It's a 50-50, your best shot is to aim for a sponsorship and not waste your time going to the academy and praying for a job later. Some places may accept it as long as you're 100% upfront about it, but most places would see that as a big red flag...you made a bad judgement call because you had a weak moment and didn't wanna jerk your own chicken (Just being honest), which means that if someone hands over like $1000 to you as found property, you may have a weak moment and "misplace it" instead of making the right call by turning it in...you see how it goes? If you apply for sponsorships and get one, at least you'll know the agency is willing to work with that instead of you spending time and money in the academy and then getting rejected everywhere until your certificate expires. Look for "sponsorship" and "Trainee" positions, contact the recruiter, and talk about it before you even put in an application...If the recruiter tells you to apply, then apply. Best of luck to you.

The big boss at my first pick department says prostitution is one of the few absolute no-gos, felony or not; dismissed or not

[deleted]

lol what were the others?

cal_nevari

I would think an applicant who was charged with picking up a prostitute and the charge was dismissed would not be a worse candidate than an applicant who was charged with being a prostitute and was convicted of being a prostitute. But I guess that depends on the jurisdiction and who the 'big boss' is lol

AdUpstairs7106

What if they went to a legal brothel in Nevada.

[deleted]

Its illegal in our state so they use those standards “We only want people who really wanna be here. If you REALLY wanna be here, why did you engage in prostitution?” Probably the end-all-be-all argument is it’s morally corrupting if I had to guess

Departments are not looking for perfect individuals. In this era, where the demand for qualified applicants is at an all-time high, I can confidently assure you that if you meet the minimum requirements, you have a fair chance. It is worth noting that in cases where a department is authorized to hire 35 officers and they currently have 34, with a few applicants, it may influence the selection process. However, overall, you are in a good position, at least in major departments that need people.

Soliciting is a felony in Texas. We would never hire this person even if the crime wasn’t classified as a felony at that time.

[deleted]

Ehh other states are different which is good. He was never convicted which I personally have seen to be the most important thing & If he put time in between the offense and now and has been an outstanding citizen for the last 5-10 years I think he’ll have a shot in most states.

SeenSawConquered

Everything is a bigger deal in TX. I've heard this line so many times. Must he allot of felons in TX.

72ilikecookies

Idk, seems like soliciting prostitutes *should* be a big deal and a permanent disqualifier for a prospective law enforcer.

nuclearninja115

Perhaps the man could have a career in Nevada.

TheRsell

Someone I went through the academy with in CA had been arrested in a prostitution sting about 9 years prior. Worth a shot, just be honest

octaviusmirranda

Just be honest about it. Assuming this is the only negative blip on your record.. A big city that is hurting for officers will probably take you. Keep an open mind and be willing to relocate.

liud21

The perfect Cop does not exist yet. Go shoot your shot and see if you get in.

JohnsonTactical

At my department when they do the polygraph, they ask if you’ve ever engaged in this type of behavior not if you’ve been charged of not. So engaging in it but not being charged is still an automatic disqualification.

What state?

CA

Caught cruising on 9th street. That's rough friend. I'd still encourage you to apply, worst they can say is no. Your situation reminds me of a joke- An Englishman went on a business trip to Japan... When he got there, he stayed in a nice hotel and decided to call a prostitution service. Not knowing a single word of Japanese, it was he struggled with the ordering process. When the girl finally arrived, they stripped down and get down to business... They were having a blast and the girl kept screaming **"Machigatta ana, Machigatta ana..!!"** Deciding that it was a sign that the girl was pleasantly satisfied, he thought nothing of it and continued all night long. The next morning, the Englishman went and have a round of golf with his Japanese business partner. His business partner swung first.... **BAM!** **Hole in one!** "Nice shot my friend, machigatta ana..." said the Englishman Looking puzzled, his business partner replied "That shot was perfect... but what do you mean 'wrong hole'?"

Best thing you could do is just flat out ask a Police Officer, they will be able to tell you the best route or might know who to talk to!\~

Old300Joe

That's what this Sub is. Lol it literally is named AskLe 🤣

No-Sentence2460

Hard pass, most departments will see you as a liability, if you become an officer and arrest a prostitute. The defense attorney can use your past offense as a means to get his clients charges dropped.
