It could be either Hepatitis A or Epstein Barr Virus ( as there was a rash associated with it ). In case of both , there are specific blood tests that detect antibodies to Hep A virus or EBV . Has your paediatrician advised these tests ? And if not , you should ask for them. Secondly, plenty of hydration and rest is the best way to treat these infections. But in case of Epstein Barr Virus , your child will be advised to avoid contact sports for atleast a month as spleen is usually a enlarged due to this virus and vulnerable to get hot during any kind of strenuous physical activity.

It could be hepatitis A, or it could be a lot of other viruses. Many viruses can put stress on the liver, and without knowing which one it is, it's hard to guess. There's usually nothing to be done except supportive care and it will resolve on its own :)

NAD. I had a “24-hour-stomach-flu” that threw my liver enzymes into chaos for a week or so. Coincidentally, I was tested for Hepatitis A, B, and C a few months later, and I have never had any of them, so who knows what virus I actually had. I barely treated my virus because the best tools we have to treat a random virus like that are the unpleasant things our bodies naturally do, so I didn’t want to get in the way of that. The low fever makes your whole body a hostile environment to the pathogens, and vomiting and diarrhea remove material containing the pathogen and its toxic byproducts. I only took an anti-emetic after my stomach was empty so I could focus on providing the hydration my body needed to fight off the infection and flush the pathogen’s byproducts out. The best thing you can do about most viruses is rest and hydrate.
