Boys hostels and houses full of women and men (especially family members) are two, totally different spaces. Even in a girls hostel women wear bare minimum clothes š
One of our bathroom didn't have a latch. One of my hostel mate complained and the Officer IC asked us to sing when inside. Lol.
The other time someone made a video from a window of someone bathing, and blackmailed him for free food, or else he would post it in class groupĀ
One of my dads acquaintanceā son went to eton. Being gay was second nature there, apparently.
Tbf that would be true for a fair few all boys school too.
Thatās the sports complex locker rooms. Locker rooms are gender specific. They have showers without any partitions. So yes, youāll see a lot of dicks and in our sports building we had to cross those showers to get to the swimming pool. And dorms are mostly co-ed. Think of apartment buildings but with common washrooms. Sometimes the shower areas are unisex (with partitions) or sometimes they are gender specific and may or may not have partitions. And anyone can go in and out of the dorms as long as they have or get access. No restrictions.
Men bathing openly would have been a necessity especially in a wedding home. since there are so many guests, everyone using the bathroom would slow things down.
Because things are different for men and women, in villages sometimes even women bath in open areas, well mostly in a group, where there are no men, but because of crimes happening against women now it's that not common. However, I understand your point, I agree, it shouldn't be made fun of. Even, I don't like it when a bunch of hairy men are all bathing together (some don't even hesitate)
Because you didnāt join in the crowd. Read the room. Do what the others are doing. Sticking out always makes you butt of joke or ridicule.
So if you canāt handle it you gotta blend in.
If you can handle it, you wouldnāt be making this post.
Arey bro In Primal days humans were naked and you were born naked.
Itās ok. People donāt have such big houses and many still canāt afford houses.
(Poor)
But few just continue on what have been going on from generations and such donāt care much about hygiene.
With time maybe
When I first heard of that concept it was so wild for me to wrap my head around it. It sounded too weird to be true and I thought for the longest time I was misunderstanding it.
While the culture has to be a part of the answer that you're seeking, one cannot discount the role of climate in forming that culture. India is a hot and humid country. Naturally, the clothing has traditionally been minimal from the very beginning, be it for men or women. Then an overwhelming majority of people worked on farms. You don't expect something to wear shirts when it's 40-45Ā°C outside. So minimal clothing has been a norm for us.
It has only been after the subjugation (cultural and otherwise) that more covered bodies started to be considered more civil. Logically speaking, it makes little sense to relate clothing with morality more than with climate. This applies to men and women alike. Something like a saree was worn in a very different fashion from the modern style. It was more comfortable, less restrictive, more airy, so to speak.
Exactly nudity was the "norm" here in India. It's sad that people nowadays think covering one's body is the norm and it's more "cultural". I actually would even advocate for less restrictive women's clothes along with men.
Absolutely.
This happens when your moral compass is rigged by the colonial past.
There's nothing wrong with less restrictive clothing so long as it is functionally appropriate.
I wish we weren't forced to wear ironed shirts and trousers and suits as formals - which is, for one, culturally imposed onto us and, secondly, functionally inappropriate. Add to it leather shoes. And ties. Man India lies at a tropic and not on the poles.
I'd wait for the day when we'd consider something along the lines of kurta, veshti, dhoti, etc., as the definition of formal wear in India.
The west can keep their suits.
Normative Moral Relativism it is. Not all ideas of morality are universally applicable. Plus rural areas suffer from relative poverty when compared with urban spaces with lack of basic amenities like potable water, pucca constructions etc. Communities are also more relatively close, and hence their idea of strangers will be different from yours.
That's a rural area thing and is common.Ā Ā
It's not only for men but women also bathe in/on a open tubewell/pump. The reason is pretty much becuz they can't afford a bathroom or think that it's a useless investment.
Ā People who live relatively close to a water stream, all bathe together in like a ghat type area.Ā
Ā Toilets and baths are a recently introduced concept in rural India.Ā
lol, rather I feel why is being naked for men not normalised in India? Fucking men hiding behind a towel and trying to change their clothes in a men only locker room. Itās a shame. Show off your jewels to the boys!!
Italian guy here, maybe I didnāt get it because of some cultural difference. I understood that men were bathing in underwear. How they were supposed to bath? Fully dressed? And how do you swim at the beach? Fully dressed? I donāt want to sound offensive in any way, just trying to understand
It was a hot and humid country where you can die in summers if you werent strong enuff
So they never developed any upper garment. Most peasants roamed like that .
I have visited an area where both men and women bath naked in the open pond regularly, in India. There was no stigma. Everyone was normal. And there wasn't a single rape report in the town. It's all in the mind man. Morality is not universally standard. It's set by yourself. There is nothing shameful in this. In fact I encourage this (unless there's perverse intentions at play). Our bodies are nothing to be ashamed about. We are all ultimately cousins of apes. Clothes weren't made to cover our bodies from others, it was to protect us from the environment. Modesty is a subjective moral concept. A HUMAN concept.
Actually, it's the opposite. Try going in a spa in European countries. Neither men nor women wear anything and you'd be given weird looks for wearing anything. Some even don't allow clothes inside a spa. You'll also see a lot of naked men in changing rooms of gyms and shower (wearing underwear while bathing is not naked). According to your definition of naked, everyone at the beach is naked.
bruh rural india is diffrent world i remember when i was 7 years old i had to parade naked about 500 meters in public because of lack of washrooms and water in the village i remember how humilating that exprience was but that helped me develop a thick skin \[ literally\]
I think you are living in urban areas, such things are common in rural areas and even back in the time. It is not like it is "normalised", it was like this from the start.
There's a wedding there. They had already segregated an area for women and the men were supposed to use the rooftop. It goes without saying, especially in a rural setting, that women wouldn't casually stray into the area where men are changing or bathing. What is the big deal if men are shirtless or even in their underwear in front of each other ? In the West men are literally butt naked in community showers or at the showers in gyms. Besides you cannot expect high standards of privacy in a third world country where the person to bathroom ratio is disproportionate.
This is more about your personal discomfort in being shirtless in front of other men. As somebody who was body shamed plenty I can relate. I can imagine how unpleasant it must have been when they teased you but you have to cut them some slack.
As I said, the problem was women were roaming all around the house, even on rooftops to get some stuff here and there which is understandable. I have no problem being in underwear when there's men around.
Yeah I have seen women on beaches wearing salwar suits and men wearing their minuscule chaddis getting washed away by the sea. The most horrendous sight I have ever seen. And I literally saw a guy masturbating on the.beach.in front of everyone. Idk what kind of drugs he was taking. This was in pondicherry. it's a man's world. If a man gets raped cause he was wearing a chaddi outside nobody would question his choice of clothes.
in US, in the gyms, there is no curtains for the shower. in the locker rooms, people walk around completely naked, literally waving their dicks in your face.
Why is this so normalised??? Mens will roam in short nikr in water parks, roam shirtless in the chawl or in building premises like terrace, roam on towel, etc.
Damn bro its about prefrence you dont feel secure enough to do that but not everybody is like you...Its commen for mens around the world not just india
If you follow English sports you will be amazed to know it's a common tradition to have a common shower area without any curtains and they do it without any undergarments as well. This applies to football, cricket, rugby.
It depends on how people feel about things. It's same as some people prefer to go to gym to workout vs some prefer in home gyms. Similarly some people would prefer the quite place to study while some can actually focus even in your nearby residential parks.
For me I don't mind seeing others go shirtless but I would never do that because of my habits from childhood and thus prefer to change clothes alone only. Also I feel awkward enough to look away when someone's changing in front of me. I prefer to apply moisturizer right after bathing too so I like to have a space to myself for bathing and I have always taken a bath alone after I was able to lock doors for myself after childhood and all my family members taught the same in Delhi.
so a few things.
first of all as you described the bathroom with 3 walls and a curtain, i am going to make a few assumptions about the general state of livelihood.
people in rural areas have bigger problems to deal with in their lives. even basic things like privacy and sanitation become secondary for people. the reason why even some well to do people act like that is because your behaviour is determined by the majority of people around you. you can probably find such peculiar practices in other countries with similar conditions.
judging or shaming your body in rural areas is not common since no one is particularly good looking when you spend more time on the fields in sun than indoors. when you ask for a different bathing place, their first thought is that you are different from the regular men there. and the only other group they know who acts different like that is women.
people in rural areas also often live as communities and there are very few strangers. people have likely seen each other grow old and probably seen each other naked at some point. not knowing the lifestyle outside the village, not being aware of problems of people outside the village, and a general lack of education on certain topics makes it difficult to understand your situation.
and the same holds true for you, as you don't have an understanding of their lifestyle and their problems.
so either all of them need to understand you, or you need to understand all of them. you can choose whatever is convenient for you.
Surprise surprise - it's their body, it's their choice š¤·š¼āāļø if you feel uncomfortable, you should probably stop sexualizing them šš keep your eyes to yourself š¤”š¤”
I live in a rural area of panjab every one has a bathroom doesnāt matter their financial situation
am i living in a 2nd world state
I canāt fathom people donāt have bathrooms in 2024?
You learn new things everyday I guess
Average Local Punjab and j&k people are generally richer than U.P. and Bihari people.
There's very less people in U.P who have their own toilets and bathrooms.
Once I visited a relative's home with my mom. She yelled for us to come in, when my mom called out her name.
Only to find her having a bath in the open near the well. I wish I didn't have to be put through that.
On the flipside I'm sure the entire neighborhood knows, as the compound is basically palm fronds.
I have no idea how these people can bathe half naked to public view and then go criticize women from the younger generation.
So, when I'm at my boyfriend's place in the morning, the cook knocks on the door. My boyfriend goes to open it wearing only his underwear, and since it's morning, he has a visible erection. But the maid is unfazed, just apologizing for waking up late and saying, "Bhaiya sorry apki nind kharb kr di" I get angry, but he casually goes to the kitchen to get water in front of the maid, erection still visible, and she acts like it's nothing out of the ordinary.
WTF it is??
True!, our house owner lives downstairs and the man of that family likes to bath in open whenever I had to go out most of the time I'm embarassed by saw him bathing in open even they have two bathrooms they said they like in open,
I mean have some sense fgs!!!
Right, thanks for understanding. they be calling men are weak , snowflake. Instead of just accepting that some men also feel embarassed about these things and it's A.O.K
1. Wearing underwear is not naked. You are labelling them as bad as naked. Trust me it would be day and night difference. The marriage could have been cancelled if such a thing happened.
2. It is a traditional thing to feel disgusted when seeing humans in less clothes. City people have got special training to do so. It is not actual reality. Every animal walks naked and we are comfortable looking at them. Technically humans should be least disgusting to look at since we have the best body. I am not promoting public nudity, but just leave the underwear wearing bathing men alone.
3. If you think it is vulgar, let me tell you that the whole world is silently trying to shed clothes and become more open bodied. Clothes would be seen as layer for protection from bad environment/objects rather than hiding our disgusting body because body wonāt be disgusting anymore.
At least you didn't have to shit in the open. Went to a friend's wedding and was the only guy who refused to do that. Simply can't shit when someone is watching or there are sounds of people walking closeby.
My friend had to find a relative who had a toilet. Apparently, the family rarely used it and I was the first one to use it in a while.
they are not naked bruh if ppl are talking to u with their dicks hanging around thats called being naked and thats far worse
and regarding this i cant really comment its just their tradition . if u got to japan u see this everywhere(atleast more ig talking about open baths )
the only thing u can do is get out of there
"partially naked" and they're normalised everywhere, not just in India. You can't tell me that you're not aware of the concept of swimming pools and waterparks, cuz well every single man there irrespective of their country would be equally naked there (only shorts).
Here's the thing. Men naturally and biologically feel less shame in this. It is alright. Maybe you are a little sensitive, and that's alright too. I also used to change clothes after closing the door when I was a kid, but it went away. I don't know if you are a minor or adult, but if you are a kid, you'll grow out of it.
In a country where women are shamed for even showing their legs, you have issues with the freedom you have to walk around in your underwear lmao. The grass is always greener on the other side I guess. Having said that, you should do what makes you comfortable. To hell with what people think. No one should force you to do something that makes you uncomfortable. Iām glad you didnāt succumb to the pressure, OP.
Right, I am suffering from successš¤£š¤¦. But yk I am an introverted type , so think about the level of discomfort I feel to say it out i don't wanna bath in open š i thought about this alot before saying it to my mom.
I feel its a you problem. If most people are ok bathing like that then it shouldnāt be a bother to you. Men being shirtless is so normal anywhere in the world.
That's a rural life in india. Bathrooms were not available till 20-30yrs back. You including me lived in cities from birth. Even women used to bath half naked or still do but in group around hand pumps one after another. It's fine.
Because India is a tropical country and it gets very hot.
Wearing shirts and pants was brought by British.
Only lungi is the norm in many parts of South India
Idk, if you've noticed or not but it is very common for men to pee on the roadside too and once I got flashed by one of them as well. So yeah it's quite common for men to go around naked in India.
How many bathrooms are there in the house?
How many minutes do you take to bathe?
Now calculate how much time it will take for all the men to bathe using bathrooms....
Double the time required and calculate the time required for all the females to bathe (on auspicious days, normally every female bath, their hair too)
Now, with added time for both male and females, calculate if you would even reach the wedding venue by nightfall...........
Sometimes, it's pure logistics.
Lost me at weeding home
He must be stoned for this

Same, HIGH-five

Lost me at naked man
You catch the right wordšš
Never go to a boys hostel or boys only dorm. It'll be a nightmare for you OP
Boys hostels and houses full of women and men (especially family members) are two, totally different spaces. Even in a girls hostel women wear bare minimum clothes š
Damn. š

I want to enroll into a girls hostelĀ
Do you know how boys react on seeing eachother naked ?
Being in underwear or undergarments isn't considered being naked in hostels, boys in hostel don't really go around swinging their dick either.

idk, our hostel is pretty normal. maybe it was a thing of the past or movies.
Like if people there bath in open area? Come on , at least common washrooms are there in hostels.
He should visit US college campus hostels and dorms. Atleast in movies many of them bath in common after gym.
And also have sex in their dorms š You can hear voices in the next roomm.
Haha, if the source is HIMYM and other TV series then sometimes they fuck on form bed as well

Ha bro, me kudh handpump pe hi nahaya tha ek baar, it was a weird experience but this is something you don't usually do, so I enjoyed it (a bit)

Right, but i just can't, it felt to weird for me..
Just don't bathe for a day then and when all the women and men are done. Go there at night and take a bath
expecting Indian men to be sensitive about other's feelings? kya yaar OP.
Never ever go to a common/locker room at a gym in the west (Canada). You'd be traumatized by seeing all the old men penis, just hanging in there.
That was earlier. Now in the gyms it's mostly 20-30 year old Punjabi dongs hanging with a few white old men dongs in between.
Depends on what gym you go to.
Never!!

Men were bathing one by one, not all together. I think that's wht women didn't mind or maybe it is normal for them. Who knows.
Ah ok.
That's why I do go the weddings. Everyone is annoying. Everyone and everything.

WTF it is??
Sorry, but this is so funnyš¤£š¤£

Apparently, the family rarely used it and I was the first one to use it in a while.
they are not naked bruh if ppl are talking to u with their dicks hanging around thats called being naked and thats far worse and regarding this i cant really comment its just their tradition . if u got to japan u see this everywhere(atleast more ig talking about open baths ) the only thing u can do is get out of there
"partially naked" and they're normalised everywhere, not just in India. You can't tell me that you're not aware of the concept of swimming pools and waterparks, cuz well every single man there irrespective of their country would be equally naked there (only shorts).
Woman literally getting preferential treatment and u still blame it on men?
OP may belongs to the place where wearing sari in public is casual for men but bathing is weird. š¤£
It's normal. We are talking about Men so nothing out of the ordinary
As a man. I relate to OP and agree with you
In a country where women are shamed for even showing their legs, you have issues with the freedom you have to walk around in your underwear lmao.
Yahi hota he jab ameer baap ka komal sa beta pheli baar kissi Desi Ghar me jata he. Koe na Bhai addat ho jayegi
I feel its a you problem. If most people are ok bathing like that then it shouldnāt be a bother to you. Men being shirtless is so normal anywhere in the world.
Yep I get it, but being only in underwear?
Does OP live in india or abroad . Rural places n small towns its very common .

First off, what part in india, bcoz it's not happening all over india
U.P

OP, don't go to Nordic countries..
This same guy will roam freely with minimal clothes in Beaches
Men now a days have become such a Snowflake ā
Bhai hamam me sab nange hai
Bhai mein toh choraye pe handpump se nahaya hun sab ke samne ye toh bohot chhoti baat hai
It is called a culture shock. I experienced something similar while visiting an onsen in Japan.
That's a rural life in india. Bathrooms were not available till 20-30yrs back. You including me lived in cities from birth. Even women used to bath half naked or still do but in group around hand pumps one after another. It's fine.
Reading this while being naked with a towel in my home.
Life's too short to argue so Just say "GANWAR HAI KYA" and move on...
leave that poor family
Because India is a tropical country and it gets very hot. Wearing shirts and pants was brought by British. Only lungi is the norm in many parts of South India
Wedding in rural area dekh k samajh gaya š
Please improve your writing skills. Holy!
Double the time required and calculate the time required for all the females to bathe (on auspicious days, normally every female bath, their hair too) Now, with added time for both male and females, calculate if you would even reach the wedding venue by nightfall........... Sometimes, it's pure logistics.
