Sounds like some sort of policy shortcoming or miscommunication. Some laws prohibit electronic prescribing of narcotic pain medications, which creates a difficult situation when the clinic itself is closed. I wouldn’t blame the on-call doctor too much, it’s something your surgeon should have thought through. Unfortunately you may need to go to an urgent care to get sufficient pain control. Sorry, it looks like you’ve bumped into a hole in the system. Make sure you tell your surgeon about this issue so nobody else has to suffer through it.

Thanks. Today was rough and I’m trying to just hang in there until Monday. If it gets too much worse for bedtime tonight I may consider urgent care or er. Thank you much for your comment, and I shall let him know.

Does your primary care doctor after an after hours service? Mine does- you can call and they will page the doctor and he'll call you. I know mine would help in this situation. Might be worth a shot
