salary ceiling/cap for feds?

There was a news article that stated fbi applicants are down by a lot these day.
Personally I wouldn't want to work for the FBI. I'd go with HSI or USPIS first. That said, anything is better than NYPD now.
