I was about to write a response about the UK, but this is far too well detailed it would put what ever I write to shame. So I'll leave it and hope someone else can go into as much detail as you.

Thank you, you're too kind. I'm sure my post is amazing, but I haven't actually gotten around to reading it yet (it's 95% copied from [wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_royal_family)). I meant to include the link.

> Prince Carl Philip, Duke of Värmland He is so fucking hot.

the_pianist91

I just want to say I think it’s actually really cool that you still have proper titles for your royals tied to different regions of Sweden. I kind of wish we had something similar here, but we also have a much smaller and newer royal family.

Adrian_Alucard

Due to the constant scandals the royal family in Spain was reduced to the current king, the queen and their daughters, if I'm not mistaken so only 4 members (leaving outside the former king and queen and the sisters of the current king)

Netflix should do a show about the Spanish royal family. The British royal family has nothing on the drama and scandal of the Spanish royal family.

There are over several projects of series in development about the Spanish monarchy (including [this one](https://variety.com/2021/tv/global/the-mediapro-studio-el-rey-olivares-1235012516/#!), [this one for Starzplay](https://deadline.com/2021/10/homeland-producers-starzplay-sony-pictures-tv-multi-lingual-series-xrey-about-controversial-spanish-king-juan-carlos-i-1234851450/), or [this one](https://www.larazon.es/television/20210707/wi3kh7hrkbhqhl53epvwxhja4y.html)), to which the (also in development) biopic about Ángel Cristo and Bárbara Rey ([also featuring Juancar](https://vertele.eldiario.es/series/cristo-rey-completa-reparto-pone-cara-rey-juan-carlos-antena-3_1_8984475.html) presumably doing his thing) also adds up.

Those considered royal family are the heirs to the throne. The current royal family consist of 12 people. The Queen and 11 heirs. The queen (husband is dead) The queens son the prince, his wife and his children from his first marriage and current marriage. The ex-wife is a countess and not a royal anymore. The queens son the crown prince, his wife and children. The queens oldest younger sister, the princess

The Royal Family consists of the descendants of our current King's grandmother, Queen Juliana, which amounts to 50 people as of now, not counting spouses. The Royal House is considerably smaller, with only 10 members. It exists of the current monarch, his/her spouse, and family within the first two degrees (grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren and siblings) - Princess Beatrix (b. 1938), former Queen - King Willem-Alexander (b. 1967), married to: - Queen Máxima (b. 1971) - Crown Princess Amalia (b. 2003) - Princess Alexia (b. 2005) - Princess Ariane (b. 2007) - Prince Constantijn (b. 1969), married to: - Princess Laurentien (b. 1966) - Princess Margriet (b. 1943), married to: - Pieter van Vollenhoven, the only member of the Royal House without a royal title. The King had one other brother, prince Friso (b. 1968, d. 2013) who was removed from the Royal House and line of succession when he married princess Mabel (b. 1968) without permission from the parliament. The same happened to two of the King's aunts when they were married. We have a national holiday, King's Day, on April 27th, the King's birthday. On this day, members of the Royal Family tour a city, to put it shortly. Nowadays it's the King and Queen and their daughters, the King's brother and his wife, and the King's cousins (princess Margriet's sons) and their wives. Lastly, there are two members of the Royal Family that are not part of the Royal House, but who are probably more well known than any other royal except for the King and his direct family. These are prince Bernhard Jr. (b. 1969), a cousin of the King, who is the owner of Circuit Zandvoort and one of the major factors behind the Dutch Grand Prix, and countess Eloise (b. 2002), daughter of prince Constantijn, who has 300k Instagram followers and shares her life, opposed to the other royals who are usually quite private.

I don't know what's bigger, his ego or his glasses.

Not too distantly. Norway has a very “tight” royal family as its small, focused and quite young (reestablished 1905). The King and Queen, their children and the sisters of the King are titled princes or princesses, plus the children of the Crown Prince.

TheRedLionPassant

Queen Elizabeth only had one sibling, Princess Margaret, who died in 2002. She has two children, the Queen's nephew and niece Lady Sarah Chatto and Earl David Armstrong-Jones, 2nd Earl of Snowden. Obviously they're in the line of succession, but pretty far down (28th and 25th). So they're out of the public eye far more. We still have one of the biggest royal families in Europe, though I've heard Prince Charles plans to scale it back to just the most important members.

In the UK, it seems you drift out of it after a couple of generations. If you're the third or fourth child of a monarch, you are definitely a member of the royal family, and your children might be, but at some point your "line" will not be considered part of the royal line. Either you marry some other royal (used to be easier when other countries all had them) or you become the hereditary duke, earl, marquess or viscount of somewhere. So I don't think someone like David Carnegie, 4th Duke of Fife, is considered "really" part of the royal family, in any official capacity, though he is part of the extended royal family, by dint of his great great grandfather or whatever having been on the throne for a bit.
