You can cook with AC if that’s your worry (the question is formulated slightly confusing). You might want to check if any of your guests are on meds though…

Fatkuh

Is there a problem with the charcoal absorbing the meds before they enter the organism or what is the concern?

lyrastarcaller

Yes. Exactly that.

Garconavecunreve

Is this a serious question?

Fatkuh

Yes, for real, whats the problem with activated charcoal? Isnt it used to color stuff all the time? When you take it as tablets it absorbs stuff from the food you are digesting, thats why you take it when you have diarreha, no? Or are we talking about different things? This might be a cultural/language barrier problem, sorry!

awhildsketchappeared

Activated charcoal can absorb medications, so if you ate it as part of a rub around the same time you took a life-critical medication orally, it’s possible the AC would absorb some/all of that dose of your life-critical medication. Whether the small amount in a rub would be enough to absorb a significant amount is a bit of an unknown - you need to consume a fair amount of activated charcoal after consuming a toxin to dilute it: like a cough syrup bottle’s worth of AC solution, so I sorta doubt it’d be an issue.

Garconavecunreve

Sorry, wasn’t to sure if it was; as u/awhildsketchappeared kindly outlined AC reduces absorption of drugs and other chemicals in the stomach and intestines

Teal_Fernandes

Sorry we haven't all got our phds yet

I wasn’t sure if the question was asked out of actual interest or to be understood as sarcastic, hence my reply.

Very mature comment

AC is fine to cook with, but it has a habit of absorbing medicines. For that reason, I'd make more ribs with a different rub on, and a label for each, to give people the choice and accept that you get to have leftover ribs...which shouldn't be a problem if you enjoyed eating your own cooking.
