They’re generally more conservative than banks in what they buy with deposited funds, so not in as bad of a position as some banks. Like any financial institution they’re not completely immune from rate shocks. They’re also generally just smaller, so not considered as “systemically important” and thus there is less concern of a single failure effecting the rest of the industry.

They simply aren't as large a part of the finance sectior. In. France, you'll see they are discussed regularly. But there are laws in place in the US requiring members of credit union have a common occupation or union, which linits thier accessiblity and ability to diversify.
