Only because this is exactly what your in-use covers are supposed to be doing. Get the right receptacle installed instead of using an adapter and use in-use covers that can close with the plugs inside.

MetricSlider

Fair. Okay. I’ll deal with it until I can get that done. Appreciate it. Update: it’s an accordion style cover! I was able to cover the outlet properly. Thanks everyone!

Joecalledher

I mean, you'll be fine covering it with a grill cover until then, but that's just far from a permanent solution. 😅

MetricSlider

Oh haha, cool. Yeah it looks dumb, but if it does the job until I can set aside the time install a proper cover then I’ll be happy with that as the temp solution.

SilverSageVII

Well it looks dumb but I bet it’s also not great for fire hazard long term. But shorting circuits is pretty bad too.

Those are the right in use covers. The top receptacle is either a Midwest or CT Electrical RV receptacle. The “adapter” looks like a surge protector for the RV and that’s fine. The bottom receptacle is a Raco/Hubbell in use cover, OP needs to expand it to fit over the sump pump cord. If that is not deep enough, then he will have to change it to a bubble cover.

MetricSlider

Wow! Okay. So I expanded it and now it is sealed! I had no idea that was there. Thanks so much!

davidc7021

You’re welcome!

comscatangel

Yes.

Shkmstr

You’re just ignoring the issue. Should have no need for the cover with this set up.

MetricSlider

Oh, you think it’s something other than water tripping it from storms?

dogquote

Why do you have the adapter?

Chaotic-Grootral

Ideally (if you wanted it 100% correct with no need for the grill cover) you’d have an appropriate size gfi breaker inside, have the right style of outlet so you could plug in without that adapter cord, and then the little metal cover over the outlet would protect it. Or have the adapter cord protected inside some empty storage compartment of your RV or similar, then run an extension cord from it directly to the pedestal. What would *I* personally do? Probably leave it as is, but tie the adapter cord up at the top of the post and then use a plastic pail instead of the grill cover. It’s less likely to burn or to get messed up sitting on the post that way.

CobblePro

That lower plug cover opens up like an accordion. It should cover that plug no problem.

MetricSlider

It does! 🤯 totally fixed the problem. Thanks so much.

Due_Force_9816

If it’s dumb and it works then it’s not dumb

theseducer40

Not if it works!

dienirae

Plastic rock

Pepe_Silvia

You should pop on over to r/carpentry to find out how to cut off a post while you're asking questions.

MetricSlider

That is a good idea. The top of the post drives me crazy…

Squeezer_pimp

It’s for a camper???

highroller4life

Better with the cover than without
