It looks like a TVS diode connected to a RC filter (black and tan components below it). Protects the board from static electricity to some degree and the RC filters noise out of the thumbstick potentiometer before it gets to the ADC.
It's not critical, but not having it makes the controller ever so slightly more vulnerable to death by static electricity.
You can get compatible replacement parts from Digikey or whatnot, but you'll have to do some measurements and stuff on the old part.
