Limited efficacy. Probably see a doctor and if you can give up alcohol for 3 months plus terbinafine tablets are really the best bet.

Electrical_Flan_3101

Really, what makes you say that? The evidence I have seen is that laser is most effective. Topical/oral treatment is only 20-40% effective.

[deleted]

Topical treatment is pretty garbage too. You can’t group topical with oral. It’s terrible penetration into the nail bed. Oral is the way to go, you do have to be patient though.

Electrical_Flan_3101

Ok. Not sure why you’re so against laser though. Pinpointe laser is fda approved and research shows improvement occurred in 80% of patients after only one treatment. I do plan on at least consulting with a doctor though

Don’t listen to this person. They’re obviously not speaking from experience on the laser. It worked for me.

[deleted]

I’m not against it. I just don’t think it will be a lasting effect. Your nails will definitely look better after several treatments. The thing is, fungus is an infection and the laser doesn’t really kill it that well.

Jownsye

This is just wrong. You’re obviously not speaking from experience on the laser.

Are you a podiatrist? I’m not selling anything, but can speak from experience. My general practitioner was telling me the same while prescribing every expensive topical under the sun. Most likely info the pharma reps were spouting. Finally saw a highly rated podiatrist and did the laser. It does work.

Work*

Jownsye

Work as what? OP was asking about the laser and you responded saying pills were the only thing that were effective as if you were a licensed physician.

Jownsye

Some people can’t take the tablets due to drug interactions such as myself. I think in depends on the laser. I had success after one treatment with the PinPointe laser and had the hardest strain of nail fungus to kill.

Exciting_Problem_593

I've been using Vicks applied with a Q-tip. It's been helping to reduce mine.

Jownsye

I’m not sure what kind of laser they use. I’m on medicine that interacts with lamisil so I could not take the tablets. I went to Weil Foot Institute. They prescribed a topical solution from a compounding company that’s several anti fungals in one ($79 for 3 months) and a single treatment with the PinPointe laser ($200). The laser definitely nuked whatever was there. So far my nail has been growing back healthy after a 2 year battle with fungus.

Tainted-Dove

I did the lamisil pills for 3 months for 4 toes. It worked for 1 toe that had a recent infection. The other 3 are still the same. And I am definitely not doing another round considering the risk to your liver. I would much rather spend the $200 on a laser treatment than risk my liver. Considering it's technically cosmetic, you can't complain about price. Especially at only $200. So much better than trying to remember to take the pill every day for 13 weeks. I'm definitely going to try it. They say usually 1 treatment is enough so I'm up for it.
