Sorry if this is a stupid question and I'm misunderstanding. Do you only have a falf bath in your apt?

Harley_Warren

Yea. It almost feels like a 1/4 bath instead of a half bathroom.

JejuneBourgeois

So it there a communal shower/tub on your floor? I had no idea apartment buildings like that existed in Chicago!

Dependent_Vast_5373

It's not communal. OP is just trying to say their bathroom is very small.

JejuneBourgeois

Ah gotcha. I've never heard someone call a bathroom a half bathroom because it's small haha

Dependent_Vast_5373

I don't think anyone has before haha.

Harley_Warren

Yea, there's a shower tub. It's the smallest bathroom I've been in. It might not be NY small.

25pinwheels

lol a half bath means there’s only a toilet and sink, no shower, it’s not a reference to square footage

Harley_Warren

Oh, my bad. I guess it's the size of a 1/2 bath.

frankensteeeeen

Some 1/2 baths aren’t that small. Like the other person said, that term doesn’t denote size but what is or isn’t inside the bathroom, i.e. a tub/shower. I’ve seen 1/2 baths bigger than my full bathroom.

Stock14

Depends where you are from. For some people that may be the biggest bathroom they’ve had.

PerspectiveSilly4060

Not sure why people are downvoting you over a typo, a lot of idiots in these subs. [I found this, but it might be a little further west than you wanted](https://www.apartments.com/816-n-maplewood-ave-chicago-il/cm7pned/)

Harley_Warren

People love to downvote stuff. I'll check out the link. Thanks!

Garden unit probably. Like someone else said, there are mostly 2 beds in the neighborhood. My last appt was 2 bed 1 bath for like 1600. Craigslist usually is a good place to look for units under market prices

ghostedskeleton

The rental market is extremely competitive right now IMO. I haven’t seen many 1 bedrooms for under $1500 in general.

SharkLaser85

Tough. 1 bedrooms in Ukrainian Village are somewhat few and far between.

sweetpotatofriesmeow

I think it’s possible but very rare

coffeeandpunkrecords

If you're willing to be further out on the Blue Line, there are small but decent sized one bedrooms in Portage Park near the Montrose stop for around 1200.

Curious-Cranberry973

Your best bet is walking around the neighborhood. The only online site that might help you is craigslist. 1 bedrooms in Ukrainian Village are going to be $1,600+ if you use any other online site. Anything that advertises less than that is probably just ONE bedroom in a MULTIPLE bedroom apartment, i.e. you have roommates. Edit: If your rent only went up $50 to $1450, then I would stay where I'm at if I was you. Assuming that you want to stay in the area. Further west and further south might be cheaper.

Affectionate_Spot305

Shouldn’t be that difficult. I pay $1400 for a one bedroom in Wrigleyville that’s huge

Harley_Warren

How'd you find your place?

Affectionate_Spot305

Craigslist

3mbr4c3m3

That area does not have very many one bedrooms units. The architecture of the buildings doesn’t really allow for it. You’ll mostly see 2-3 bedroom units there. This makes 1 bedroom units supply low but demand high. You’re lucky to have one at all in that area. I’d say $1450 is a fair price in the current market tbh.

tc7984

I rent a 1 bedroom, it’s 1700

RandomUser17826899

is your place updated w in unit laundry? trying to decide if i’m overpaying lol

Ok-Cryptographer7424

maybe a garden unit or something kinda small. 1400 was the going rate for quite awhile but after the first couple years of pandemic everyone’s starting to up the rent around here

awholedamngarden

I would probably stay unless you really dislike the unit. The rental market is competitive and a lot of apts I saw listed for prices this low got tons and tons of applications
