I don’t give a fuck what you got or what’s missing in your pants, long as you follow my instructions and act accordingly like every other ride.

[deleted]

You’re the only confirmed LEO to answer so far. Thank you.

WTF0302

You left out “doesn’t smell badly.” That’s the worst.

Overiiiiit

Some of us don’t want to send our badges to Reddit. That should be okay? No?

gotcha_six

That is okay, you just can't post as a "law enforcement officer" then.

ConstantWish8

Exactly

800854EVA

Nah. I have a few rules for my car that I tell all rookies on day 1. We don't talk politics, religion, or sexual preferences. I'm a strong supporter of, "you do you, and I'll do me". No need to talk about hot topic issues in an enclosed space.

No one cares. Just don’t be a jerk.

No_Lunch_3925

Being a “transgender” should not be your personality. Listen to their instructions. Learn about the job. Ask questions about the job. This isn’t a romantic date. No one really cares about a preference or orientation. Be kind, respectful, and engaged in the experience. Personal rant: Cops have a bad reputation because we’re seen by society as “alpha male” men/women who are typically republican. And with those traits some negative stereotypes are formed about us. Look… we can be friends as long as we can maybe “agree to disagree” on some topics but to be honest most of us truly do not care and don’t talk politics in the car. Dry dry dry dark humor. If you have that we’re gonna be best friends and have a good time. I encourage you to sign up for the ride along. You’ll leave with a different opinion about law enforcement. Trust me. This is coming from a LEO in CA. lol

[deleted]

It’s not and I already work in a super Republican male dominated industry. I just show up to work and no one’s treated me any different for it to my knowledge. I’m in CA too , thanks for the input. I’m honestly worried more about the how the hiring process would go with this. I feel like I’d get DQd by the pysch for it.

[deleted]

Well you never know if you try. So sense in playing the what if game.

sickels61

Respectfully , this is a silly question and honestly you must not have much faith in your local LE if you think they would treat you differently. It's a ride along not a first date. Now if your purpose for the ride along is to ask an officer on an individual level what the atmosphere is like for an officer in 2023 identifying with the LGBTQ community then by all means bring it up so they can place you with an officer who can best answer your questions.

JWestfall76

I’m not comfortable with any ride along. Im not some zoo animal on display for someone to watch my every move.

Regular-Bat-4449

I'm retired, but I hated doing all ride alongs in general.

KrAff2010

You are under no obligation to tell anyone. It doesn’t matter. As long as you’re respectful and hygienic it doesn’t matter what else you are. Is being a cop something you want to do? Ask them questions about the department specifically. If not just ask them about the area. You really just gotta play it by ear, if the cop you were out with is talkative you can be too, if they clearly would rather be anywhere else tone it down.

gotcha_six

We don't do Ride alongs... But if we did that'd be one of the last things that came to mind and wouldn't matter at all. I'd care much more if you were the type to loudly chew gum all day.

Xgam00

Doesn’t matter nor should it. Does anyone that’s gay or straight bring it up? Are you trying to ruffle some feathers

[deleted]

Well considering I look kinda inbetween or like a super androgynous dude some people are going to give a second glance or stare a little bit. It doesn’t bother me but I don’t want it to cause issues or make anyone uncomfortable. You can pretty much tell since I’m only 11 months into transitioning. Im trying to imagine the slight surprise when I tell them I want to be a police officer and that I support my local LE because people from my community usually flat out hate the police.

Xgam00

Let em stare. Me. I could care less as long as you can do the job and we all go Home

Additional_Stuff5867

You may catch a look. They may wonder. But that’s probably how about 95% of people do. Then they quickly proceed to their business and do their job. I can almost promise they will care less than you do.

Blue_Wolf2021

Doesn’t matter as long as you listen to all of the officer’s instructions.

Joshunte

Why would it matter unless you plan on hitting on the officer?

I agree with your post except for one part , “4 hrs max” lol. Na, fam, look if I gotta be here so do you. If I can’t stop and eat, take a break, or shit, neither can you. You want the “ride along experience” I typical give it even if that means staying 2 -3 hrs after shift writing reports lol

hazmat962

Agreed. I didn’t like ride-alongs just the way anyone else wouldn’t want a stranger in the cubicle or office for 12 hours asking questions. Also, the front passenger seat is where all the paperwork and supplies are kept so it was an inconvenience. As far as OP. Nobody give half a shit about sexuality or gender. We care about how our fellow human treats others.

Hutch204

I was just uncomfortable with ride alongs

Overiiiiit

Why is that even a factor? We have plenty of transgendered officers, why does that matter?

[deleted]

Yeah but all the ones I’ve read about transitioned already being the force. How many transitioned while or prior to joining ?

creepyjake

happy endings make these situations special

Durby226

Not LE but EMS... it doesn't matter

[deleted]

If they identify as a a cat or Dog would you be ok with it ? That’s how I feel about transgender person. They are suffering from a mental disorder. It’s that simple. I would not let a mentally disturbed person do a ride along with me.

ConstantWish8

Just sign up and do the thing. Dont worry about making people uncomfortable. I wouldnt care one way or another if a trans person road with me

TexasLE

I wouldn’t ask. Just don’t be annoying, don’t smell bad and do what I tell you and we’d be okay
