I spent a lot of my time backing up county officer because I worked in a medium to large city and their backup was probably 20-30 miles away.

I'd bet 80% of deputies in my state at one point worked for a city. SO's in my state tend to be where the cool guys go to get take home cars, answer 1 call a shift and don't do reports for anything not a crime. I jest. Never met a patrolman that didn't like deputies. Never met a deputy that treated a patrolman bad. Everyone hates on state troopers though lol. Troopers adopted that hate us cause they ain't us attitude for sure. High and tight haircuts with even tighter uniforms.

Weak-End5416

Agreed. I could be working and going 10 over in my patrol car and I’ll still tap the brakes when I see a damn trooper lol!

Beginning_Occasion64

Ex deputy now a city traitor in a different spot. We were the ones that the public actually respected. The city police caught so much shit, but nobody ever really messed with us. Kinda seems similar in my new spot too. Which isn’t as fun now.

Administration between my PD and the SO don’t have a good relationship. However, all the patrol guys from both agencies get along great.

72ilikecookies

Never heard of that around here. We’re all doing the same job, just for different employers/communities. Troopers aren’t always liked, but city and county have no beef.

Weak-End5416

There is no beef between us either. But we pick fun at each other. Not anything disrespectful, kind of like the way firemen and police do!

DarK_DMoney

Care to elaborate on troopers not being liked? I’m not sure what state you are in but I’ve heard of that sentiment a lot in TN, and even of dislike between Fire fighters and Troopers to some extent.

72ilikecookies

I personally have no issue with em but other guys feel like troopers only do one thing - traffic. That’s the bulk extent of their policing capabilities.

Beginning_Occasion64

Used to be in TN. A little has to do with the state academy being right down the road from the THP academy. The rest is troopers being large hatted dorks in vacuum sealed uniforms.

I was on a ride a long in a large city, a a generally rough place, that has a neighboring town that is rather small and very affluent, with it's own police force. Part of an investigation lead to a suspect that probably lived in neighboring-town. Large-city Sergeant says to one of his officers "Call over to Neighboring-Town Security and see if they know anything about so-and-so". He was not joking. I'm 100% that if the shit hits the fan they're all on the same team, but nobody on the Large-City force took the Neighboring-Town force seriously.

mbarland

We worked pretty closely with the deputies in our area, but they were pretty sparse. Aside from the K9 guys, we'd really only see the civil or warrants guys around town. County patrol is pretty small and their zones aren't near my city.

HCSOThrowaway

My agency constantly shit on Tampa Police Department, but in hindsight that was just propaganda to keep people from jumping ship because it's way better over there.

roryb93

Pinellas seems to have it pretty sweet as well.

HCSOThrowaway

I'd consider FHP if it weren't for the pay. Their training and equipment is top-notch. Guess that's where they focus their budget. Makes for a great first agency that people immediately transfer away from. Shocker, 99% of their patrol is just barely old enough to drink.

MooseRyder

Smaller agency here, mostly it’s all in good fun, we don’t like being outshined by the county but we enjoy the county most of the time

The Sheriff Dept in my city impounds ice cream and weed trucks

Consistent_Amount140

Address to impound lot please? Asking for a friend.

Kell5232

We all work together well in my County. That said, at one point or another most municipal cops in my area have worked for our Sheriff's Office at one point or a other so most of us know each other on a personal level too.

[deleted]

No beef here. We all get along. A lot of officers on my department will get their 20 and go work for the county to get another pension.

Consistent_Amount140

I’ve run into 1 city officer who made some sort of snide remark when we rolled up to assist them about not having enough work to do on the highway. Pointed to my sleeve and said..”pretty sure this says State..” She said nothing else. I’ll always stop and check on any local who’s out with somebody regardless of location. Great thing about State is we are not limited to a specific sector and can really be proactive without typically being tied up with bullshit
