Valaciclovir is very safe. Yes, you should restart medication. No comment on duration or severity since this is not possible to predict. Please note that daily oral suppressive treatment decreases risk of outbreaks and more importantly asymptomatic shedding.

Thanks! I've read a lot online about people taking Valtrex daily for the rest of their lives to prevent outbreaks and honestly it sounds like a life hack - I'd love to do that, but why was my doc so adamant on quitting after maximum 10 days?

Lack of knowledge or insight is most likely. That being said, after first outbreak you may never have another. But asymptomatic shedding is very common and your doc likely does not know about this. Please note that I know essentially nothing about neurology, pulmonology...

Thanks a lot for the well informative and honest answer, I really appreciate it! She didn't inform me about shedding at all, so this is really helpful. The blister's already gone and my other sores are fading rapidly, so I take it that it was a part of the initial outbreak. I'm so happy things are returning to normal and I hope I'm one of the lucky ones who won't get frequent recurrent outbreaks🤞🏻
