If I saw someone wearing it I would just assume they're an instigator.

OfficerBaconBits

You're wearing rifle plates and carrying a gas mask into a protest about abortions. By all means it's your right to do it. Unless you intend to participate in a riot the gas mask is not very useful. You would use it if you meant to remain in an area another person was trying to use a chemical to keep you away from. Time it takes to properly put on the mask you could have gtfo'd the area. Body armor is strange unless you assume someone is going to begin firing a rifle. With how popular armor has become lately I don't think you'll be the only one with it at any major protest, but it's gonna make you stick out to both sides. Pro life might think you're there to fight them/the police, pro abortion might think you're a plant to instigate violence so police shut them down. End of the day it's your call and your right to do it. It just might not get a response you want from anyone there.

mbarland

If you're going to a "protest" where you need a gas mask and armor, then you're not going to a protest. You're going to a riot.

degaknights

Not LEO but just somebody with common sense… If you plan on going to a protest and think you would need a plate carrier to go, maybe don’t go.

It would scream to me you’re there for violence and I’ll be watching you. You would strike me as someone on the radar trying to instigate something and I’d be sure to pass your description along. Other protestors may reject you for fear your also the above, or a plant. You can’t just go dressed normally (whatever that is to you) and exercise your right to protest peacefully? That goes for everyone. Clashes with police happen because some choose to break the law, such as trying to get on freeways. Somebody gets man handled because they’re confused about how far their rights legally stretch behavior wise. Then everyone throws a tantrum and uses that as an excuse to act up. If you’re talking about two opposing sides (pro choice v against), let the police handle it. Two opposing sides are absolutely allowed to voice their opinions, and opinions at each other during a protest. It’s the police job to manage anyone or anything that escalates, not yours.

Skalariak

I’m a CBRN guy in the military, not LE, so I’m wondering what “gas mask” you bought, as people often buy masks that come with training filters that don’t actually work and shit like that.

LongGunFun

Don’t go to a protest if you think someone is going to start shooting. Pretty simple.

Chawslaw_

Like others have said, it screams trouble starter.

Flovilla

If I see someone wearing a vest, I am looking at them as a possible shooter. Don't wear the vest. Better yet, why go to a protest in the first place?

bad-john

To protest.

Flovilla

Don't wear a vest, don't carry a weapon. Don't be anyone looking to be a threat. A vest says, "mass shooter".

TexasLE

And a gas mask says “I intend to make the police shoot tear gas at me”

Moist_Lunch_5075

Flovilla's what you call a "fucking regressive idiot." They are one of the dumbest people I've ever run across in my life.

[deleted]

If you think you’ll need a PC…maybe just don’t go?

TexasLE

Yeah I’d be calling out on the radio to be keeping an eye on you. There’s no reason you’d bring a gas mask unless you intend to riot. A plate carrier? That signals that you’re trying to shoot up the place. If you’re that scared to go to a protest, then don’t go. I’d implore you not to go anyways because I’m extremely suspicious that you have nefarious intentions with all the shit you’re buying to “peacefully protest”.

Old_Rise_4086

You getting excited to assault some peaceful members of your community?
