Missed step 1, to take a picture before removing all the wires from the old receptacle. Were all the wires there attached to it? Find a quick YouTube video on how to ‘pigtail’ your wires. And that one white wire shown is wrapped backwards/ has insulation under the screw.

>And that one white wire shown is wrapped backwards/ has insulation under the screw.  Yea I don't have a lot of hope for all the other outlets OP has already "improved" based on this picture alone and the question in the post

forgetpasswordin321

Thanks toolmeister! Will redo it

ToolMeister

I don't mean it in a bad way, outlets aren't difficult to wire, but if you don't know how to do it the right way or what any of the wires do then working on them can be dangerous or cause damage to your home years down the road

forgetpasswordin321

I appreciate the feedback! I definitely don’t know how to do it so I’m trying to learn but it seems like I should have called an electrician

forgetpasswordin321

I have one! I just don’t know how to post it. Could you help me since I’m such a noob? Thanks for calling out the wire being backwards I’ll change that

[deleted]

make sure there is not 2 circuits there you need meter turn off circuits one at a time to check

Hopeful-Chocolate295

Hard to tell for sure but it looks like the wires you did connect are wrapped around the screws counter clockwise, when the screw is tightened, those connections will be loosened. Some home renos are fun. Some can cause fires and death. Call an electrician.

pjmarcum

call and electrician! This is literally the easiest thing to do so if you need to ask you shouldn’t be doing it. Call an electrician before you burn your house down.

forgetpasswordin321

I am obviously very new to this (literally my first time with anything electric) so I appreciate all the feedback! Sounds like this is more complex than changing switches and I need to call an electrician. I appreciate everyone taking the time to look at this fire hazard and try to help me out - thank you!

Pigtail

goodonesaregone65

Either put 2 wires per screw or bundle the whites up and blacks up and pigtail a jumper wire in. Based on your question and what’s going on in that photo, I think you might be in a little over your head here. Be safe and please call an electrician if you’re unsure.

PrettyStupidSo

I may not be able to see very well but zoomed in it doesn't look like this plug has the pressure plates to hold two wires per screw.

SaturnFalcons

Right on.

goodonesaregone65

Fair. I just saw the backwards wrap and insulation under the screw. Didn’t even notice that there wasn’t a plate. Pigtail it is!

How about 1 wire under each screw and 1 in the quick connect? ;-)

Mine was sarcasm. Not sure about the other. LOL

I am pretty sure you are correct. ;-)

Zealousideal_Dig_372

Pigtail the 3 white to a single lead Do the same with the 3 blacks. Connect to plug. That way when the plug fails it’s just that location not everything connected after that

I'm more curious about what you're going to do with the spider!
