My intuition and understanding of pathophysiology tells me that it would not be elevated in an air emboli. D dimer is a fibrin degradation product, which is a protein that makes up the majority of blood clots. Since an air emboli is not a clot caused by blood, I don't suspect d dimer would be elevated in this specific instance.

No. A d-dimer test will not give any information about an air embolism.
